Payton Banks

But it's a total surprise to Chambers and he has no one he is recruiting.....

Right

Wow, lots of roster space now. We need to get one or two kids for 2017, and then load up for the 2018 class where we are in on a number of really talented kids. Who knows how it ends up, but the 2018 class has a chance to be better than the 2016 class.

I'm not going to get into another peeing contest with Chambers haters, but please educate yourself before you say that Chambers isn't recruiting anyone.

It was the Chambers excuse makers that were saying that. As an excuse.....

The three players who are transferring represented Penn State well, with team first mentality and all of the effort asked of them. I wish them well in the future, whether that includes basketball or not. That being said, anyone who sheds a tear for Banks, Samuels, or Washington transferring is not interested in seeing the program/team get better. The departure of these three players frees up room some decent players still left in the 2017 class or through graduate transfers. They will be upgrades to the three departing players. Also, the players we are involved with in the 2018 class are all high 3 star, 4 star, and even 5 star recruits. These talented additions will be surrounded with the talented Freshmen and Sophomore. If the pieces fall right this year, we will be dancing next season. If 2018 goes like it could, then we will be able to reach for the kind of success that we've never had consistently.

Before you declare the "new guys" as UPGRADES........ perhaps you should wait to see who the "new guys" are.
Maybe? LOL

Unless you want to make a Gunsie "prediction"

Who does Penn State have as potential additions:

Clifton Moore, 6' 10" Forward from Hatboro Horsham who has asked out of his commitment to Indiana now that Creen has been fired. Penn State is standing at the wait, for the second that Indiana grants the release. Of course, Villinova and others are also interested. The lack of roster depth and specifically at the 4 spot will be Penn State's selling point. I have no inside information, and he could even recommit to IU depending on who they hire as the next coach, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Moore playing for Penn State.

I have no idea about transfers (graduate or non-graduate), except that there are some players with legitimate talent coming available now. In fact, UVA has three players who are transferring: Jarred Reuter, Marial Shayok (second-leading scorer), and Darius Thompson. I'd love to have Shayok, but Reuter and Thompson would also be welcomed additions.

For remaining 2017 players, one name I think could happen is Najja Hunter from Westtown School in West Chester

As for 2018 recruits, we have Miles Dread verbally committed already, and here is a link to the potential list of recruits: http://verbalcommits.com/schools/penn-state. Cohill, Carmody, and Forrester are three of the players in this class are most often discussed. Cameron Riddish is a 5 Star one and done who has actually been on campus, which is quite amazing considering the lack of overall success/stature of the program.

Still have to be able to coach them. I have not seen that yet.

No way! Samuels & Washington cleared enough space. Banks was PSU's best perimeter shooter and could have provided senior leadership. I know his defense was suspect but his departure is not a positive for this team.

Honestly, Samuels and Washington were likely coached into transferring. Banks on the other hand could have been useful this coming season. He doesn't have the top end talent that Chambers needs to have a success with his program, but he was able to make some shots and play reasonable defense.

I'd love some of what you're smoking. Wake me up when all that "upgraded" talent rolls in. Until then the program again gets bogged down during the off season. I hope Zemgulis or Bostick can find a three ball over the summer or we are a 14-17 team again next year. The beat goes on.

starting line-up
F Reeves
F Stevens
C Watkins
G Garner
G Carr

Not bad if Reeves and Garner can pick up the offense. The three freshmen should be better all around. Rebounding still an issue with this unit.

6th Bostick
7th Pierce/ Moore
8th Zemgulis
9th Moore/ Pierce
10th Buttrick

I like Bostick and his energy. Pierce/ Moore combo needs to board and has 10 fouls to give. Zemgulis needs to find his range. Not expecting much from Buttrick.

Yeah, I'm not betting the mortgage payment on anything.... I don't think it does any good to dwell on the negative or predict negative outcomes.

With the three transfers we would at least be able to flip around the wins and loss totals. As it is now, we need a could of able bodies to provide minutes and fouls. If we get a transfer or class of 2017 recruit that can contribute significantly then we could push 20 wins and make the big dance.

Why doesn't Chambers just hire some recruit's father as an assistant coach? Seems to work at other schools.

Yeah, you have it as I would expect. There are 5 guys to potentially come in off the bench... Not all of them have proven to be effective. I think we need to have a few more guys with raw athleticism that can at least be challenging practice players.

Juco transfer on campus this weekend. Kajon Brown, 6'5" wing out of Louisiana, who played one year at Tulsa before going to Lee JC in TX. There's an outside chance that he might have three years of eligibility.

Whats your definition of reasonable? He was a bad defender and a streak shooter. Not saying its good that he goes, he would eb a scoring threat off the bench but, and this is a BIG but, a transfer from a JUCO may be able to fill the same role with more athleticism.

I also said that we shouldn't shed any tears for his departure and that we have a good chance at replacing him with an upgrade in talent.

The elephant in the room not being discussed is why did Banks not show more improvement over his PSU career.

losing three players is not good. It's a loss of depth any way you slice it. the ice is getting thin for Pat; I really want him to succeed, but...
