Nice showing by the local guy Murin. Wonder if there's any interest from PSU. I see Iowa is recruiting him and since he took a visit there, the Iowa fans are now at full attention.
Because they need 15 guys at 125 and 133. I don't get what in the world they are going to do with all these little guys. The whole "they will grow into" argument is getting a bit stretched with their numbers.
There's a lot to unpack out of this ... let's start by remembering it's not yet July 1. By definition Murin's trip was an unofficial. If you're Brands, and a PA state champ/#6 PA recruit/top 50 overall national recruit (maybe higher than that) calls to say he wants to visit at his own cost, are you really gonna tell him to not bother?Because they need 15 guys at 125 and 133. Somebody's gonna get one heckuva wrestler in Travis Stefanik.Tough couple of days for Iowa recruit Kaleb Young. 2 losses to two very good wrestlers. Nice showing by the local guy Murin. Poster in another thread, and I don't know what to take from that comment or even if anything should be taken from it. That poster has said some things that were true, but I'm wary of his negative statements, some have not been true or were gratuitous.I want his teammate Slammin Sammy Sasso, sad to read OP mentioned off the mat issues, hope that's not true.

Also, "off-the-mat issues" is so vague as to be meaningless -- probably would've been better if he hadn't gone there. Could've just as easily said coaches "are happy with who we have" or "have other priorities" or something like that -- which would be true and not open up possible negative speculation on a teenager.
All that said: I'm with you on Sasso.

This guy and this OP said nothing about Sammy.
Dunk was just making it clear that he was not the one to insinuate that there are off the mat concerns with Sasso. I'll admit that I thought he did until I looked into it closer. Your post hung all that on Dunkej and not Ames who actually brought it up. Dunkej was just clearing that up is all.I live here in the Lehigh Valley and attend districts every year, along with 5-10 duals when involving Northampton, Parkland, Easton, Nazo, Becahi and Never heard anything negative about Sammy for what's it's worth and talk with pretty involved guys that know a lot more than myself.

"They will grow into": Murin was at 126 this past year. It's entirely reasonable for him to go 132 this year, then grow into 141 after a year in a college weight room. I've heard he might go 141 this year, which makes college 149 reasonable -- in which case he would shirt during Sorensen's SR year.
The other funny thing about this: this is the same argument Iowa fans use about PSU's middleweight recruiting -- what is Cael gonna do with Nolf and Cenzo and Manville and Hall and the Lees and etc.? And there's no way Cael can possibly go after Carr or (pick another middleweight) ... And yet here we are. Nice problem to have if you're the coaches.
A lot more folks project Nick Lee 149 and Teasdale 141 than vice-versa.That's a good example of Iowa reasoning. Manville could be the odd man out, but there isn't a lot of overlap there. 157, 165 and 174 guys currently. Manville I can't figure out. Is he a 149? And when does he come in? He could slot in when Zain vacates and sit for one year if he redshirts or not at all if he does grey and red. If so, you have Lee at 141, Manville, etc. There is no overlap until Joe Lee comes in Nolf's senior year and Cenzo's junior year, when Joe Lee would redshirt anyway.
OTOH, Iowa is bringing in a guy that wrestled 120 this year, three guys who wrestled 120 this year next year and a guy that wrestled 113 this year the following year. How would you add a guy that wrestled 126 this year to that group? That would be six guys who wrestled 126 or below this season - six guys who wrestled at or below the lowest college weight. It's not as bad as having that many 285s, but it's not good. Iowa has already predicted Teasdale will be their 149 down the line, so I guess they would slot in Murin at 157?
I wouldn't mind DeSanto as a recruit at all. But Fix is the guy I'd love to see in blue and white.
I saw what the OP said over there, have heard stuff and know stuff and it's always a difficult thing to address. May as well elaborate since it's not the first time I've read or heard this and "leave it at that" statements can lead to a lot of wild speculation. I would say that El Jefe has my view on the whole thing here - not a huge deal, probably better left unsaid. Bottom line most young kids make stupid decisions even if relatively harmless in the scheme of things - including the majority of high level wrestling recruits many of which are very successful in high school. Of course, depending on your age you can have a whole different view on things (HEY - GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!). We also have a thing going on with the perception of a lot of our recruits - especially with a lot of our boosters. Squeaky clean, David Taylor types, super students, God fearing, extremely focused and mature. Kind of like Cael. I think that's a great thing, but I'm also quite aware that not all of our kids are in that mold. And let's face it that can be an extremely rare thing to be bundled up in a 17 year old wrestler.
My take on it is that the recruit in question doesn't fit that mold or at least doesn't at this point in time. Hey, either does another recruit that I'm very close to or the vast majority that I know. But the recruit in question works his ass off and competes all over the place, so in all likelihood by the time he gets older it is likely that this whole thing is moot. If wrestling coaches started crossing off kids who make typical teenage stupid decisions, the list of available wrestlers for scholarships would be microscopic. Of course, when you are the #1 recruiting team in the country, you have the luxury to do so.
Max Murin is very very good !!!! CAEL NEEDS TO PUT A FULL COURT PRESS ON HIM SO WE DO NOT LOSE HIM !!!! I HAVE WATCHED HIM SINCE HE WAS VERY YOUNG....LOVES THE SPORT AND WORKS VERY HARD !!!! HE IS GOING TO BE A GREAT ONE....I STILL WANT DAVID CARR MORE THEN ANYONE THOUGH !!!!Tough couple of days for Iowa recruit Kaleb Young. 2 losses to two very good wrestlers. Should Cael lose Nick and Joe Lee for Murin? Because right now it looks like he'll be at the same weight as them.Max Murin is very very good !!!! Plus Spyker is like a drunk sailor in a whorehouse with Cael's scholarship money. We'd need to double the weight classes and at least quadruple the scholarship limit.Exactly, Spyker Loves everyone. Are we adding 2 weight classes or what?

