I am going to ask the same question I asked last year and the year before. Where is the true 5 technique that can set the edge and keep provide some level of control against the outside run? This, not Clifford's injury, cost several games in 2021. It cost us dearly in both losses last year. Until this situation is address, DE is a weakness when we don't have a lead.
We are light at DE and DT.....while we have a very fast defense......the bigger Olines push us around. Michigan was able to pull and bring an extra guard through the hole or a FB through the hole and wall off our LBs. We need at least a draw at the point of attack so that the fast backside or lbs can make the tackle. Against Michigan we were making the first contact on the RB 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. Not many teams have the offense that Michigan has or the fire power that tOSU have, but the Dline has to win more battles.
