OT. New to Netflixs and Prime. Need some recommendations

I have a Samsung Smart TV. Has anyone ever had issues with their Disney app, and the App Store app, not launching on their Samsung Smart TV? For example, on certain days I will be able to launch the Disney app and the App Store app on my Smart TV with no issues. On other days, the Disney app and the App Store app will not launch, as if those app buttons are dead apps/links on the Smart TV hub. Because of this issue, I will not be able to watch the Disney app for a full day, or two days, or three days. And then miraculously, the Disney app and the App Store app will start working again. The other apps, such as Verizon Fios, Netflix, and Amazon Prime all work fine with no issues at all. I have removed the Disney App button and redownloaded the Disney App button, but the problem persists. Does anyone know how to fix this so that I am able to always access the Disney app button and the App Store app button?
Get a Roku Ultra for roughly $99 at Best Buy. It will solve the problem with Hulu (or whoever your ISP is) not supporting your Samsung smart tv. I have a Samsung smart tv as well, and Hulu no longer supports it, so I bought the Roku Ultra and no longer have any problems. Plus, it is much easier to navigate between Hulu, Netflix, Prime, Starz, etc. with the Roku stick. The best $99 I ever spent.

Edit: LOL, I just realized this thread has been around forever, and I already had posted some time ago about the Roku Ultra. Sorry. My bad.

Jim, you had recommended Straight Man a year or two ago (maybe more) and based on that I checked it out - LOVED IT! I'm not sure if I ever thanked you but, if not, thank you. BTW, my middle son teaches Philosophy  at a small college in Western Pa so I can imagine that his day-to-day is similar to what Russo described.
You an LSD guy?
He probaly is. Sampling of Jim's writing.....

Inverse Kepler equationEdit
The inverse Kepler equation is the solution of Kepler's equation for all real values of {\displaystyle e}

Black Mirror is a bit scifi, but it proposes how certain technologies can destroy our society.

If you are a true crime fan:
Abducted: taken in plain sight; these parents were some of the worst decision makers on the planet
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

I would add BBC/Starz show "The Missing" to this list if you like above. As a parent, completely riveting but each episode will rip your guts out. My wife could not make it past first episode as too heartbreaking. Season 2 was excellent as well.

Figured I'd bump this after finding another new Netflix show. FORMULA 1 Drive to Survive. 2 seasons now available. Great inside look into the most expensive racing in the world.

"Dark" on Netflix is very good. Sort of a German Stranger Things meets Back to the Future (without the comedy). Very well done.

Looks like season three is out. Gonna start watching tonight.

Netflix has a documentary out about the college admissions cheating scandal. It’s excellent and really gives you an inside look into what the wealthy do to try to get their kids into the top tier schools.

I saw that listed. Thanks for the review. The other one that I thought looked interesting was the one about Pirates.
Also was pretty impressed with Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The opening flight sequence is really well done.

Yes, FAWS seems like it will be a little more straightforward than WandaVision. It will be a good palate cleanser before Loki arrives next.

The wife and I watched the College Admission Scandal documentary. It was well done, and I thought it was interesting about how they presented Stanford. The sailing coach was charged with accepting money, which went to support the sailing program. The school got to keep the money while he was fired and his reputation in shreds.

Also, the Murder Among the Mormons documentary seems interesting. I’ll probably watch that this week. The Lost Pirate Empire docuseries is good, although not for kids. A little more sex and nudity than I was expecting.

A few shows that we’ve recently finished that I recommend: The Servant (Apple+), Ted Lasso (Apple+), Imposters (Netflix).

I ended up really liking Wanda Vision but it took a while. Yea looking forward to Loki.
Not sure when this drops but the trailer for the new Idris Elba movie called Concrete Cowboys looks pretty good...

I guess I qualify as a Luddite when it comes to entertainment.

For years I have seen all types of posts about shows that I could not access so I am assuming that there are some media experts on this site. Hopefully, I can get some ideas on shows/series.

I do have HBO. My tastes range from Sopranos, The Wire, True Blood, Vinyl, The Deuce to The Flight of the Concords and Larry David. I am not a big fan of sci fi.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Lot of good ones on here. For Prime, I'll throw in Red Oaks- set at a NJ country club in the 80s.

I just got done binge watching seasons 1-5 of Peaky Blinders and I loved it Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy are absolutely outstanding in it. Gonna have to wait another year for season 6 however.
We are on season 4. About half way thru season 3 on a recommendation we turned on the sub titles, just makes it better

I like Imposters as well. One of the back stories is, the girl is from Pottsville, pa!!

Ah, I have spent my share of time in Dewey Beach, not enough. The one fish I have caught in my life was taken at Silver Lake from the dock at the bridge into Rehoboth.

I’m glad you liked it. I can feel Russo’s authenticity in his books. Yes, hilarious.

I never read through these long threads. Usually just look at the first page and then skip to next to last page.
I see this recommendation for Straight Man. Russo is one of my favorite authors; I'd love to see the movie. Go to Netflix and amazon, search for straight man and all I find is a bunch of gay porn.
Grrrr.....

