Football Notre Dame defeats Penn State 27-24 in CFP Semifinals

It was a bad throw/decision by Allar. Absolutely. But the kid is under so much pressure to be absolutely perfect because we have no WR to work with, that is not being considered enough here. He wouldn't have to be absolutely perfect if we didn't have a dogshit WR room for several years now. So the Allar criticism is valid, but it wouldn't come down to him having to be perfect in every situation if he had guys other than a TE to throw to.
I said the Allar criticism is warranted too. The two bad passes to Singleton lost us this game in the end. What I'm saying is if we had even an average WR room we still would have won with those mistakes he made. There is a reason we can't get good WR to come here, even in the portal, but I don't know what it is. And I mean GOOD WR, not kinda average portal guys.

I hate it when Ohio State kicks our a**, but they’re better than us. What’s more aggravating is losing to what I think is a very mediocre, clearly inferior ND team. It blows.

Well, it was an excellent season and a fun ride to be still in it in mid January. It’s now on to wrestling and fantasy baseball prep. Night all.
Allar was the 3rd best QB tonight.

Agreed. But I still can't figure out why we were trying to force a pass down the field risking so much when that is not our strength. Why did we panic? Still had timeouts. Run the ball and use short passes to RBs or Warren.

It is my understanding that after QB, WR is the most expensive position on the field in NIL. The collective is going to have to figure it out.

He's thinking "I'm the best NFL QB prospect in college. I'll wow the scouts with this throw late across the middle for a completion," or something similar.
To be fair...top NFL QBs still do that for year in the NFL. Allen finally seems to have stopped. Took how many years?

Our Qb thrown crappy passes all night and somehow it is our receivers again. Announces said he had open guys. Stage just too big for him. He freaks out someway and

Let's face it. PSU did in fact have the easiest path to the finals. This is peak Franklin. There is no way, no way PSU gets to the semis again with Franklin at the helm.
Totally agree. He fields solid teams but he just doesn't have what it takes to win the big games.

I am convinced if coaches were switched tonight. PSU would have won. PSU was more talented.

Or if the D just plays solid in the second half 24 is enough

My only consolation is that this Franklin team would have been even more embarrassed in a final matchup versus either OSU or TX. He's outclassed at this level and is simply not a "big time" coach. He got the backing of the university's money, prestige, and history; he's simply not a leader like Paterno, Bryant, or Saban. He's middle management, who was promoted above his ceiling, i.e., the Peter Principle.

I disagree. I think it was the wrong call.

This was a QB having his worst game of the season. Also a QB that his been prone to panic at times. We ran the ball good tonight. You don't need to risk that play. Short passes and run. Be safe. The worst thing that should happen is OT. Once we get to midfield then you can air it out.

Hindsight is 20/20, but one things for sure - not only was it a bad decision by Allar on last throw, but the throw itself was mindboggling bad. He literally threw it where only the ND player could get it! The ball was at least 5 yards in front of the PSU receiver when the ND defender had leverage to the inside - nowhere near the PSU receiver. Unbelievable given the situation - quite literally gift-wrapped the game for ND.

I blame Franklin tonight but despite this rotten egg he is a top 10 coach. A replacement would have to be a 100% sure thing and PSU must move into the top 5-10 for NIL. In this age of NIL do we land Abdul Carter or Simgleton? Maybe not.

If you're satisfied with finishing 8-4 or 10-2 and make the playoffs every 3/4 years, then yeah Franklin is a top 10 coach.

I think this team would be capable of beating Texas.

OSU is an automatic loss. I'd be shocked if JF ever beats them again.

Yeah a good coach but not one who ever can beat a team of equal or better talent. Just have to live with it I guess.

Speaking of Singleton - he didn't have enough touches tonight. Clearly one of the best players on the field and he only had 15 carries?????

Well that’s a new way to lose. What the hell does that pass accomplish?

Need a new wr coach next season.

Agreed. I also feel like we should have fed Warren much more.
It's weird but it seemed they went to him less after his monster USC game. Maybe they were trying to keep the offense from being too dependent on one guy? But this is the semifinals! This is the time to lean on the guys who are making plays.
