PSU-only Recruiting News

Updated the list. Hope I got the right high school.
Missing the Mirasola twins (2024).

Dice's spreadsheet (pinned thread) has all the PSU commits. I'd use Intermat for everyone else.
Nice. Future is bright. I was killing time since we have such a long off season, LOL.

So it looks like Iowa is now bringing the Ferrari’s to the heartland… Got Ant, in it for Angelo, is AJ soon to follow?

AJ isn't going anywhere until his sexual assault case is resolved. Anthony's legal case (two misdemeanors) is far from as serious as AJ's and the sort of thing that one can and should deserve a second chance from (and has a resolution date forthcoming), although certainly with risk considering past behavior. AJ is charged with felony sexual assault. If guilty, he is facing prison time and registered sex offender status. No school is going to take him with that hanging over his head unless there is a positive resolution for him.

True, though supposedly Anthony getting into a fight was the cause of their leaving Blair mid-year. So he has his own pattern of misbehavior spanning years, albeit not (yet?) as bad as AJ's time in Stilly.

More too it than that

How good of a football player is he? Is he on Kueter’s level and able to do both

He has few D1 football offers for a 2024 candidate. If Franklin offers him, it'll likely be as a preferred walk-on.

Wrestling-wise, he's another Nevills. He could be good in college, and could be out-athleted.

Also, he has not participated in offseason wrestling -- no Fargo or Disney or Super 32. He'll be playing catch-up against guys with freestyle experience like Mirasola.

Unofficially looks like we should start following the Williams twins.

I prefer our guys make weight.

We want NOTHING to do with these guys. They are notorious for quitting mid-match, looking for lungers, missing weight, in trouble at school...
I trust Cael.

If they're in trouble, either they won't come or they won't stay.

The rest of it is stuff that quickly changes in the room, or else they won't even get much time at Opens. At worst they're very talented practice partners who will likely walk on.

To even get invited to walk on they had better exhibit the willingness to get up and go again no matter how tired or how many times their ass has hit the mat while being taken down.

I got interrupted. Those kids with the proper mind set would benefit and develop in the PSU room, but the mental toughness required to first be invited then thrive in that environment is steep. If you have it the return on effort investment is exponential.

don't think they would or could ever make it in the room!

Anyone know where the PSU recruits for 2023 Willie's final big board landed? OSU board says Shapiro 1, Welsh 3, Rogtozke 15, Kilkeary 33, Cannon 35 and Herman 53
Barr is 3 actually, Ryder 8, Seally 11 on his p4p-not sure if that’s what you meant. He removed Shapiro from his rankings, has Welsh at 2 behind Kueter

There may be a more appropriate thread for this discussion (maybe the pinned recruiting thread?). Just thinking out loud.

Moved.

Curious why Shapiro was removed.

I'd throw it on the Iowa basketball thread but that's just me

It is odd that Shapiro is on his updated senior Big Board, but not on the multi-grade version.
On the senior Big Board it is Shapiro #1, followed by Carroll, Welsh, and Barr. Kueter is 6 and Kasak is 9. Gabe Arnold 19, Ryder Block is 26 and Braeden Davis is 46. Cael Nasdeo is 92.

Not Willie obviously, but it makes sense and is consistent with his rankings. The PFP is included with the multi-class "HS competition" rankings and wrestlers that are not competing in HS are removed, e.g. Kasak, Shapire, Castillo, Kyle Larkin, etc. The Big Board is a "recruiting" ranking where all wrestlers in a graduating class are considered.

As a side note, it is interesting to see the BNicolls assertion that the field is now level and that Iowa has recruited the best class in the nation was borne out with Willie's rankings. I mean who can argue against the #6, #19 and #26 recruits being the #1 class in the land?????🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nevermind that two out of the 3 are from IA, TnT + Morningstar + Inner Circle donations = virtually unbeatable.

Where was Jesuroga before he quit? They had the top recruiting class except that there's a chance that the top 2 guys in that class never wrestle a single match for them. LOL.

Jesuroga was like #7? Chittum obviously should slide in as #1 ahead of Shapiro and be a 7 star though.
Chittum graduated HS in December 2021. If we combine their last three recruiting classes, then maybe we are getting somewhere.

I mean if we are going to do it like that, we should include Sealey and Ryder in our commitment class because they committed within the same 12 month period as the 2023 guys.

Another kid from Iowa.

Hopefully, the level playing field will include a couple of top 10 kids from IA from here on out each year.
