Is Kuhn in or does he have to win again?

Same with Keener? If he is wrestling for 7th, then given the allotment at 133, isn’t this a must win?

Thanks

Both need to win their next bouts.

Keener is wrestling for 7/8 with 7 allocations

Kuhn is wrestling to get the chance to wrestle for 9/10

keener beat thornton of pU 3-2 in the dual, which is who flo says he gets next match

lets hope he finds his O in the morning

I’d hope both do, last chance for two guys who have battled many years that would hurt them bad to not be able to go

I thought if Kuhn wins his next match, he's in. Isn't that the case? Who does he have tomorrow at noon?

No one shows a 9-10-11-12 bracket.

I’m making an educated guess he faces either:

8. Mattin (MICH)
or
9. Piotrowski (ILL)

I made up a bracket that makes sense to me, and seems to be what is wrestling so far. Mattin and Piotrowski were the two highest seeds out, they got byes.

Maginnin was 11 seed and wrestled Kuhn 14, again
Jiminez was 12 and wresteled Cray, again

Kuhn should get mattin and Jiminez Piotrowski, the two winners wrestle for 9 and 10.

I believe the four man bracket is set per the seeds. So, Kuhn being the 14 draws the "lowest" seed - Mattin

Keener is very, very likely to make the NCAA tournament, regardless of performance today. That said, you never want to put your fortunes in someone else's hands. He needs to have the attitude that he's going to take this 7th/8th match

@RoarLions1 i know you'll give a detailed recap later, but how is the venue, the town and general atmosphere at MSU?

fans pumped up this morning?

Fans I hang with are always positive. Far moreso than negative. Feeling is that we won't win, but could close the gap, being realistic.

That said, and I'm being cryptic here for a reason...there might be a bit of disappointment today, but it won't affect NCAA's.

The venue is wonderful, not a bad seat in the house, though we're on the 50, up about 20 rows.

Town is ok, though when I go to these events, the schedule is scripted, and we really don't see the town. Folks are friendly enough everywhere we've gone. One thing for sure...we eat well at these things!

The mini-tourney bracket arrangements have been so convoluted that I wouldn't be surprised if they suddenly announce it's best of 3 just after Kuhn beats Mattin. Maybe then he has to go back and wrestle MacGinnis a third time, just to be sure.

My thing with the whole bonus bracket situation is how little is shared with the fans on the process. The communication is horrible (in fact, non-existent).

At this level, complete transparency should be the rule.

No kidding. NCAA Wrestling doesn't do brackets like this (ex. re-seeding after each round).

And, the bye placements need to be fixed and not random any more -- give them to the 1/2 seeds with 2 bonus points.

B10 won't communicate its transfer rule that potentially impacts the national title, so why this?

To be fair, the conference tourney doesn’t reseed after each round either. This is only related to how to place out to 9. Its pretty obvious why they formatted this way....because two consolation wrestlers got a bye into the mini tournament and 2 unfairly didn’t. If there was a 16 team league, the mini tournament would have only been losers of the blood round (12). In that case, I think Kuhn would have drawn Piotrowski. So in this case, 6 is ok with me.

If it had been me I would not have drawn the mini tourney by seeds. I would have dropped the wrestlers straight back and inverted the losers of of consy first round. Piotrowski would have had Cray first and winner to Kuhn.

As to the fixed byes with 2 bonus; that’s how it used to be if the wrestler with the bye won the next round. People didn’t like that “unearned” boost. Maybe they could fix the bye and double whatever bonus you earn in the next round. Lol.
There’s probably no answer that will satisfy all of us.

Cowbell, how about a round robin that counts previous bout results, or does that add too many bouts?

Too many most likely. That would have given Carson 4 more. I think they outsmarted themselves by using seeds to make a new tourney. They literally could and should have treated the first round of consy as a champ pigtail and dropped them like a sub consy.

That would have rightly and fairly, by bracket rules, delivered a Cray Piotrowski winner to Kuhn and a Maginnis Mattin winner to Jimenez. I’m ok with the 6 but I’m not sure why they did what they did.
