PIAA Team state tournament begins today

Well, good for Waynesburg and Greene County.

Your post led me to look up info on Greene County; didn't realize the whole county has just over 36,000 population. They have had some hard times.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greene_County,_Pennsylvania#Demographics

I'm surprised they had so many people (24,000+) in 1860. That's about as many as were in Adams County (Gettysburg) at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg.

I wonder when they started mining coal there.

Wasn't Cary Kolat from Greene County?

I'm from IL, so I don't know PA schools well. Someone give me a team to root for and I will blindly and rabidly support them.
I think Nazareth is a team to like. They are coached by one the great PA coaches of all time, Dave Crowell. He lets his kids to play football without it being an issue. A few of there better wrestlers over the years have gone to private schools around here.

Cary Kolat, Coleman Scott, Drew Headlee, Gavin Teasdale. I’m sure there are even more big time names I’m forgetting. The waynesburg team this year has hammers all through the lineup too.

What weight did Reynolds -Notre Dame match start at.?
When Reynolds sent out girl, could of Notre Dame still won if they ran the table.
If not, I would agree it was Bush League.

started at 152, by 106, it was like 31-8 or something, ND got hammered well before the girl came out

they were ahead handily ...... then they forfeit to Crookham ..was a fitting bit of karma for Unger to get the best of Steen ...not a fan the coaches strategy .... Reynolds lineup is stout but rooting for them to get beat after watching that bush league stuff

State Duals format encourages this. Not only do they get the automatic 6 pts -- they get to rest a starter for the next round and not risk injury.

Nobody calls it bush league when a team up big forfeits 3-4 weights to save its starters for the next round. That happens several times every year.

Forfeiting when your ahead is one thing.
I don't know if the girl was on roster all year and if so did she see any action.
If the girl was put on roster the last few weeks, I still stand by my thoughts.

Before we go bananas...….there have been a LOT of forfeits once the dual has been decided. The team receiving the forfeit has sent out wrestlers just to allow them to pick up a win. If you have been watching all the duals you know this. Cunningham's son was supposed to wrestle 106 for State College but since the dual was decided …..someone else was sent out to get the forfeit win. Lighten up on the outrage :)

I wasn't that upset about it.
I'm the guy that supports the public schools within District 11.
I by no means am a ND advocate. I just don't like the rule and I don't like teams taking advantage of it, including Saucon Valley.

Line mountain
My Dad went to Line Mountain, well actually Mahanoy Joint, but my grandparents lived in what became Line Mountain School District!

just read the history of Line Mountain, started in mid 60’s when they combined Mahanoy Joint and Treverton high schools.

My dad has told me stories about how physical those coal kids were in football back in the 1959-60 window, including Mahanoy Joint. Dad was a 135 pound DE on a 5-6 man front at Millersburg. His sole job was to turn everything back inside.

Those singara boys were awesome wrestlers. Laudenslager kid was outstanding as well. All around great program

Go Dallastown!!!

(Who has no chance at the title)
And “our” present coach was in my class, and had a very wrestling sounding name — Dave Gable, Just picked up his 300th dual win this year after a few years off. His son Clay was NQ at Air Force last decade.

I use our loosely in that I haven’t lived in Dallastown for 30 + years.

Werent the shingara brothers from li,e mountain?

Since FLO has taken this over the least they could do is give live team scores per mat.

If the dashboard isn't working you can go to the brackets and click on the number (of the bout) to the right of the team names and it will give you a match by match breakdown of what happened. You just have to close it and reopen it to get the updates of each match after they finish. EX. in the AA bracket Westmont vs Chestnut Ridge click on the #13 and it will open up the match breakdown.

I call it bush league. It certainly leaves a foul taste in the spectator's mouth to see teams forfeit that much.

But then, while I don't object to women wrestling each other, I don't think girls and boys should be wrestling each other at all.......which will put me in the vast minority of people today. Thankfully, I'm not afraid to be a loner.

You dont think girls should be wrestling boys, yet you complain when teams forfeit to them?

Was the very next weight bush league when NDGP sent out a returning New Jersey state champ?

Perhaps it's all wrong. :D

  • High schools recruiting.
  • Benching a starter because they are not the right gender.
  • Forfeiting.
  • Non sequitur reasoning.
  • The flat earth model.
  • Unnecessary movie sequels and remakes.
  • Wearing socks with sandals.
  • Internet message boards.
  • Bulleted lists.

You'll want to root for Waynesburg. Small school in coal country that wrestles up. Very, very talented young kids in lineup. Home of Coleman Scott and Josh Koshchek. Always had elite kids, never pulled a team together to have a shot at the finals.

My Dad played football for Mahanoy Joint in 57-60 range. I believe he was a lineman, but not really sure. He was a farm kid instead of a coal kid, but still tough. Lost him a year and a half ago....

LOL apples and oranges. They didn't forfeit to rest their guy. They forfeited because of a dumb rule that doesn't allow NDGP to wrestle girls.

Considering they are a private school...no.

Well, Dallastown got through to the semis where Nazareth will roll like 50-10. Beneficiaries of an easy bracket. Still, a good job.
