With all this McIlwain talk about his like for baseball I have a very interesting question.
When a team drafts a kid they have one year to sign him or he goes back into the draft. This causes some teams to really take a kids college decision into consideration as to draft him or not.
Is there any reason why MLB does not change the rules so that a team can hold onto a kids rights for say 4 years as that is when his college class graduates?
A few examples.
Dodgers lost out on Chase Utley
Mets lost out on Roger Clemens.
