None of the above. Suriano an absolute hammer that’s been in college rooms for 2 yrs.

Lee is true fresh wrestling against his first good comp coming off a bad injury.

If Nick didn’t win I’d be surprised

If Lee wins he is way ahead of schedule. If he loses, could be that he just lost to better man that day, needs more time building strength, etc.

Only way HR should be concerned is if Lee reinjures knee or gets beaten down (which I don’t see happening).

My prediction...Suriano 5-3

I’d favor Lee having access to the best lightweight coaching as I’m told on HR and all those partners, if Suriano wins maybe Iowa City isn’t the best place for a lightweight . Can’t wait to find out the truth. I’m sure Lee will win with the coaching advantage as I’m sure nobody on HR would exaggerate this advantage

I think if Suriano vs Lee happens a half dozen times over the next few years, then fans of wrestling are the true winners, regardless of the match result.
Agree totally. In fact, add the possibility of Fix in the mix (hey, that rhymes!!), and 125 at the top will be tons of fun.

As far as this one bout at Midlands, if it happens, I'm going to sit back and enjoy it, regardless who wins.

As far as this thread, not sure I understand it's purpose. If one like it happened over on HR, some of you would be all over it, and not in a nice way.

Suriano tops Lee.
Development curves will determine future outcomes thereafter.
With Fix in the mix + all the other players, I would bet anyone on here a cheeseburger that Cruz won’t be winning another National Championship.

I certainly wouldn't pick Cruz but wouldn't have pucked him last year either.

One scenario in which he repeats this year: Tomasello and Whathisname are in the other half and beat each other to a pulp in the semis.

EDIT: I don't see Cruz beating Fix at the Scuffle either.

I’m not sure how Fix affects Cruz’s chances of winning another title. Fix is definitely staying in redshirt (unless Picc gets hurt) and Cruz is a 5th year senior.

Good point! And I still think Cruz would be lucky to win it again, but that’s just my thoughts. It’ll be an exciting bracket for sure and with a good deal of drama...should be fun!

One scenario in which he repeats this year: he's the undefeated #1 seed, Tomasello and Whathisname are in the other half and beat each other to a pulp in the semis.

I'm hoping for the scenario where Tomasello goes into the Nationals ranked third. Then he would potentially face Lizak, Cruz or Pic in the quarters, Lee/Nick in the semis, then Lee/Nick in the finals ....if he survives that gauntlet.

Indirectly ... losing to Fix could lock him into facing Tomasello or RU in the semis and the other in the finals.

I guess him dropping to the 6 seed and having to face someone like Bresser in round 2 is asking too much.

Lots of possible scenarios, although I don't think Lee will be part of any of them. Except on this board I haven't seen anyone that thinks Lee will not redshirt this season. Also, as of right now call me skeptical that NaTo will be 100% healthy and able to get down to 125 and be able to go a full 7 minutes come March.

100% agree with that. A matchup I will love to watch over and over again.

i cant wait for this match to occur Saturday night and for years to come ... along with Fix (who if he stays at 125 will get the better of the other 2 IMO)

Come on folks, a little bit of good natured ribbing of our Hawkeye brethren is half the fun of these boards!

Enjoy it! And if you're a Hawk fan take a little jab back at us. Hopefully, we are not too thin skinned to handle that.
I could do without the Iowa BS on this board and the Pitt BS on McAndrew. Just my opinion. Carry on

I would favor Nick in this match if it happens.
Reason, Lee with the injury of his knee and lack of
mat time and condition. Has had to spend to much
time on the rehab.
Watching Fix last week he is good real good but does
not seem yet to have the offense on his feet. He is
one heck of a guy to take down that is for sure will
have many 2-1,3-2 matches till he can get a offense.
Either way going to be fun to watch these guys go.
Natio if can get healthy enough will be a tough out
at 125. Espically if he can make the finals with a all day
after weigh in heck he be about 135-140 by nite time.

Good stuff. I haven't seen much of Fix yet. Not gonna happen, but would've loved to have seen Nato, Suriano, and the two super Frosh sort it out Friday and Saturday night in March.

You guys need a single evertything Iowa thread. This place is turning into a Hawkeye board!

Last I knew, Nick is a former Nittany Lion. Kinda like HR woulda coulda shoulda with Gross. BTW I do not have Spencer making the finals. I would bet you but still waiting for Tognelli to pay up.

I know a while back, I think when Lee gave his verbal to Iowa, I wrote I would take Lee over Hall in at PSU everyday or something like that. It was just my opinion at the time and a few ripped me i believe. NO disrespect to Hall, but Lee is a bonus machine and an animal. Hall is an amazing talent and a fine young man and we are all lucky to have him. But if Lee is healthy and stays hungry, who is gonna beat him ever? Maybe its too early to praise him this much. But damn there is no denying he is on a mission to destroy everyone. That Iowa lightweight room has took him to a new level.:D

Bresser is pretty good. It will be interesting to see how he does against Lee tomorrow.

He's been very impressive thus far, to be sure, but let's just take our collective feet off the gas pedal of the hype train just a bit.

Excited for the Suriano match tomorrow.

I think Spencer's biggest challenge going forward might be staying healthy ... he is a generational type talent and a lot of fun to watch and hope he has put the injury bug behind him.

Agree his tires have a lot of miles on them already. I really hope his injuries are behind him, as I plan to root for him in all things where it doesnt intersect with our lions.

Lee vs Suriano is intriguing. Using performances against other wrestlers doesn't work when predicting this bout. Lee is a point-scoring machine, Suriano stays in position and plays great defense. I get that folks use the point-scoring argument to make a case, but history shows is doesn't always play out that way. Set emotions aside, and it's likely a 1 to 2 point match either way, my thoughts right now. It's the old immovable object (Suriano) vs irresistible force (Lee) phenomenon.

I'm gonna sit back and enjoy it.
