Kind of depends on how the rules are applied. Runt was Rundgren's debut solo album. However, before venturing out as a soloist he formed a band called Nazz. Their debut album was Nazz, and their second album was Nazz Nazz. Rundgren and Carson Van Osten (the other founder of Nazz) left the band after the 2nd album. The band replaced them, and released one more album, Nazz III, which included a lot of songs written by Rundgren but sang by one of the early members of the band.

The debut album for Nazz looked like this:

The Runt album, featured not one, but TWO sons of Soupy Sales also, in the studio with Todd. The opening track on Runt is brilliant, a three part opus dedicated to Laura Nyro.

From the alt-country side:
Uncle Tupelo - No Depression
Son Volt - Trace
Whiskeytown - Faithless Street
Nadine - Downtown, Saturday
Hazeldine - How Bees Fly
Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot
Nice call on Trace. Outstanding album. Too bad they went downhill after the second album. Kind of an opposite course as Wilco.

I'm going to agree heartily with the aforementioned Boston "Boston," Steely Dan "Can't Buy A Thrill" and The Knack "Get The Knack."

But let's not forget that Christian Rock group Faith + 1 whose debut album went myrrh. They're shown taking the album cover photo here.

The one son of Soupy was a member of Tin Machine as well I believe. A Bowie driven project that was certainly not received well commercially.

REM Mermor, they railed that but I also think Beth Orrton Trailer Park says so much more to me about my life.

But they were freaking AWESOME live in concert. I don't give two shits about what Rolling Stone thinks. Frankly, I know more about the world of popular music than they do anyway. They know only what they think is hip.
