Hall will be fine, he just wrestled a stupid match. He got caught up in the moment and was trying to hit something sneaky. Should of kept some space and worked from outside. Joseph needs a better gas tank and needs some technique from top, he wants to muscle kids like he did in high school. MM will not be AA, just can't score enough.Tries to score from counters, doesn't work in college. Suriano will be good tournament wrestler, big motor and doesn't get out of position. Gulibon would sure be better off at 133. Come tournament time, Nolf and Retherford will be champs. Nickel will score a ton of points and hopefully catch Dean in something crazy on a scramble. Team title will be 3 team race PSU ,Ok St.and be careful of Ohio St.

Jose might be wrestling with a torn meniscus. If he's not wrestling the way he was the first half of the season I don't think we'll contend for a title

He's 11-1 and ranked 4th in the nation. He wrestled a poor match at Carver Hawkeye against a kid who is better than people think, and still won. He'll be fine.

My concern about Ohio State is the bonus they'll get at 133 and Hwy. Snyder can, and will be a points machine. You're correct with your concern. I believe we will find a way, but it will be key to have it wrapped up mathematically by Hwy on Sat night in St Louis, because Snyder can hammer anyone right now, he's world class.

He's talking about Rodriguez -Buckeye 125er who is plummeting down the rankings due to a balky knee and a tough cut. His struggles really hobble the Buckeyes

To conclude my original post, and how I see nationals. I think we have 3 finalist, Nolf, Retherford, and Nickel with 2 wins. Two wrestlers finishing 3rd thru 5th, from a combination of Hall, Suriano and Nevills, with the remaining one finishing 6th thru 8th along with Joseph. I would think barring injuries that should put us in pretty good shape for team title.

I see Hall as a finalist. He took down some top people winning the scuffle. 1st dual match against a game opponent was being thrown into the fire at CHA.

I think Hall will be fine. Now that he is the starter he can focus mentally on being the starter. The uncertainty of his time so far is not the same as preparing every week to be the guy. Now that he is, I expect him to show us why his shirt was pulled.

Joseph just needs to pace himself. Comes out like Andrew Alton in the 1st period... but doesn't completely die.

You could be right about better pace. Hasn't happened every match, but I recall at least three matches this season where Joseph really slowed down in the last 3 minutes or so. Against Gunther of Iowa, he was just hanging on at the end.

Joseph needs a better gas tank and needs some technique from top, he wants to muscle kids like he did in high school.

Careful about using the "G" word with Joseph on this board ... you may be strongly reprimanded (and insulted).

I'm looking forward to seeing how Joseph fares against I Jordan. And how Nevills does against Medbery.

Also, a bit off topic here, but, B10 crushed us this year with putting our toughest matches on the road, three teams ranked in top 6 on the road, ouch. We'll be well tested going into the postseason.

Probably exhausted from chasing Gunther to the edge of the mat for 5 minutes. Funny how that wasn't mentioned on the broadcast

The scheduling "model" is fixed. Unless they (the B1G) go to a 10th conference match, our home/away schedule in the future is known. In 3 years, our schedule (x-tOSU) will be identical to this years. Next year at home is Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, and Purdue. Our rivalry team (who we wrestle every year) is tOSU, and they'll be at our place. The year after that is Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan State and Michigan.

Roar answer a question for me. A while ago I thought the coaches in the B1G were asked which team they wanted to wrestle each year. I thought Cael chose Iowa and Brands chose Penn State. So if my memory is correct, how come it is tOSU we wrestle every year and not Iowa?

Because the coaches don't control the scheduling. The conference can't make a workable schedule based on a poll of the coaches. If all 14 B1G coaches were asked that question, several would probably give answers of "Iowa" or "PSU".

Yes, thanks I do realize the schedule is fixed. I misspoke- what I've was trying to say was the way the B10 schedule lined up for us was a real ball buster, but certainly good to get our guys prepared.
Also, am I right that we will have an away meet for the championship dual series? If so, we could also go on the road to face the Pokes. Quite a gauntlet.

Correct. If we beat Ohio State, we almost certainly will be headed to Stallwater to face the Pokes on 2/19 (with a very outside possibility of heading to Blacksburg).

Gonna be a tough matchup against tOSU. Especially giving up 5 or 6 at 133. Need Jimmy magic.

Just wondering with some of our holes in our lineup could we lose dual to either OK.State or Ohio State and then beat them at Nationals with our upper end talent and point scoring ability.

The decision was all Big Ten, and the single most significant factor was geography. Here's the rivalries...

PSU and tOSU
Maryland and Rutgers
Iowa and Minny
Wisconsin and Nebraska
Indiana and Purdue
Northwestern and Illinois
Michigan and MSU

Absolutely...but I'd prefer you not call any of these kids that give their all, a hole. They're so much more than that, every one of them.

Annieat285 and I both thought PSU looked not so good last night. Definitely not at their best. Pretty scary when you are not at your best, head into Carver and more than double Iowa's score.

Win 125, 149, 157, 165, 184 with toss ups at 141, 174 and possibly 197. PSU gonna get bonus at least two, possibly all 5 of those weights. OSU bonus at 133 and maybe 285. I like Penn State's chances

Instead of using low "gas tank," perhaps some may prefer the image of running low on energy, from clouds drifting over his solar panel.

Roar, they're college kids 18-23 years old getting some or all of their education paid for to be an athlete. They should be able to take some criticism. I guess you would be the type to buy participation trophies for the team.

Or, Roar might be the type who things "has trouble getting out from bottom" is a criticism, and "is a hole" is an attack.

Perhaps their contribution and value to the room and the team far exceeds your perceived value in the end result. Hail to the kids that make the grind with almost no attribution but they continue to endure, for team, friends, self, love of the sport, competition...

When speaking of the term "holes" in a team formatted sport I personally think it reflects a potential weakness of the team. It doesn't reflect an athlete's character and positive attributes. My comment was met to be a fair description of our lineup.

Somewhere I mentioned that I thought 133, 141 & 197 could be holes . Add Suriano injury. We now see what can happen when one of the big 3 gets beat. No margin of error.

Why is Cutch in this conversation? And please don't say "holes". It's insulting to everyone reading it.

I've been through this before about the term "holes". It's a lot shorter to type than the urban definition for wrestling in reference to a tournament. It means :"a weight class that a team will not be expected to score many points." Stop being so politically correct. If you think we get much out of 141 or 197 you did not watch how those wrestlers performed against the better talent this year . No fault of either wrestler but they're undersized in height to finish moves. Depending on draw they might win 1 or 2 matches each at Nationals. Just the facts.

Here's the facts:

197 and 141 have qualified for nationals.

On NO wrestling planet is a weight class that can qualify for nationals called "a hole." None.

Further. The 141 has been an AA. Whatever you think, that can never be termed a hole. That wrestler will ALWAYS be called AA and he has the hardware to prove it. Wins and losses come and go, but Hardware lasts forever. Said from my coaches chair fairly routinely.

The 197 has already beaten the wrestlers that are also vying for AA and has been Rd 12 at Nationals. A loss last night to Pfarr....sheesh. So what?

Move on.

There are times I just want to give you a beer and say thanks, you said it for me. This is one of those.