Finally realize that yinz were talking about the book!

In a streaming thread

Grr...

Worst thing is that gay porn films are now coming up on my "movies you'd like"

lol, wow, epic fail on my part. Damn. Well, sorry

I just watched season 3 and LOVE the show. I knew nothing about F1 other than the names of a few older drivers...Schumacher, etc. before watching, but I can't get enough of it now. Fascinating dynamics between friends and fierce competitors. The videography is amazing. Great story lines. Lewis Hamilton is like the Tom Brady of the sport. I told my daughter I'm going to start following a driver. I selected Lando Norris, just because he has a cool name.

Just started watching this weekend. I don't even watch Formula 1 and I think this is a great series. Just started Season 3.

I am binging F1 it right now - just started season 2 and it is really good - all the behind the scenes stuff is excellent as is the racing scenes. Tons of drama and now I know how to say f@ck in many other languages.

I finished season 3 a couple nights ago. I thought it was fantastic. All the negativity from Red Bull about Pierre Gasly. Then he wins a race in a lower tier car. And they still don't really give him any credit.

The Ferrari struggles, Vettel announcing his new team the night before some big Ferrari thing.

Haas firing both drivers late in the season and signing Mick Shumacher and Nikita Mazepin for 2021.

The Racing Point car design controversy.

Perez driving from last place to win in Sakhir.

Romain Grosjean's crash in Bahrain. I remember seeing that all over the news the day it happened. Seeing the Netflix version where they edited the video to make it feel like it took some much longer to get him out of the car then it did in reality. And all the comments from the other drivers and pit crews just hoping he gets out of the car but thinking the worst.

And many more bits of drama. That series has gotten me more interested in F1. I used to find it boring that the same cars win all the time. Now that I know other things to follow (podiums are huge, finishing in the top ten and getting points is big for the lower tier teams, Constructor standings, etc.) it's far more interesting watching the field than the leaders.

Lando Norris? Two great names smashed together (Lando Calrissian and Chuck Norris). I haven't really picked a driver or even a team. I usually root against a team like Mercedes who keeps winning everything. But I like both of their drivers, so it's tough to root against them. But usually I just root for someone else to pull the upset. Doesn't matter who it is or which team he's with.

All good stuff. I think I like it best when the underdogs do well, like a Haas driver getting a podium or just the thrill they get from coming in 6th place is pretty cool. I really sort of hate the Mercedes team though. Kinda like the current NE Patriots.

I was also really fascinated with the Racing Point brake controversy. There are some really bizarre rules about what you can and can't copy though. I can understand the confusion. I'm not sure if I like that team or not. I see the principle owner as a Jerry Jones kind of guy. Billionaire buys his way into a team, then brings his son on as a driver. Maybe I am reading him wrong, but he just bothers me.

The Grosjean crash was really scary. I did not know about it before I watched. When I saw the crash, I thought for sure he was dead. Really a miracle.

I have not seen season 1 and 2, so I started watching from the beginning last night. Suffice it to say, I am hooked.

The one thing Netflix didn't really point out was how the halo saved his life. The front half of the car, along with the driver, went THROUGH the guardrail. Between the sections. Without that technology, he would be dead.

It also played a critical role in protecting Romain Grosjean at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix where, after hitting Daniil Kvyat's car, he crashed into the barriers head-on. The car split the crash barrier, allowing the car to slip through in between and splitting off the back of the car from the safety cell. The halo hit the upper section of the barrier, protecting Grosjean's head from the impact. In a similar accident at the 1974 United States Grand Prix, driver Helmuth Koinigg was decapitated. Despite initial concern over drivers' ability to evacuate quickly being impaired by the halo, Grosjean was able to climb out almost immediately, which was critical as the car started burning instantly. He emerged from the flames, with burns on his hands and ankles, and non-life threatening injuries.[19] "I wasn't for the halo some years ago, but I think it's the greatest thing that we've brought to Formula 1, and without it I wouldn't be able to speak with you today," Grosjean said from his hospital bed afterward.

I saw a commercial for season 3 of Jack Ryan but they only said "coming" on Amazon Prime. Anybody hear a release date? It may have just been a teaser to get people to sign up for Prime but I am hoping it comes out sooner rather than later.

August 17th is the last thing I saw.
Also the Idris Elba cowboy in Philly movie drops on Netflix on Friday. Trailer looks pretty interesting.
the final half of Lucifer drops in August.

Also the John Kelly character of Clancy's in Without Remorse drops on April 30th.
The trailer looks good. I've never read any of the books with that character so I don't know much about him.

I’m re-watching Better Call Saul as I strip the wallpaper. There are so many little things you forget, such as Jimmy getting sick at the restaurant as his date broke Alaskan king crab legs, following his dropping off the two skateboarders at the hospital after their unfortunate encounter with Tuco.

Do you mean John Clark? Or is it some other character? A show about John Clark could be really good if done right.