Hey, I never said Spyker was chasing any ugly ones!Drunk sailors in a whorehouse are now offended.
Yeah David Taylor went 113 as a junior in high school, Zac Thomusseit of Pitt was a 103 as a high school frosh and ended up AAing at heavyweight in college. You just never know. It's true that Iowa is recruiting a number of guys at the same current weight, and it's also static thinking in a dynamic situation. Their current weights matter little. Just ask SR 113 lb Jordan Conaway or SR 130 David Taylor.

And where did I give any sort of indication it was a sure thing? Is it my weakness in thinking or your weakness in reading comprehension? There are many more exceptions as you call them than the ones I listed. To me, a bunch of high school sophomore or junior 120's turning into collegiate 149's 3 or 4 years later isn't an "exception" when all you need is one out of four to grow like that. They have a bunch of kids at a similar weight, it isn't all that crazy or unusual if one grows into a collegiate 49 is all I'm saying which is all Iowa would need to space their log jam out. Renteria for one seems like he is a longer lankier type where it wouldn't be much of an outlier to see him be able to fill out to 141 or 149 without to much of a problem. The weakness in thinking rears its head again. These guys are relevant because they are exceptions. They also jumped multiple weight classes *during* high school. Guys that stay at basically the same weight during high school and are not tall for their weight class are entirely different stories. Teasdale will definitely be at 149? How do you think his lack of length will serve him there?
Thinking you are going to get short 120s to fill the first half of your lineup is foolish, imo. You have a long shot of being right, but it's a long shot. Talking about it like it's a sure thing indicates you are not thinking clearly.
Thank you captain obvious.Every wrestler who wrestles at 113 and 120, is not "like David Taylor" in their growth.

Good post. I sure would like to have Cael's problems 157-184. Matter has been obsessed on our boards about our stable of 125-149. Like I have said about PSU's ability to get talent, sometimes kids just want to go to
Iowa...talent and money be damned.
If one or two of them does grow, that would clear up a log jam at the lower weights but I could easily see it creating another. Some project Carter Happel a 149 in college. Kemmerer fits in there somewhere as well. What if they get Murin. He too sees himself as a 149 in college. No doubt the Brands will need to be very creativeThey have a bunch of kids at a similar weight, it isn't all that crazy or unusual if one grows into a collegiate 49 is all I'm saying which is all Iowa would need to space their log jam out.
I sure am glad I don't obsess about weight and heights of high school kids. People would start calling me a lunatic! Especially kids that are committed to other schools. Creepy
Wrestling fans....we're a funny breed. We will talk about anything and everything wrestling related..especially this time of year. You'll have to try to dig deep and forgive us. And I'm sure I speak for the rest of us here when I thank you for helping us PSU fans figure out what to discuss on our own board. We didn't even know what wrestling was until Cael strolled into town. "Rookie" mistakes...I sure am glad I don't obsess about weight and heights of high school kids. A simple "you're welcome" would suffice. Lol.Not even going to respond to that..
Off topic a bit.. Happy Father's day to all the wrestling Dads out there! Hope you have a great day with your kids!
