Paul Suhey

Bison:

don't come here and lecture us. bottom line is this is karma for the way PAUL SUHEY (the ass hat who was on the BoT) acted, not us.

the people you (and Suhey Jr) should be mad at are the Board of Mistrustees who continue to hold our beloved University hostage, and did their best to utterly destroy decades of Success With Honor.

but you know who should have clarified the issue? YOUR FRIEND. not hide behind the chapter President.

If Suhey Sr. 'fessed up, and actually suffered for what he did, then I think folks would be more sympathetic about dragging his son into this. But dad Suhey, one of the more despicable cowards of the entire mess, has not spoken publicly about any of this, other than to defend his actions.

Until justice is served, the whole family is going to be dragged down. Suhey Sr. has the ability to free them all, but refuses to do so.

the most significant thing I learned during my time at Penn State, from a Marine Colonel who served in Vietnam, was that the 6 most important words in the English language are:

I ADMIT I MADE A MISTAKE

until that happens from the likes of Suhey, who whined like a little kid when he got booted from the BoT, then I have little sympathy for anyone.

Likewise we all have the ability to distinguish between the father and the son as evidenced by the dichotomy of opinions regarding Joe and Jay.

It seems that some have simply chosen to not make the distinction in this instance.

I didn't pay too much attention to this when it was occurring last week, but after catching up now it seems that young Mr. Suhey did learn an important lesson this weekend: for some of his fellow Penn State fans and alumni, the son is damned to bear the sins of his father.

Your point is well taken, but from folks who are members of the Houston PSAA Chapter, how many protested or demanded the event be cancelled? Maybe the OP can chime in. Just curious though my guess is few, if any from the chapter, really cared that much.
Nobody (as far as I know) really cared that much. We were all there to have a good time and watch a young Penn State team take on the defending national champs. The place was packed (I would guess around 60) and a group of what seemed to be former Blue Band members were there playing the fight song. Other than the result, it was fun.

I disagree. As far as I know, Matt & Larry never said a word against Paterno and never criticized our "culture" so I don't have anything against them.
My beef is specifically with Paul Sr, and if Paul Jr wants to promote his dad's company, then I have a beef with him, too.

Matt Suhey on November 12, 2011:
“He has been nothing but extraordinary for me and our family and he has nothing but my support,’’ said Suhey.

The father has the ability to set the record straight. He's simply too cowardly to do so. Seems like this is a proxy war for Suhey.

FFS. HE WAS GOING TO BE THERE TO REPRESENT HIS DAD'S COMPANY.

People need to stop pretending that Paul Jr was unfairly tarnished. If he wants to hitch his wagon to his dad's company, then he's an adult and he can suffer the consequences.

I've been reading this board for probably ten years now, but just never felt compelled to post anything - until now.

Last week I noticed the thread that displayed an intense vitriol against Paul Suhey, upon learning of HIS SON passing out his peppers at the Houston Penn State gathering.

Just so you all know, I just moved to Houston upon graduation (and watch every game at the PSAA Houston game viewing party) and Paul Suhey Jr is someone I know personally. I can say without a doubt that the is the perfect Penn Stater. There are very few people I know more that are more intelligent or driven. He could've easily gone to any school in the country, but chose to go to Penn State. Since moving to Houston, he has been a successful engineer and, in addition, has a part time entrepreneurial hobby selling his Gourmet Suhey Peppers. He was very much looking forward to sharing his passion with fellow Penn Staters, before being ousted by the few pitch fork bearing fans that have nothing better to do than to tear an innocent kid down.

I understand and agree, his father was gutless in handling the whole debacle. But why should his son suffer from his fathers actions?
I understand how one could misconstrue Paul Suhey Sr from Paul Suhey Jr.
I get that - an easy mistake to make. I would have thought that Penn State fans would know better than any to examine all the facts, first, and not jump to conclusions. How hypocritical can you be?
Further, just think about it for a minute. Why would a very successful doctor that lives in PA travel down to Houston to give out peppers? Use some common sense first before throwing around death threats (Lane).
Lane and Marshall 30, after reading your comments, you sound like a couple of losers. Paul Jr is a better representative of what it means to be a Penn Stater than you may ever wish to be.

