Pitt - Syracuse Game Thread

Pitt getting flagged all over for defensive holding and PI....apparently they forgot how to play with perfect, penalty free form like they did against us...much like Iowa learned how to play flawless on the OLine against us a week after getting called left and right for holding against Michigan.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not rooting for Pitt, but looking at their schedule I can see them finishing 9 - 3.

My guess is that it was not a fumble, but that replay was not conclusive. it was clear the initial ref did not have a clue

Syracuse leaves the middle open all day for Pitt to run through it.

And Pitt squeaks by Syracuse with a little help from the officials. Worst conference in college football by a long shot.

Awful review on that fumble. There was no evidence as to where the ball was when the knee hit the ground. It could have exchanged on the hit as they were arm in arm

Maybe our close win isn’t as poor as some experts had thought..

I wouldn’t go too far. Pitt lost to Virginia and has barely beaten Delaware, Duke, and a Syracuse team that still hasn’t beaten a single P5 team this year. Their ACC coastal schedule is poor.

And yet, they have the potential to reach the Orange Bowl. Explain to me again why any team would schedule a tough OOC game?

Very true. The whole push at the beginning of the playoff implementation was for getting the best 4 teams and crediting teams with playing tough games. That quickly devolved into all that matters is staying undefeated or at most 1 loss as the prime selection factor.

Looking at Pitt’s remaining schedule every game is winnable. They have Miami (3-3), Georgia Tech (1-5), North Carolina (3-3), Virginia Tech (4-2), and Boston College (3-3). Miami and VT are name programs but are having down years.

The ACC Coastal is just a really bad division. Clemson has a cake walk to the playoffs every year.

Regardless of ACC opponents, Clemson is among the best 4 teams in the nation at end of year. Playoff most likely: Oklahoma, Bama, Clemson, OSU/Wisconsin/psu

All about perception. If they ride their easy schedule to an end of season ranking, people making important post season decisions might just consider a W over Pitt a feather in PSU’s cap.

Maybe, but I doubt it. The talk is pretty common now about how bad the ACC is this year. At the end of the day Pitt is still Pitt and no one in the playoff committee in Dallas is going to see them as a significant win (IMO).

They may not have watched Pitt or care about Pitt, but if there’s a #15 or so beside it come decision time, they absolutely can’t ignore it. Every little plus counts, and a ranked Pitt most definitely helps Penn State.

Seriously...... Clemson’s entire schedule will not include a single Top 25 team, maybe not a Top 40 team - if you go by those “power rankings”.

That is STUNNING.

It will be interesting to see how that “Committee” considers that - - - because there is no way in hell that they should be in front of any other undefeated P5 teams (and probably below a few with losses)
Clemson is the defending national champ. If they are undefeated they are getting in. Clemson looks similar to fsu after their last national championship in that they are missing "it" whatever "it" is I don't know. They look like a team going through the motions. But there is no way that a unbeaten, defending national champ isn't in the playoffs

The BCS committee should send a message to Clemson by leaving them out of the playoffs. Either play a decent schedule or not be considered. This year their schedule is no better than UCF's schedule last season. UCF was undefeated and didn't get a sniff at the playoffs. Clemson's schedule this year is a joke.

Yeah. I don’t see how Clemson drops out of the top 4. They are defending champs and have the longest win streak. They win the ACC unbeaten, their in.

Oklahoma’s isnt much better.

How would beating 12 unranked teams (probably 12 teams that may not be “top 40”) provide evidence that Clemson is among the “Top 4” best teams in the country?
Eye test, eye test, eye test is all that matters...we never left the BCS era.

I'd say you need to watch more football. Good grief, they trailed FCS Delaware in the 4th quarter and tried desperately to lose to Duke but Duke wouldn't take it.

And didn't Delaware lose to that powerhouse Elon by 35 the next week?

Is Elon a girls school?

Elon is 1-AA in Elon NC which is just outside of Burlington NC. They are in the same conference as Delaware, JMU, Richmond, and W & M.

The greatest thing ever would be for Pitt to beat Clemson for the ACC title. It would knock all ACC schools out of the playoff, and no one would give Pitt any credit for winning such a putrid conference. It would help the PSU SoS and possibly help them into the playoff.

Clemson scheduled South Carolina and A&M out of conference. They can't do much more. That's far better than what Penn State or most teams schedule.

If Clemson wants to be considered a big time football school year in and year out then they need to switch conferences. The ACC is a putrid football conference.

Pandaczar, lemonears, or mikemauti. I come here if I have a bad day just to remind myself that it could be worse if I was one of them. Such hatred.

It's not just that easy. They can't wake up tomorrow and join the SEC or Big Ten. I don't think they're deserving as of today but you have to give them credit for the non-conference schedule. Even Boise State still refuses to schedule two games like that.

Some stalker so obsessed with football that she makes a new a new screen name to post here... hint... it’s you!

One of the reasons I’m so happy is laughing at losers like you. Thank you for having such a miserable existence. Fail to Pitt!

Take a look at Clemson's 2019 schedule. They play zero teams currently ranked in the top 25. Zero. Nada. Not one ranked team. This should exclude Clemson from any chance at the final 4. If they go undefeated they should be slotted in the Military Bowl.

Based on what? Your opinion? Listen, I'm unimpressed with Clemson but they did everything they could (unlike teams like Boise) to put together a legit schedule. What's your stance if South Carolina beats Florida? Clemson will get credit if they beat a team that took down Georgia and Florida in back to back weeks.

I hope Clemson drops a game, or two, but if they run the table they'll be in unless Georgia wins out and LSU & Bama each only have one loss. Then we get 3 SEC teams.
