Penn State 2019 Season articles

Agree. All signs are pointing toward Brown. Franklin has mentioned him a lot, sometimes when being asked about different players. There is little buzz on Ricky who appears to be more situational, more likely to be used in the pass game. The clip on Brown from a recent practice showed a decisive and powerful runner. I think he has caught up and lapped Ricky and he is the putative #1 RB at present.

Remember Brown might sit the Idaho game or the Idaho first half because of his off season issue. I think Ricky starts the first game.

The most unknown among the top 50 quarterbacks, Clifford forced Tommy Stevens to transfer after impressing on his very limited time in the Penn State offense a year ago. The post-Trace McSorley era is in good hands with Clifford as he completed 5-of-7 passes and four of them went as our big-time throws. He can float the ball with perfect touch just as he can punch the ball into tight windows and with a much larger sample size incoming this season, expect big things from Clifford and his pass-catchers.

I have to laugh at the fact Yahoo has Justin Fields number 1 for their college fantasy football

Yeah, the hype about Fields hasn't matched up to the reports coming out of camp. Here is the OZone mod, Gerd, on what he expects.

I know we have a super small sample size, but as the regular season approaches I am wondering what to expect.

What to expect...

3,500 yards passing, 37 TDs, 10 INTs,67% comp, 650 yards rushing, 10 TDs.

All Big Ten.

Heisman discussion.

Anyone watch the BTN visit with Michigan last night? Of course I'm biased, but they didn't seem 25% as hyped about the Michigan team vs. how they talked about Penn State. FWIW. And Michigan is the Big Ten front runner and a lock for the playoffs according to everyone.

Their starting corner Ambry Thomas isn't practicing and isn't on the 110 roster because he is suffering from colitis. Depth behind him is shaky.

And if Thompkins holds onto the ball in the Kentucky game, his stats would be 6-7 for 245yds. 2TDs. I know the stats are limited but, why does Clifford have so many more long balls than Stevens while throwing so few passes? Was that on Stevens or, did the coaching staff have the confidence in Clifford to come in cold and chuck a 40+ yard bombs on his first throw?

hopefully Hartlaub is the second coming of Darien Hardy

my son and I stopped watching the ball on kickoffs specifically because Hardy was so entertaining absolutely blowing people up on kickoff coverage....it was amazing.....every damned kick

luckily a lot of times Hardy ended up converging with the return man anyway

edit....this was back in the early 2000s

Hardy was awesome. Was a real headhunter. I watched him each time as well.

Franklin stated that the OL was a major point of emphasis this offseason. TE Coach Bowen has been working in tandem with Limegrover to figure some things out - Bowen was the OL coach at UMD at one point. Staff also brought in a handful of NFL consultants to look at scheme, playcalling, etc. to see how else they could improve line play.

not surprised by the 4.6 40...his HS filmed showed elite agility and acceleration...i'd like to see his shuttle and 3 cone drill testing numbers - they should be really good...long speed is questionable currently

4.32 shuttle but 36” vert

Perhaps this is addressed in one of the more recent coaching press conferences (which I admittedly have not had opportunity to watch) or in other associated updates, but based on "not too long ago" Coach Franklin comments, he was very vague and only expressed "hope" that Scruggs would return at some point this season.

That said, there does appear to be a picture, albeit not an action photo, from yesterday's (8/14/19) practice (during which the offense wore white and the defense blue) of a #70 in a white uniform?

They are going to have to watch Hamler's reps. I imagine he will take all of the punt and kickoff returns in the big games, and get spot duty in the other games.