Grow up, move on, and explore all the facts before jumping to conclusions. And, separately, do it with class - use Joe Pa's life as a positive, and think about what he would say.

Get off your high horse! The notice that was posted was Paul Suhey; not junior; not senior. Paul Suhey, Sr. along with the rest of the 11/09/11 cabal have caused untold embarrassment for the university, have cost the university millions, and made the university a laughing stock. Excuse me but Paul Suhey, Sr and his family are not Penn Staters; his mother and father are probably rolling over in their graves as is his grandfather!

Perhaps we can "retire" Paul Sr. early from his company...

Oddly enough this was also the advice given by the Lettermans Club to Dr. Suhey when he sought their endorsement for his BoT re-election bid.

The events really aren't complicated. It was presented that Paul Suhey would be there. I can't blame people for not magically knowing that it wasn't the Paul Suhey (Sr) that is always mentioned with regard to PSU. When the chapter president qualified it the furor pretty much died down.

Now I see that Jr was there to promote Sr's business and trade on their family's Penn State name. As others have said, they can do that but given Sr's actions that family name is pretty much mud right now.

I don't think people should hold Jr responsible for Sr's actions in general, however, Jr was there to promote Sr's company so I have no problem if people don't want the Suhey Sr company around PSU events. This is a bed of Sr's making.

So, during the 4+ years that Penn Staters, fans of their teams, the football program, Canners on the street trying to raise money for charity, even State College and the surrounding communities, were pilloried from pillar to post with the worst sort of slander and calumny, you never felt compelled to post even a short message here to commiserate or interact with fellow alums or fans? Even, from merely a football standpoint, to celebrate the amazing resilience of the 2012 team - competing in the face of supposedly impartial referees who told them they "were lucky to be playing", no bowl game to shoot for, depleted depth, and fighting off rival coaching staffs stalking them on campus - during all that time not a peep. Never a post congratulating Mike Mauti or Gerald Hodges on landing jobs in the NFL? Never a post about the successes of Penn State volleyball or wrestling? I could go on.

But you feel compelled to start a thread on Pepper-Gate? About a kid who grew up on 3rd base no doubt and probably thinks he hit a triple, swung a sweet job through family connections with one of the worst examples of Big Pharma, and, horror of horrors, has his Pepper-shilling appearance canceled at an alumni function. Oh the humanity!

Paul Sr. "retired" JVP. Ironically, the chickens have come home to roost.

LMAO! How true.

1st, re Suhey Jr., "He could've easily gone to any school in the country, but chose to go to Penn State." Why thank you, Junior Suhey......thank you so very much for choosing Penn State over all those better schools. We're so obliged to you Master Suhey.

2nd, "I still hint at him that I do not agree with his fathers actions,".........HINT???? Why you pompous chicken-shiat. You call yourself a Penn Stater??!! Tell him straight up. What are you afraid of?

3rd, "Grow up, move on, and explore all the facts before jumping to conclusions. And, separately, do it with class - use Joe Pa's life as a positive, and think about what he would say." The Suhey friend lecturing us on how to do it with class and use Joe's life as the example. That would be the Joe that Suhey shiat on, yes??!

Bison, you've been buffaloed..........you dumb a$$.

If it makes you feel better about yourself to direct your anger at innocent people, go ahead. But an easy comparison of hypocrisy can be made here...

With all respect, that cuts both ways. Alumni have been insulted and been told for 4 years now to just shut up and "move on" and forget any injustices done to others in this mess.

So let's say fine- we give up. Let's just 'move on' and adopt Sr's attitude and philosophy..........including with regard to this Houston party pepper tasting cancellation.

