LOL...I don't think the staff eats too many donuts, TBH. Pretty trim as a group.Highly possible, but I’m still sticking with Stubblefield forget to order the donuts for the coaches pre junior day meeting.

And to me that has been very questionable as to whether it was an upgrade up until this season. Actually the second half of the season, really.Gonna clarify on this because I see it coming up. Nothing happened recently that led to a sudden termination. My understanding is this move was made with the idea that PSU had a clear upgrade in mind. The move is similar to when PSU allowed Matt Limegrover to walk after a solid 2019 season to bring in Phil Trautwein who they believed was a clear upgrade.
That’s fair. I’m just saying that’s the motivation behind the move. And to me that has been very questionable as to whether it was an upgrade up until this season. Actually the second half of the season, really.
Good point on this may not be the last coaching move. Any great D line coaches available? This might not be the last move made.
Va Tech might not ever be happy again. They made their run to relevance in Miami's probation years in a weak Big East. They then won 10 games a handful of times in the ACC between FSU runs. And that's it. All under one coach, who probably stayed too long and gave up his grip on Virginia recruiting.
Pry has his hands full. He's either gotta start winning the recruiting battles in his state (ones that we have cherry picked recently) or develop guys at a decent level like Pitt.

I imagine that virtually any coach employed or not is available for the right compensation and what he perceives as a better opportunity.Do they have to be available? Or do we just have to pursue and offer the right compensation?
Great idea, finally a coach who can make an offer a recruit can’t refuse.Don Corleone?
Kirk Ciarrocca didn't get a pass, so why does Trautwein? Even so, our running game was pitiful in 2021. It improved in 2022, but we also got 2 top 10 TBs in the class. It's possibly a good thing for Franklin that Tanner Morgan was injured. The move to Yurcich can't be questioned all that much since we won. Hopefully the new WR hire is a good one and the improvements we've seen at OL continue and Allar is all that and we see that Yurcich's offensive genius has maybe mainly been held back by poor position coaching. That’s fair. I’m just saying that’s the motivation behind the move.
I think it’s also probably reasonable to completely wipe out whatever Trautwein did in 2020 considering he didn’t have any hands on work with a new unit running a new scheme.
Personally I believe Ciarrocca got a bit of a raw deal. But he also probably keeps his job if Yurcich doesn’t come available. Ultimately coordinators are held to a higher standard than position coaches and that’s just part of the gig.Kirk Ciarrocca didn't get a pass, so why does Trautwein? Depends on his relationship with his father in law. I was fine after my mother in law passed away.😀No one as mentioned this happened two days after his Father in Law passed away. That has to really hurt and not a good move. Hard to not be emotional and upset considering.
The tweet reads like a resumé for future potential opportunities. Also, very grateful to his players but doesn’t mention Franklin and just hints at fellow coaches. “Great football minds”….
Others have pointed to his employment history. But coaching, especially college, is probably the one career with full expectations of job jumping from the start and throughout a career. Would have to look at each move and see how many were moves up and how many were ‘starting over’ types. If he has a history of lateral moves perhaps it is a personality issue.
Whatever the cause I thank him for his efforts here and wish him and his family well through this difficult time and in the future.
How many coaches looked like world beaters in that crummy conference only to move on and prove they weren’t? Rich Rodriguez, Frank Beamer, Greg Schiano, Bobby Petrino….apparently it’s easy to be a great coach in a garbage conference (unless you’re a coach in the ACC).This might not be the last move made.

