Rank our 6 best DTs in order

1. Curtis Cothren
2. Parker Cothran
3. Kevin Givens
4. Tyrell Chavis
5. Robert Windsor
6. Antoine White

Lots of pleasant surprises here. We are in surprisingly good shape going forward. I had expected more out of White. Givens is only ahead of Cothren now due to availability. Parker Cothran's effort is outstanding.

1) Mike Reid

2) oh crap, you mean current players.

With all the different players and constant rotation in-and-out and with everyone contributing, I honestly have no clue how to rate them!

We've got another good, albeit developing, 1-tech on our hands. He won't ever be as good as AJ, but he'll be decent in his own right. PC is our unsung hero on defense right now.

2. Cothren C

Agree with 21 guns, RW has really been coming on. For a last second desperation offer when other higher ranked kids turned us down, he has shown that stars don't mean as much as heart, desire and hard work. Stars are great but this kid was determined and driven to get the most out of himself. Can't wait to see him develop and grow. Great story.

I know a lot of people were bent about LJ SR leaving but Coach Spencer has done a fantastic job since coming here. He deserves a ton of credit.

What Spence has done this year, is every bit as impressive as anything LJ Sr did during his time here ( and I was always a big fan of LJ Sr's)

Given what he had to work with this spring (and then losing Carter).......it is amazing how well he has his group playing

Think about where these guys will be in 1-2 years.

Windsor - RS frosh.6-4 305 He moves well and his motor is awesome. He's also a pretty big kid for just a RS frosh.
Givens - RS frosh. 6-1 275 So quick and will add 10-15 more pounds in the next 1-2 years. He will be a force in the upcoming years.
Chavis - JR 6-3 298 Finally getting real PT and certainly has helped sure up the depth. Moves pretty well and will only get better next year.
P. Cothren - 6-4 295 Flashes some dominating play at times. Big strong kid who was a late pickup and still has another year left.
C Cothren - 6-5 285 Big kid that really moves well. His first step since coming back has been hard for teams to handle.
White -6-2 290 A little undersized, but has added good depth.

All 6 will be back next year. This allows Ellison, Shleton, and Thrift to shirt this yearand get bigger and stronger. They won't be thrown to the wolves early on like the guys ahead of them. Windsor, Givens, and White all have at least 2-3 more years depending on how they develop. Chavis, Cothren, and Cothran will all be back next year and all of these guys have played well at times. Picture these guys will another full year under the belt next year. Then you have Haley, Reid, Cabinda, Allen, and Bowen behind them. All along the younger guys are getting bigger and stronger and not having to be rushed out as frosh and RS frosh. Maybe you get the exceptional frosh you can't keep off the field and that is great, but core of DT's and even DE's with Sickels, Miller, Buchholz, and Brown have another 1-2 full years to develop and really take it to the next level.

A ton of people were very concerned because PSU didn't land that elite DT ala Wilkins. Sure he would have been incredible, but after the swing and misses the staff still landed kids that can play and don't quit. Kudos to Franklin, Pry, and Coach Chaos.

Coach Chaos is doing quite a job this year.

1. Parker Cothren
2. Robert Windsor (I love this kid and he's going to be a beast), probably our next AJ or Zettle.
3. Kevin Givens
4. Curtis Cothran
5. Tyrell Chavis I am really surprised at how quickly he's come on.
6. Antoine White

Bottom line is no superstars, just yet. But perhapst the deepest and best DL rotation in the Country.

What Spencer and Pry have done this season is nothing short of awesome.

I really like Parker Cothren this year. Hopefully he is ok after this weekend as he certainly has tightened things up against the run is a pretty big boy.

Ughhh damnit I got them mixed up. Thanks, I'll edit my post.

From a potential standpoint in limited time, Cothren being #1 is not a bad pick IMO. Cothran, Cothren, Givens, and Windsor all are getting much better. Cothren for being 6-5 has a pretty damn good first step and is pretty disruptive. I can see why they elevated him to #1 and why Bell was saying watch out for him this year during the summer. That dude is pretty athletic. People were very concerned about this position last year and heading into this year....RIGHTFULLY so, but these guys seem to getting better with each passing week. It went to a position of unknown to one of the deepest units on the roster.

Here is my rankings which I didn't do.

Cothren
Cothran
Givens
Windsor
Chavis
White

Yea its probably not fair to rank them because INMO there really isn't that much of a difference in their play.
They are all bringing something to the table.

Givens
Cothren
Cothran (although he could end up #1 with more playing time)
Windsor
Chavis
White

Really impressive work by the staff to develop a true, high quality three-deep - with no seniors! - by the staff considering the (fair) questioning of our depth at the position in the preseason. Spencer deserves a raise.

Agree totally.... These guys are really coming on and the thought of where they will be in 2 years is incredible. Their experience is progressing nicely and now they need to add strength in the weight room. To me that was the biggest difference between PSU vs. Michigan. Many 5th year seniors on Michigan vs. Freshmen and redshirt Freshmen at PSU. You could see the difference in size and strength across the Oline and Dline. Roles will be reversed next year and onward. Give our lines some time in the weight room and the last piece of the puzzle to PSU returning to the top 25 consistently will be in place.

Sure is nice talking about player development as opposed to the ND board where they're wondering why all their four and five stars are so "soft." Our kids play with so much fire and desire. Our entire DL was just swarming the Buckeyes in waves and our linebackers were like heat-seeking missiles blowing up every play. How refreshing.
