When the wins were restored, men's hockey coach Guy Gadowsky had the players wear 409 stickers on their helmets. An idiot michigan athletic supporter spouted off on Twitter that this was insensitive to the victims. sandy pantsuit, the highly paid athletic director of a major university, saw this and tweeted that she agreed, and she had Gadowsky remove the stickers. The athletic director threw one of her coaches under a bus because of a stupid tweet by an athletic supporter of another school.

Bingo! She has done nothing. The expectation for someone of her station and compensation level is to have a list of accomplishments after a year plus at the helm.
What she's poised to do may have us wishing for a return to her indolence.

Yeah, she has hired/promoted more Assistant ADs than there are men's varsity sports. I also think that the standards of cleanliness and overall quality in the Mount Nittany Club have declined in the past two years. She is a lackey of the BOT.

She wasn't new. She'd been an AD before, and has been an educated adult far longer than that. There was no excuse for the way she kissed that Michigan fan's ass, none. The reason it happened, however, is because she is a dumbshit.

1. She rides on the long storied success of Joe yet she won't honor him.
2. She constantly Tweets at Joe's previous players (even players from many many years ago) yet won't honor Joe.
3. She continuously says "Success with Honor" as if she had anything to do with that decades-old tradition.
4. She talks about the work she is doing/money she is spending to make sure our student athletes have the chance to academically succeed as if she is fixing some problem. FFS, she came from Cal and has no history regarding student athlete academic success while we have been the gold standard in that area for decades. She's not fixing a damn thing.
She's a fake who is being paid an absurd amount to pretend she's fixing issues we've never had.

Valid reason to view her with a level of concern. Further reasons included the hiring and spending that seems to be growing each day she is on the job. But the innuendo about her lifestyle choices have no place in the discussion. It just doesn't belong as part of the conversation. I thought the PSU community and the "Portland" position parted ways years ago.
The only way I would be concerned is if there were bias in the other direction. One thing Portland was talking about (and she spoke to our alumni club may years back) and which I agree with is that she saw a lot of cases in women's athletics where if you didn't play on the coach's team you didn't play. That's just as bad and is the dirty little secret that doesn't get talked about--really that you are no longer allowed to talk about.
Where I live, Columbus, has a lesbian police chief. She's pretty good at her job. I'm ok with it--actually, to be fair (I've met her a few times), I'm quite impressed with her. She's a good cop--and she is not biased, as far as I can tell. If Sandy ends up being a good AD, that's good too. But we have seen things that are concerning which have nothing to do with her lifestyle. We should be free to critique that.
I am not a fan of Ms. Barbour. She promotes herself too much. Let your accomplishments speak for you.

I don't think he realizes the damage this woman can do in even a few short years. She's well on her way and we haven't seen anything yet. I admit I'm guilty of Incompetent-dangerous-overpriced-AD-phobia.

It's amazing how much free time you have when you blow off the 'homework' you have yourself, namely reading the entire Freeh report and supporting documents. I find it hard to believe he represents anything positive about Penn State. I may dance when he and some of the BOT power block leave.
Actually, she does have a history. During her tenure at Cal, graduation rates for the football team and men's basketball team went into the crapper.
I've read through this thread and am having difficulty finding any "homophobic slur" that would merit a ban. Innuendo? Perhaps, but if you start banning people for innuendo, this board will die.
I don't know how long you've been a Moderator, but you're the first to make direct threats about banning posters, seemingly because of a personal vendetta. That's similar behavior to the Surma Brothers.
We seem to have a lot of people who are constantly looking for something -anything- to feel indignant about. I'm not a particular for of Sandy, and I'm still deciding on Barron, but one thing that I do know is that neither of them had anything to do with Sandusky or how the Sandusky situation was handled by the BOT.

They are an extension of those who did handle the Sandusky situation, and are beholden to them. We've been lied to by Barron and embarrassed by Sandy. Not sure why it's taking you so long to decide on an opinion regarding them.
The AD is supposed to monitor the academic standing of athletes and take remedial action if there are problems. Barbour didn't, at least not until the problem had been allowed to fester for years and news of it was all over the media.
so that's the AD's job and not say the Admissions department for allowing sub standard athletes in? Or say the academic department responsible for academic progress? or say the President who is responsible for all of the students. Sounds to me Cal needed a fall guy (see Chris Carter) for some things that happened and they found one in Sandy. Besides wouldnt you think it more logical for the HFC or HBB coach monitor their athletes progress so they could keep them eligible to play?? IIRC coaches get fired over W/L's not how many guys get C's.
The problem is going to be the same no matter who is president or who is AD. There really isn't any point in yelling about Barron or Barbour when they can only do what the trustees allow them to do. Get rid of them and they will be replaced by other people who will be similarly controlled by the trustees. The focus should be on Masser et al. They are the root of all evil.
I'll wait until she has more of a track record here. Did the Patriots judge Belicek on his track record with the Browns?? Not saying she's been exceptional (she hasn't) and not saying there aren't reasons for concern (there are). But I'm ok with waiting and seeing. How she handles the Beaver Stadium expansion/replacement will tell the tale, I think.
Listen up, dummy. A former Cal men's BB coach, the one hired by Barbour, is a good friend and neighbor of my brother. After news broke of the execrable grad rates of Cal's BB team, my brother asked him how it happened. He said, no one cared, no one ever asked him what was going on, no one ever reviewed with him how his athletes were doing in the classroom. That no one included Barbour. She never once in her meetings with the BB coach raised the issue of the deplorable grad rates of his team.
So why don't you excuse her neglect by suggesting that she was only following directives from the top, the good German defense.. Says a hell of a lot about her character.

Why yes we had meetings with her, but I never did mention my guys needing more support, so she never did bother to ask!! I keep bringing dummies to the admissions department, and they keep admitting them , so what am I do?? You would think someone would tell me to recruit better kids, but no one ever did!!! When Mark Yudoff stepped down as the president at Cal, the new President decided that it was better to pay Barbour $500,000 per year to count paper clips.....just so that she couldn't do any more damage.
