have not listened to choice #2 or choice #3, perhaps I should as your 1,4,5 were on my considered list for top 5.

Live - Throwing Copper. For a band that largely underwhelmed there after, this album is quite possibly near flawless. No less than 5 high end radio songs and every track listens good.

The Offspring - Smash. Highest selling independent album of all time. Nearly perfected radio friendly punk songs before that became a thing. The big 3 are huge here (Come Out and Play, Self Esteem, and Gotta Get Away). Zero filler and even a fun Ska song.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid. The fathers of heavy metal, hard rock, alt rock, everything heavy. War Pigs is epic. Planet Caravan was trippy and prog. Everybody has head banged and air guitared to Iron Man. Paranoid was meant to be filler and turns out to be one of Iommi's best, memorable riffs.

ACDC Back in Black
Pearl Jam Ten

Never was too into Floyd. I do appreciate it.

Back in Black was played so often people tend to forget how good it was.

Paranoid was my first album. Definite classic not sure about a top 5.

A few for consideration....

Blood on the Tracks....Bob Dylan
Tapestry.....Carol King
Cat Steven’s Greatest Hits.....greatest allowed?
Aja......Steely Dan
Abraxas....Santana
I love Steely Dan's debut Can't Buy A Thrill. I'd probably have added it to my list had I remembered it.

Bob is a great mention too.

I won't disagree with anything you said. Saw Pink Floyd Animals tour in high school and it remains the most memorable concert I've seen. Played Animals and Wish You Were Here in their entirely plus some of Dark Side as an encore. Having said all that I can't narrow it down to one best album or five best albums. I can pick another five and consider it just as strong. So here it goes...

Best album, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, ranked a teeny tiny bit ahead of Animals

The other four, The Beatles - Revolver
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
The Clash - London Calling
Steel Dan - Aja

Ask me next week and I'd come up with another five.

Yes indeed. The dastardly @Obliviax has given us an impossible assignment. So many great ones, so many styles and genres. Coulda added some jazz like Coltrane or Miles Davis. Classical and chamber music. Great folk music, blues music and on and on.

No way to pick five. And the five will change with your mood or station in life. I will say that everyone will have a bias to the ones that were at the top during their formatives years of high school and/or college days. Music is especially impactful then.

Sergeant Pepper and Rubber Soul
The Turning Point by John Mayall
Aftermath by The Stones
Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
CSN by CSN

Not sure on order but feel like each of these are just lyrically/musically/artistically superior to most albums ever.

Beatles - Abbey Road
Hendrix - Axis Bold as Love
Talking Heads - Remain in the Light
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Radiohead - Ok Computer

Animals is a very good album that I have listen to more over the past couple of years than I have historically.

My major complaint with the album is that Gilmour didn't write more of it (I think in terms of Floyd talent it goes 1. Barrett 2. Gilmour 3. Waters). He only wrote "Dogs" which does have a great lyric: "You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to." He does (as per usual) play some great guitar parts on the album.

In terms of a top five albums, that almost impossible, as it changes from week to week. If I had to do a top five Floyd albums, I think it goes:

1) Dark Side of the Moon
2) Piper at the Gates of Dawn
3) Wish You Were Here
4) Meddle
5) Animals

It seems like the posts so far are more "top 5 favorite of mine" than "top 5 in the public's ears"....as far as my favorites....

1...The Clash - London Calling
2...Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
3...Shelby Lynne - i Am Shelby Lynne
4...Beatles - Rubber Soul
5...Bruce Springsteen - The River

I agree with you 100%. Love every second of it, even the long jams. The album has been very influential in my career, believe it or not.

When I was in college, somebody drew a mural of the starship enterprise firing a phaser into a prisim which came out at the Dark Side of the Moon album cover.

The Wall, Dark Side and WYWH I prefer all 3 to Animals. Its a good record, I just like Pink Floyds other material more. Saucerful of Secrets I like alot too.

All great music mentioned above but it's hard to argue that their are any better first track to last track albums than....

Let It Be
American Beauty
The Doors
Dark Side of the Moon
Led Zeppelin II