However, if we apply that same attitude and standard here when it affects the Suhey family suddenly Suhey and his friends are upset? Hypocrisy charges certainly can be made..... ;)

I just thought I had a unique perspective on this situation. If I had one about the above you mentioned, I probably would have. Congrats to canners, the 2012 team, Mauti, ect. I've always been a fan. I've always been a staunch JVP supporter. But wow, the hatred has really allowed me to reevaluate things.
Bottom line, the death threats compelled me to say something.

What "death threats"?

LMAO! How true.
Someone tried to hit Suhey SR in the mouth for his role in the Paterno affair. Instead, he hit Suhey Jr in the gut. Instead of admitting the mistake, apologizing, and rectifying the problem, there are rationalizations and accusations galore.

Sins of the father. Grow up people. This is not tsarist Russia where you have to kill the whole royal family. Let Jr live his life instead of letting your desire for retribution lead you down a very wrong road. That is idiotic and immature. Jr was not in the room on the fateful night and did not cast a vote.

Father's company. This was all over before anyone even checked to see if it was his father's company. Maybe it was Jr.'s, or his uncle's or his aunt's. No one knew before acting. I believe it was started by SR, but my guess is he started it to turn over to Jr if Jr did OK. My guess is as good as your assumptions. So who did you hurt?

Jr should feel the pain also. Does anyone really think he hasn't been affected already? How many friends do you think he may have lost? How many people said something to him walking down College Ave? Does anyone doubt Sr doesn't know how it affected his family? The only difference now is that YOU got to send the message.

The desire for retribution is too palpable here. Impatience is understandably a part of that. However, look at yourselves and ask "would Joe approve?" of hurting Jr. If you mistakenly believe so, then go right ahead and pat yourselves on the back. You are are now officially a Joebot who is willing to do anything to anybody to keep Joe on some imaginary lofty podium.

Put Jr on the list of innocents hurt. You guys chose to hurt him in order to send a message that has already been sent before. The beauty of the internet.

You arrogant a$$, everyone has a unique perspective. And now you, the very special you, expresses WOW at the hatred. Which hatred would that be? The hatred towards PSU? The hatred towards JVP and his family? The hatred towards the alumni,? This hatred was greatly boosted by the likes Paul Suhey's, his BoT friends and some of his family. You are one of them. Weak, snarky cowards. Damn right I hate you.

I think that's fair. I am glad you posted. Jr. may well be a great guy, and for his "hurt" I am sorry. But lets not be confused who created the "hurt" in the first place. If Jr. is upset, he should be just as upset at his father. Penn St. is a huge community of people. When you are trying to capitalize off of your father's name, "sins of the father" are clearly going to come into play.

I hope it gets settled soon so we can put this crap behind us...but until then...keep posting!

Thanks obliviax. I agree, and I would be curious what he thinks. As a disclaimer, I know him personally but I would not consider him a close friend.
I look forward to talking football and not BoT politics. It puts me in a better mood.

It kind of bugs me that your name is so close to mine, when I disagree with you fairly vigorously. I hope people don't confuse us.

At any rate, the entire Suhey family has been mute, except for Matt, who supports his dad wholeheartedly. It's reasonable to assume that they all think that what Suhey Sr. did was appropriate and just. That's fine, they are all entitled to have their own opinions and/or circle the wagons. Barring some sort of explanation, though, they shouldn't be surprised when they are painted with the same broad brush, fairly or unfairly. Bradley was. Jay was. Even Joe was. They all "had to know", right? Dad Suhey did nothing to dissuade that opinion, did he?

If his family is similarly affected, then what goes around comes around. They better not dare complain, either.

I mean, let's be serious pnny, it absolutely is. If the President was going to an event in Texas and someone said that in reference to him, they'd have the Secret Service at the door before they could blink.

Of course it isn't. Ridiculous to think it is.

Well said lurker. I can't believe how un-"Penn State" the pitchfork bearers have become. Time for them to look in the mirror.
