Cubs and St Louis both go down!!!
Fifth starter goes 5 1/3, 4 hits and a run. Bullpen was perfect. 3 2/3, struck out 7 out of the 11 batters.
Going to the game tomorrow night, Cole vs the Snakes. Arizona is not helpless but they are a losing club on the road and below .500 overall. If you're a contender, you have to make hay.
I gotta say - 9 game stretch against the 3 division leaders, went 7-2. I expected the Pirates to get obliterated and get shut out like 6 out of 9. Glad I was wrong.

Personally I like the Bob Prince exclamation : "We had Em all the way!"Great headline
The Bucs are 4 behind the Birds in the loss column. I keep saying, I think we can win the Division, but whether we do or not, the Pirates will be the National League Champions, not the Cards, Dodgers, Giants, or Cubs. If we don't win the Division, the Wild Card will beat the St. Louis Card.Good to see Pedro getting hot 'cause when he does, the Bucs go on crazy winning streaks. And with Polanco plunking them too....watch out red birds!
Big deal. Of course we beat the Mets. Of course we beat the Dodgers. They are not in our Division. So what if we're have the 3rd best record in baseball (1/2 game from 2nd best). We're just not very good.
With JHay and Mercer ready to return sometime is week, the Bucs are really deep off the bench right now. They can mix and match a bunch of guys down the stretch. The bullpen is now very deep too. Have to give Huntington credit with some key pickups along the way, without hurting the farm system much. Would love AJ Burnett to come back later in September, but not sure that is a must right now. They'll have their shot against the Cards and Cubbies head to head to possibly win the division and avoid the wildcard route again. Won't be easy, but this team is playing like true gamers right now, winning different ways with different guys contributing every game.8-1, WAS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!
Where would they be if not for the horrendous start to the season? Like last year those early swoons do hurt. Games in April and May do matter, despite what some may think. With JHay and Mercer ready to return sometime is week, the Bucs are really deep off the bench right now. Thanks GLOV. Hey, I've never been bashful with my opinions. Sometimes I have the nuts, sometimes I'm out to lunch. I'll admit when I'm wrong.I'm glad you were wrong too!
And I like you sir!
{Man-crush} LOL!!!

Neal is amazing, particularly when it comes to building bullpens. Bullpens year to year are the most ephemeral element of the game in my judgement. And he continues to have amazing results.I really think the Pirates are in good shape for winning the division. Like you said we are only four back in the loss column. We are also getting healthy. The depth in the bullpen is amazing. Caminero and Bastardo have really stepped up and it looks like Huntingdon knew what he was doing when he picked up Blanton.
And let's give a ton of credit for the great pitching(starters and bullpen) to Ray Searage.Neal is amazing, particularly when it comes to building bullpens. Bullpens year to year are the most ephemeral element of the game in my judgement. And he continues to have amazing results.
Gotta say, though, that five games back of a team like the Cards at this stage does not put them in what I'd call good shape for a divisional title. Possible, but still not probable.
Copy that and I believe that Searage is a big part of the selection of those pitchers. Searage tells Neal when he can make them better. And let's give a ton of credit for the great pitching(starters and bullpen) to Ray Searage.
Welcome back and not a moment too soon. We saved you a seat on the lead wagon.Never in a million years did I think that going 7 - 2 in the last 9 games was a possibility. Dibbs rejoins the bandwagon and the other news is that I will be at the old ball yard tonight to watch Cole stamp out the snakes.
