Years ago I lost about $1000 in an internet scam when someone wanted to use a USPS money order. It was fake, but I'm smarter now and it's a serious burr under my saddle when I find someone trying to do this type of thing to others.
The other day just looking around on craigslist and came upon a pick-up truck deal that seemed too good to be true. Obviously I believed it was a scam but thought what the heck I'll see what's up. So I sent an email saying I wanted to come to see it. So this person contacts me via text asking for an email to send more information. I have an email I use for spam and other crap so I give it to them. They get back to me and say that the truck is in an eBay holding facility in Billings, MT and was part of a divorce settlement. LOL
I look up the map and find Billings, where I've never been and there's a local town, near Billings, called Lockwood. I told them that I had a cousin there and they could come by and see the truck. Thinking this would be the end of it I was surprised when they contacted me this morning. They're asking for an address, phone number, and name and the truck is still available.
I tried to notify craigslist that there was a scam, but you can't report it unless you have a listing number, which has been removed. So they are no help. I've tried looking online on how to report them, but can't find anything of value.
Does anyone have any idea on how to get these people caught? A crime hasn't occurred to me and they probably have scammed others, but reporting it to the local police would probably do nothing. Who can I report this to that would actually do something about these scumbags?
Anybody have any ideas?
