the idea is how long their reach is. For example, Joey Porter Jr. has very long arms. And when you look at tens of a second in a 40 yard dash, you can also make that up with "length" or "reach". I haven't done the math but a tenth of a second in a 40-yard dash is something like 4 inches. If your arms are 4 inches longer than a 5-9 DB, you can run a slower 40 and still be in a position to knock the ball away.I always shudder when people talk about player's "length". I prefer height or reach to describe those physical properties; length means something irrelevant to football to me.