Carter is about #43 rated WR in the portal. We can stop sobbing about "losing" him.Carter went elsewhere because he wanted more NIL money among some other things.
I hope PSU continues to stumble along at 11-2.....keeps me happy and you have something to bitch about.Kirk Ciarrocca didn't get a pass, so why does Trautwein? She was probably happy to get away from you!Depends on his relationship with his father in law. I was fine after my mother in law passed away.😀
Sorry but I highly doubt they are going to bring in a 60 year old guy who hasn’t coached in almost 20 years. In what world would that be a good choice?Kenny Jackson lives in State College. Seems like a good choice to me if he wants the job.
I have no doubt. She was probably happy to get away from you!
I am happy we finally got back to where we were in 2019 and we have some good pieces coming back. But it's tempered by the fact that we're continually losing to Ohio State and getting totally beaten down by Michigan almost every time we go to Ann Arbor. And being perceived by everyone as the 3rd best team in our division. If you are completely happy with that, I'm happy for you. But CJF told us we're going to go from very good to elite, and we're still waiting over 4 years later, while Michigan has gone to 2 CFP games, has its coach coming back and looks to be as good or better next year. We were arguably ahead of them at the time he made that speech.I hope PSU continues to stumble along at 11-2.....keeps me happy and you have something to bitch about.
Have fun waiting. I'm gonna enjoy a top 10 finish and 11 wins. PSU isn't as good as OSU or U of M, and everything historically backs that up. It's possible there will be a magical season once every 15-20 years. Why does it bother you that PSU Football is "perceived" by everyone as anything?I am happy we finally got back to where we were in 2019 and we have some good pieces coming back. I think this is judicious and fair to point this out, we haven't elevated to where CJF said we would. That said, I think this firing shows CJFs commitment to getting there. For the first time since maybe '17, I think Franklin knows he's got some real pieces coming together for a special few years. I think he is actively trying to upgrade every spot on this team, coaching included. This move represents an acknowledgement that we aren't elite and he isn't satisfied. Clearly he thinks there is hire to be made that improves this team...so he is doing it. I think CJF showed a lot of growth this year as a coach.I am happy we finally got back to where we were in 2019 and we have some good pieces coming back. Is it your identity? Your Career? Coaches say a lot of things. People in general have conversations every day.....do you doubt he wants to win every game? He's a diligent worker. He's under contract for 9 more years and PSU owes him 63 million if he's fired.
PSU is a top 8-15 program .At least 115 other fan bases would love to be where PSU football is right now.
And let’s not forget our new AD Kraft appears to be pulling in some additional Donor money which is absolutely critical in this College Football Chess game.. actually his hire could be one of the most important for the athletic department in a long long time.. I know we need to wait and see but..I think this is judicious and fair to point this out, we haven't elevated to where CJF said we would. What are you talking about? We have as many national titles as Ohio State and more than UM since I started following Penn State football in 1977. We should have had at least a third. We beat Bama and Georgia and USC and Nebraska and Miami when the Big Ten teams could only dream of it. I am mostly happy with the job CJF is doing, but I don't like the fact his contract effectively gives him little accountability for results and an easy exit if he desires while he is able to fire assistants at will. Perception plays a big role in recruiting. I want us to win Natty's again, not just be happy we lost only 2 games. It's hard when we are viewed as an afterthought in our own division. I hope CJF can flip the script, but thus far since 2016, a period he can fairly be judged on, CJF has a losing record in the games that matter in this conference. I will view any moves he makes with a jaundiced eye until I see they are leading to a championship. Maybe he is doing as well as anyone could do at Penn State today, but part of the fun of college football is seeing your team shut up the doubters with on-the-field results. I grew up a fan of PSU football during a successful period, so I don't accept a ceiling on our success. If I wanted to be happy with 8 win seasons and an occasional 11 win season I'd root for a team like Iowa. Heck, even Michigan until the last 2 years. We're Penn State. We should aim higher than just hoping to win meaningful games.Have fun waiting. I'm gonna enjoy a top 10 finish and 11 wins. Since 1950, we are 607-232-7. UM is 579-241-13. Ohio State is 643-177-15.There is no meaningful metric to historically place PSU above Ohio State or Michigan.
This might be the most unintelligent statement I have ever read on this board....and that says something considering I wander over to the Test board. First off, you need to read the etymology of the word "fan" in this context. The essence of being a fan includes discomfort, pain, and negativity for which you support. Is the intended idea of your argument that anything that includes the above should not be considered a form of entertainment? Ask golfers if they feel uncomfortable or negative on the course.....would you suggest they find different forms of entertainment? Anything in life that matters includes these ideals. As our own coach says.....the great thing about the school is how invested everyone is and he mentions often why it hurts so much when the team loses. It's one of his core principles, to INVEST. The players give so much to the sport, the fans do too.....maybe the 107K paying to be at beaver stadium in the cold should find "other forms of entertainment." If that happened.....I promise, you would not get your 9 more years of CJF.I want to be 6'2" but that won't happen.....and I'm done crying about it. CJF 9 more years!
I'll enjoy every game and I attended my first in 1966. Love PSU football, but if fandom becomes painful, uncomfortable or inspires negativity, perhaps one should look for other forms of entertainment.
Can be. We'll see.Since 1950, we are 607-232-7. UM is 579-241-13. Ohio State is 643-177-15.
From 1950-1992, we were 351-115-7, Ohio State was 327-11-14, and Michigan was 321-126-13. The decline was not simply a matter of playing in a conference vs being independent. There were a lot of other factors I don't want to get into here. There's no reason we can't be that competitive again in my view.
I stand corrected. Enjoy being miserable. This might be the most unintelligent statement I have ever read on this board....and that says something considering I wander over to the Test board. Bobby Engram rumors are not dying down.Sorry but I highly doubt they are going to bring in a 60 year old guy who hasn’t coached in almost 20 years. In what world would that be a good choice?
This looks like, more and more, that there was a sudden event that caused this to tip over last weekend. Maybe something with Jr. Day or some kind of insubordination. CJF ended the season saying he was hoping for no or minimal staff changes. Between then and last weekend, something changed. And since there isn't any really high end name jumping off the board, it looks like it wasn't pre-planned.Article says he wasn’t a great recruiter. True??
Prugar: Coaching Change Abrupt But Necessary
It was abrupt when Taylor Stubblefield announced his departure from Penn State Sunday night. Then James Franklin came out with thisnittanysportsnow.com
The same can be said for PSU. The majority of the departures have been for a promotion in job title. If he needed to be fired so be it. Franklin has to do what’s best for the program. But that’s a poor comparison. While people leave Alabama virtually every year they usually go on to better positions. Rarely are they fired.
Yeah that is tough from a timing perspective. I'm confident Franklin wouldn't pile on unless he had to. This looks like a similar case like with Kirk Ciarrocca and Mike Yurcich last year, and there are no guarantees how long a coach that Franklin wants might be on the market and available. Franklin's hands with the timing are probably tied. He's such a big family guy I really would think he'd have handled it differently timing wise if at all possible. And as they say, there's really no good time to get fired either. No one as mentioned this happened two days after his Father in Law passed away. That has to really hurt and not a good move. Hard to not be emotional and upset considering.
