Abby Detering, a 6'1" Soph left handed setter, has transferred from Florida to PennState. Not sure why. Goes from a scholarship player at UF to, I assume, a non-scholarship player at PennState. We now have 4 setters on the roster I believe. Maybe someone is looking to transfer and it frees up a scholarship. Has anyone seen her play at UF? Dig Nittany Volleyball says they will have more info today.

Here ya go....now, does anyone know if she's expected to compete for the starting job when she arrives? We did pretty well the last time we had a left handed setter...

Here's her profile coming out of high school in Cleveland:

A 6-foot-1 setter from Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, Ohio… An early enrollee at the University of Florida who joined the Gators in January… A lefty with an offensive mindset… Set Academy Volleyball Cleveland club squad to runner-up finishes at both the AAU and USAV National Championships last club season… The 2014 Ohio High School Female Athlete of the Year… The 2013-14 Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year… Ran a 5-1 offense at AVC and ran a 6-2 offense at Lake Catholic High School… In her senior campaign, Detering accumulated 309 assists, 285 kills, 173 digs and 31 service aces while leading Lake Catholic to the Division II regional semifinal November 1… As a freshman at Lake Catholic in 2010, helped lead the Cougars to the Ohio Division II State Championship game, picking up MVP honors… No. 52 on PrepVolleyball’s Senior Aces and honored by the site on their Top 50 Juniors and Soph 79 lists… Played for the USA Select A2 team in 2011 and was named to the USA Nationals All-Tournament Team in 2012 & 2013… A three-time Ohio High School All-State selection 2011, 2012 & 2013, while also picking up AAU All-America honors in 2011, 2012 & 2013.

Did not want to post a picture because this one exceeds the very high standards of this board. Go to the website noted in the post for confirmation.

The rich get richer. Nice pick up by Russ. Does she need to sit out a year? Looks like she'll have two years to play.

No. Volleyball transfers do not have to sit out a year.

Not true. Russ refused to allow Yanz (sp) to play without setting out a year at Nebraska. Not a criticism, just a fact.

They still don't HAVE TO sit out a year. It's not automatic like in some sports, Only if they are not granted a release.

That was my point, another case is Brianna Holman a transfer from LSU to Nebraska she had to sit a year. It is still the decision of the coach of the departing team to allow an uncontested transfer. I was replying to a post that seemed to indicate that an uncontested transfer was automatic in collegiate Olympic sports.

I need to start attending more W Volleyball games

Girls in my sig pic are Minnesota Women's Volleyball Players from L to R: Alyssa Goehner, Paige Tapp, Hannah Tapp....

How about a movie?

Assuming that since she is from Cleveland it is to be closer to home...?

Detering appeared to be the starting setter at Florida, with the graduation of Dagostino.

Dagostino started 114 sets in 2015, while Detering appeared in 89 sets. No other Florida setter received significant playing time.

It's a bit of a mystery why she would leave Florida and come to Penn State, where she will have to compete with a boatload of setters.
