Football Penn State Football Fall Camp Position Breakdowns: Tight Ends

Every discussion seems to look more to the RS and true freshmen for potential break out candidates at TE.

But Dinkins is a high level athlete who proved his receiving skills in limited opportunities in 2022. Surely Dinkins has worked hard on his blocking and if he now has the size and toughness to block well for the running game he could be the true breakout TE for 2023.

Both Johnson and Warren may go to the NFL after this season and if the staff has been made aware of their preliminary intentions to do so it will be a higher priority for the staff to get the young TE's, including Dinkins, some experience in 2023.

I'm hoping Warren comes back in 2024 to be PSU's AA candidate at TE....... It seems that Johnson will be a high draft choice after this season if he stays healthy.

I want to see more of Dinkins and Cross as receivers. Dinkins can run some patterns that most tight ends cannot. Cross has height and a wing span that cause me think of end zone mismatches.

In any event. The TE room is and will be fun to watch into the future.

To me, I'd think Warren would want to come back to be the lead man. I'm not saying he can't go after a productive season sharing the limelight but I would think he'd want a shot at being the guy and jumping up NFL teams' boards.

Yes, I'm hoping that is the case. But young men make their own decisions based on their own priorities. The TE room is well stocked at PSU so it seems that PSU will field a talented couple of TE's in 2024 either way as long as the young TE's stay at PSU and continue to develop. TE seems to be a position where true freshmen really should be groomed for the future as it seems too big a task to gain the strength, learn the offense and assignments, and develop the blocking techniques required to be an outstanding TE in a Spring and/or Fall camp. Even if Warren leaves PSU could have a depth chart among Dinkins, Cross, Rappleyea and Schlaffer, which seems like a very talented group.

On might also see a kid link Dinkins or Reynolds coming in playing that fast good in open space sure handed big guy guy receiver that can also block well rolling they don't bulk up too much. The diverse talent in the TE room is really impressive and interesting to me.

Look at the huge progress Strange made with blocking last season. I agree it is certainly possible for Dinkins.

Room is seemingly well stocked. A little light on known blocking prowess, but no glaring liabilities. Pass catching is good to exceptional. We have a #3 that is probably starter ready and seen some playing time. Most can't say that about a #2.

Baby Pat F is on the roster as well as a true freshman. Rapp sounds like the type who can break his way onto the field, but hopefully he's not needed (unless he plays like Bower).
