Football Notre Dame defeats Penn State 27-24 in CFP Semifinals

You are 3 for 11 because you have no wide receivers. Jesus Christ what does it take to just accept it and fix it.

Fire Hagans and get a real coach.
Yes obviously we don't have wide receivers, but if Andy would get away from his tendencies and actually develop crossing routes and rub routes, you know ways that every other coordinator gets guys open they wouldn't be so ineffective. Heck a WR screen to get them a catch and into the game. Andy and JF are all flash and shine.

I won't be able to sleep tonight thinking about that last turnover. I just don't understand it. The call, the throw all just horrible. As someone said similar to the end of the Oregon game. Where we just throw it up for no reason.

But I actually do like Allar and hope this game doesn't define him.

Clearly you never played. Coaches provide strategy, motivation, and confidence. None of that is on display here.

There was a report Cleveland was directly in his ear, trying to convince him to come out in this draft. He forced it because he believed the hype. Franklin has fault in this because he should have brought him down to earth and calmed him down before the game and throughout the game. That is the difference between Franklin and Freeman. Freeman kept it cool and guided his team despite getting clobbered on both lines of scrimmage in the first half. Franklin does not have the composure for these games. And I’m not sure he’ll ever have it if he doesn’t have it at the age of 52. I guess we should be happy to win double digits every season but goddamn, I wanna win a natty.
A natty would be nice but at this point I'd take a win over a top 5 favorite every once in a while. It seems like forever.

Agreed. But I still can't figure out why we were trying to force a pass down the field risking so much when that is not our strength. Why did we panic? Still had timeouts. Run the ball and use short passes to RBs or Warren.
He was trying to throw it away at Omari's feet, he said.

Speaking of Singleton - he didn't have enough touches tonight. Clearly one of the best players on the field and he only had 15 carries?????
Franklin and AK have not embraced the reality of what we became this year - a power running team. Singleton is a beast. Allen is too. The OLine is excellent. Instead, we spent too much time f’ing around. Remember the Michigan game a few years ago? Their passing game didn’t have it in the first half, so what do they do? Run every single time in the second half and beat us to a pulp. We could’ve done that today when Allar clearly did not have it and we clearly owned the los. I am completely convinced of it. Instead, we give the outcome to our broken qb who was not seeing the field correctly.

Allers statistical numbers have been terrible in all three games of the playoffs.. he hasn't remotely looked in charge and in command with greater stretches of good than bad. Changing the subject, our corners were very underwhelming this year and got toasted against well coached teams. I love Reed and Wheatley as safeties those guys are studs but our corners leave a lot to be desired

Some guy I've never heard of on ND had 100 yards tonight! And we don't have one friggin WR who can make one friggin catch? They're so bad that I was wondering why we weren't using TEs way more than we did. Reynolds: 1 pass thrown 1 catch. Dinkins: 1 pass thrown 1 catch.

Allar had how many drops against Boise...6?
He threw only 1 pick in 3 games including horrible weather and wind in the opener, right?
Today was bad....the other two games were not

Penn State football doing what Penn State football does. The best pair of backs, the best tight end and best pass rusher and they couldn't get it done. Meanwhile ND had injuries all over the place and still managed to keep it together. Could be another 10 years until they the get that kind of talent on the field.
Feel the same. I really felt looking at the teams the talent is more with PSU.

But not a single WR that would see meaningful playing time on any other playoff team. How exactly does that happen?

JF with his typical loser mentality soft quotes in the post game about how so many other teams would love to be in our position, and I love this one... he says something to the effect of he knows how important winning is here that's been made very clear to him. As if he disagrees and it's some ghastly statement.. he always has to be so defensive. What a con.

I'm not gonna research this, but I'd be willing to bet (a lot) that no coach with a record against top 10 teams like Franklin has ever won the natl championship.

One area I got wrong tonight. I thought PSU receivers were about the same as ND. Neither very good. But ND receivers destroyed us in comparison.

I knew PSU receivers were bad but disappointed in the defense. They were not good in the 2nd half.

Again. I know others will argue. But to compete for a ball. The ball has to actually to thrown in your vicinity

They never adjusted to the way the refs were calling the game. Why play a zone at all when the refs are letting the dbs play like it was the 70s NFL. They were constantly playing a soft zone behind pressure on the QB. And how exactly do you let ND throw at 54 yard TD pass when you're playing cover 1?

If Drew was throwing the ball like he did against Boise in the 1st qtr, we would have been up 21-0 at half. The 2 passes he missed to Singleton in the 1st half cost us 11 pts
We scored a TD on the second drive after he missed Singleton. 14-3. And if we score there ND may get 7 before half.

The next time James's agent floats rumors that he's going elsewhere or wants to play contract crap again, Pat has to not play that game anymore. This idea that we can't do better is the softest biggest loser mentality that some of this fan base holds. We are Penn State for crying out loud we should be better than this.

Defense came up small when we needed them most. Up 24-17 and 7 and change left. Gotta get a stop there. Very disappointing.

Looking back a few things I remember noticing.

1. Our players are never ready on the 1st drive of either half. That's coaching.

2. When the game was on the line and the ND QB got flushed out of the pocket and ran down by 11, he came back to the huddle smiling. He wanted to be there and accepted the moment. Drew looked terrified that he might make a mistake. He didn't wanna be in that situation.

3. It's easy to make adjustments for ND's defense when they realize that they can load the box and our WR's still arnt a threat. Boise made the same adjustments, they just were not talented enough to capitalize. Not a ton the OC can do when your best receiver can't win on single coverage even when Drew has time to work through his progressions.

It is what it is. This team was a Dotson type receiver away from being really good.
