I'd welcome a 'possession receiver with speed', especially with this new QB and running game. I'll take a D Hamilton or even a Jordan Norwood as complementary players any time. Not every team has a number one receiver that can be a number one anywhere. Even with their stable of highly-recruited WRs, aside from Marvin Harrison, OSU's WR corp didn't stand out-his injury cost them the game against Georgia.
Even watching this weekend's Giants playoff game, pure one-on-one speed is not the only way for a WR to get open or have an advantage over the DB for the ball. Hearing KLS's comments on his route at the Rose Bowl made me wonder where was this all year...hopefully the new WR coach can produce more of these situations.
And it seems to me, just like the OL of the recent past (prior to the new OL coach who is gradually leaving his mark on recruiting and player development), if a receiver didn't come to Penn State with good to great skills, the time and coaching at Penn State didn't significantly improve them...more reason for the coach's exit.
And for the life of me, I cannot understand the success WVU has in WR recruiting competition with Penn State. For a while, many years ago they produced NFL receivers, but their team has been a joke since RRod left and they joined the Big12-and I find much less pleasure in saying so than others on this board make similar comments directed at the team just north of WVU. I miss the annual games against WVU. It is too bad the conferences are aligned with revenue (mostly TV) streams. WVU was a big loser in this model.
