PA HS Wrestling thread

Dekraker is very good. Should medal both years if he stays at Faith (he is a soph now).
No wonder why I didn’t hear of him. Virginia and then to Blair, now to Faith? Singers from Connecticut and Efferdian was from Malvern prep. Were Weidemoyer and Waters always from Pennsylvania before going to FCA?

Effendian is from Neshaminy.

Weidemoyer is also from Bucks County. IIRC he would've attended Pennridge.

IDK what town/school district Waters is from, but he trained at the Malvern youth club before attending FCA.

how is that deemed ok by the PIAA? Then Nick Kunstek and Anthony Muteralli is wasn’t. Or is that why he is sitting out a season? Does that get you over the rule?

How does this make sense? Lose an entire season including the postseason, in order to not lose the postseason? Huh?

Agreed on Kunstek and especially Mutarelli as it appears he attended Council Rock South last spring. Yeah, the rule is known. And it's stupid on stilts.

He was automatically ineligible for postseason at FCA because he transferred during 10th grade. If he had stayed at North he would have been eligible for postseason which would have been a separate shitshow. If a guy from virginia via NJ was allowed to wrestle for CRN while Mutarelli who never moved wasn’t eligible for CRS people would have been very upset. I don’t know why he is sitting out the regular season because he would be allowed to compete in ETR, Beast, Ironman, etc…. but he has still been wrestling in colleges opens and beating division 1 guys at 133

I like the PIAA and agree they should be enforced but they seem grey. They seem to hammer down on some and let some slip by. That is my only complaint. Make them black and white, follow with integrity and don’t make any exceptions

Or, get rid of the rule entirely. Transfers allowable except where athletes or families are paid for it, in which case the coaches get a multi-year NCAA-style show cause penalty.

PIAA would rather chase football players to IMG and wrestlers to Blair, than let them attend school in the next town over. PIAA, integrity? Good one!

The current rule was supposed to be exception-free but here we are again. Why keep putting our hands on the stove and expect to not get burned?

Can someone in the know explain what happened with Bishop McCort v. Westmont Hilltop. All thirteen weights were forfeits? WTF shortest match in history.

It’s safe to say just about every team this weekend has a wrestler or two who moved in. In the AA field, Reynolds and Burrell have open enrollment.
Make a private school, AA and AAA dual championship. Then make Pa all one bracket for the individual. Could you imagine the complaining and crying then. I like the California and NJ template.

Im no Reynolds fan but they are no different than Sharon, Greenville, Franklin, Oil City, Hickory, FLB, Saegertown,Mercer, Harborcreek, etc etc.

What determines "open enrollment" in your mind?

Mcort has peaks (super stars) and valleys (serious holes). WR is solid the whole way through.
Price of admission will be WR vs Mcort 132-152.
I'm going to have to ask @BrockBronson to refrain from making predictions involving PSU or any other of my favorite teams in the future.

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t know if I ever witnessed a team in pa which could have beaten them AA or AAA. Just to think they will be better next year and the year after. They will be a blast watch. I got to sit by some of them last year at Hershey. They seemed like nice people and know their team is a one in a lifetime team
Northampton in their heyday had a really deep team . I think the one team had maybe 4-5 division 1 kids. They had 4 State champs in 2003 and that wasn't there best overall team. They were solid at every weight.

Didn’t see that one coming. WR is a very good team. I feel they made some poor coaching moves. FTL is even without two tough kids in the middle. Kudos to them and best of luck. Hope then knock off McCruit and Faith. Little Milheim losses back to back weekends just doesn’t happen much. They will bounce back in the consy bracket

Open enrollment means you can go to the school district if you live outside the school boundaries. You pay the school tax. If you know me, you know my view on private vs public. There should be three divisions. But Reynolds, Burrell and other wrestling power houses have open enrollment. Our Gary Steen went to Reynolds and never lived in their district. S

Buddy, I can rattle off COUNTLESS athletes who live in one school district and attend a neighboring school.
I am well aware of the Steen situation, my son wrestled with Bad karma/RR under Mark for a couple years.

Reynolds pulls MANY guys from neighboring schools:
Matthews bros --Mercer
Steen-Hickory
Gill -Hickory

You call it what you want, I call it "using uncle Pete's address"
It doesn't make it "open enrollment", every school has kids doing this!!

I have no idea what transpires at Burrell.

Stein just took out Melvin Miller for Faith Christian, I don't think McCort is going to win this.

Easton - Beca should be good.
They've split this year . BECA bumped everyone up from 127 last week. Easton might try to match up a little different today.

Becahi wins 33-24

Dillard beat Salamone 1-0 and that was the biggest swing match of the dual.

Kelly beat Campbell at 127, then Fanelli weighed in at 133 and majored. But Becahi got falls from Frinzi and McFillin, a major from Scanlan, and then forfeit to Rath with the need to sweep 172 and up with bonus. Becahi forfeit to Geiger at 172 and sent everybody up to get DeLuise on Linegar at 216 and won

It's time for Faith Academy to move up to AAA.
They would of still won AAA easily this year.
Faith has been tight lipped about whether they will bump. Rumor at Giant Center was that McCort rescinded there request to bump up. No idea whether it's true, but a big change in the landscape if it is.

Congrats to CM. What a battle for third and way to battle back. Becca, flexes again and wins another title.

Faith academy is honestly the best PIAA team I ever witnessed. They won have won AAA Easily too. Will they go to AAA next year? Or be forced too with winning the last two titles. Either way they could be top three teams in the country next season. They smoked Mcort and won all the close matches. They set the AA scoring record this year and potential to place 10-11 wrestlers.

Congrats to Biff for his 250th win as a head coach. He has done wonders for this team. Great coach
