Predict the punishments that will be handed out to the following folks:

  • Patriots Organization / Robert Kraft
  • Bill Belichick
  • Tom Brady

This isn't what would YOU do. This is what do you THINK the NFL WILL do. Closest answer to reality wins. Punishments can be both financial and games and anything else that would be on the table.

Goodell will add one more game to Leveon Bell's 3 game suspension.

Brady will get 6-8 game suspension.

Belechick will get nothing (no evidence he knew).

Patriots organization will get 6 figure financial punishment and/or lose draft picks.

Nothing, although how many times do you allow the Pats to cheat and get caught without actually coming down hard on them? Are they permitted to get caught cheating every few years without major penalty?

Personally, if it is repeat offenders like the Pats then the integrity of the game is at stake and you have to come down hard before people start thinking the games are rigged.

Shouldn't the fans be included, as well, after all the faux defenses we have been made to endure?

My favorite one was not on this board. It was a TV segment "re-enacting" the deflation in the bathroom. The re-enactor was fumbling around with a complete bicycle pump, rather than just the pin, and that made it look next to impossible to do in the alloted time. LOL. I wonder how many people bought that one.

The organization and coach will get nothing. Brady will be sentenced to a romantic vacation to Tahiti with his supermodel wife. The 2 staffers will be beheaded at the 50 yard line of the Patriots home opener.

Wanna try again Magoo?

The four
Colts balls tested each measured within the 12.5 to 13.5 psi range permitted under the Playing
Rules on at least one of the gauges used for the tests.

Brady suspended for the third preseason game the next 5 seasons.

If you actually believe there won't be penalties then you might be a little nuts or just not following ANYTHING. How severe they will be is the only thing up in the air. Given the infraction it's probably going to be bad or maybe really bad to the extreme. Brady lied repeatedly and this isn't the Pats first run-in. He might get anywhere from 4-8 games. Wouldn't be surprised if the Pats lose a #1 pick. The fines won't really hurt anyone really.

Brady is one of if not the best ever. Don't think this thing is a big deal. He should have just not made the blatant lies. It's what's going to cost him. QB's know their equipment manager and their equipment, ESPECIALLY someone as into every detail as Brady.

How can you penalize someone based on "we think he did something wrong put can't prove it?"

Wow, you and Kraft are really going to use that argument?

Obviously, Brady likes the footballs under 12.5. Pats prob turn them in under that and hope the refs don't adjust if a tick under. Hence, Brady being pissed the balls were over-inflated in an earlier game by the refs. You're absolutely sure Walt Anderson got them all up to 12.5 because he said so?

Brady lying is the biggest issue , when the Saints lied about Bounty Gate the Commish specifically indicated the lying and denial of the bounties where a huge problem and they were penalized severely. Brady looked straight at the cameras and said he had no involvement or knowledge about the deflated footballs. He is now proven to be a LIAR and a CHEAT. At Least 4-6 game suspension is appropriate for Brady.

Makes you wonder since they got caught cheating in a super bowl game a few years ago. Something about filming practices and knowing the other teams plays as they were called in the game. I can't recall which game it was. But, what other "cheating" have they done. It will forever tarnish their winning. Most will now assume they "always" cheat. But is it cheating if you do not get caught?

He lied about not knowing about the balls, he lied about knowing the equipment manager, and he lied about it after sending texts to the equipment manager indicating he was in the loop. Guilty mind, obfuscation, and guilty intent = punishment. GIven that the integrity of the game is an issue and given his lying to investigators, he should get 1 to 4 games, sans paycheck.

Well, Brady will always now be viewed as a "cheater". Fairly or not. Kind of a sad way to end a fantastic career. Many will "think" he cheated all the time and only got caught this once. Some will not care, but the tarnish will remain.
I do not really get the ball inflation stuff, is it that big a deal and can it really affect a game?

Deflation/infation of footballs affects the grip. Having a better grip obviously gives QB more control and should therefore increase accuracy.

I'm not seeing any of that. Wanting the footballs deflated does not mean deflated under the minimum. He said he did nothing illegal with the balls. A truth. He never asked that balls be under inflated just not at high end of scale. He wanted the footballs as low as possible. No where does it prove he wanted to break the rules. Take your pitchfork and shove it up your ass.

Brady suspended for the first 2 games of the season and the organization fined $250,000 dollars.

Patriots fans defending Brady today sound alot like mgkpsu defending ARoid years back. Of course we all know how that ended up.

I am no Patriots fan, but the officials should have realized something was wrong....

Let help you here. He knew the equipment manager (he said he did not). The equipment manager knew Brady liked the balls under inflated - below the legal 12.5psi. If Brady didn't know the equipment manager, then how the hell did he know Brady liked the balls under 12.5psi? Answer - Brady knew the equipment manager well enough to have told the equipment manager that he liked the balls under the 12.5psi. Therefore Brady lied during his multiple press conferences, lied to his coach, lied to Kraft, lied to the investigators, and thereby lied to The NFL. This is not a joke... he should get 4 - 6 games. The Patriots did not do all of this to even the playing field, they did all of these things to gain a competitive advantage over their opponents.

Now where do you want that pitchfork placed?

OK, would that not also "help" the other team's QB with his accuracy?

Each team is responsible for their own footballs. I believe that started in 2007. Hence, only the Patriots played with their underinflated footballs

Brady was giving the guy footballs that were autographed and shoes that were size 11 (uggs maybe?). He wasn't giving him that stuff to just do his job, he was doing it so the guy would go beyond his job. I think belichek escapes punishment but pats will lose some sort of pic.

My prediction for punishment:

Loss of 4th round pick

Brady fined $250k

Team fined $500k

Wild Bill fined $250k

Yep. Then there is that pesky record of Brady calling the equipment man at 7 something the morning after the superbowl. They spoke for an hour. Hmmm I wonder what they talked about?
