Penn State NIL news

Interesting idea, like a sort of good-faith clearinghouse that perhaps gives the University some cover to approve deals, more comfortable in the knowledge that this (unaffiliated) organization approves of the vendor. Likewise for the approved vendors. And it gives the athletes an agent of sorts, lightening their workload. Everyone's still tiptoeing around NIL because it's presently unclear to most how to enter the space, so leveraging the trust of known alumni to serve as middleman is pretty smart.

I just subscribed. You can target a sport your monthly NIL $ goes to.

It’s the least I can do in return for the entertainment this amazing team has provided me for a decade+
You should be giving that to football, you know. Lol I kid, I kid.

I hope they're also doing market surveys to understand what is possible for the less heralded athletes.

Loved the BYU Football deal where all the walk ons on got free tuition.

Something Iike that would be huge for nonrevenue sports, where almost nobody gets a full ride and most get just an attaboy.

This imo is a race to the bottom. But, athletes and administrators have already shown ( pro sports) that they will bleed the consumer of their product until there is nothing left.
It upsets me when I hear of entertainers making 30-40 million a YEAR and then I see stories about food banks.
I love PSU wrestling, but enough has become more than enough for me.

Very interesting. I can see how Levi Lamb contributions, that broadly fund athletic scholarships and academic support, could take a big hit.

Nittany Lion Club members, who typically have season tickets to one or more sports, could prefer more targeted contributions to a sport rather than contributing beyond the minimum per seat donation.

As athletic contributions are no longer tax deductible, the Levi Lamb no longer has that modest advantage, but that might change back when the Job Tax Act expires in a few years.

Some financial supporters could be motivated to cut out NCAA-governed Penn State administration out as the middleman. The organization's name being a well-known JoePa mantra and the reaction of many PSU alumni to the NCAA and PSU Administration's treatment of JoePa could be a catalyst for this organization to really impact the organizational structure that the Levi Lamb Fund supports.

And this is happening on the heels of the Levi Lamb Fund taking the big COVID-19 related drop in funding.

Although I'm not sure how efficiency is calculated, "Success with Honor" states 85-90% of contributions will go to athletes. I couldn't find any equivalent for the Levi Lamb Fund.

I wonder how much of the recent past and future projections may have played a role in Sandy Barbour's retirement. I'd guess they could've only hastened it.

I think that, if athletic administrations for NCAA institutions are interested in maintaining some semblance of their control / empires, then their first move should be to eliminate athletic scholarship limitations.

And PSU should look to allow Levi Lamb contributions to be targeted to a specific sports team.

That might stave off some of the financial bleeding from the Levi Lamb Fund to Success with Honor.

I would like to see most schools add women's wrestling and then up the scholarship limit to say at least 15 even 20 for each program. The 9.9 is a friggin joke and only magnifies the NIL impact and incentive to abuse.

To think football gets 85, and in an of itself creates most of the imbalance with women's sports. 22 starters and 85 Scholys? I get why and that's where the revenue is, but there are a lot of unintended consequences for the other sports.

Obviously it's a projection until they start handling money, but there are plenty of charities in that range, should be not too difficult to model that organizationally.

But whatever efficiency target they claim or realize -- 85%, 25%, whatever -- it's probably light years ahead of PSU admin.

This attitude wouldn't seem to bode well for the Levi Lamb Fund, if widely shared by its current contributors.

Those at Penn State in charge of the NLC and Levi Lamb would do themselves a favor to try and get ahead of this.

As a minimum I think they could put out some info about the complimentary nature between NLC/Levi Lamb and Success with Honor. NLWC and PSWC often clarify their complimentary roles and their independence from NLC.

I'll be revisiting my Penn State Athletics financial support budget for a reallocation after some of the dust settles (before discussing it with my better half for her approval).
