stillwater, ok
Dice, I have seen this there, but finally went out and looked. I think Spyker will be disappointed, as Carr isn't even listed.

Couple of questions I am sure have been discussed elsewhere, and my memory has just failed me. Notices several guys who have committed elsewhere on the sheet (Courtney, Renteria come to mind). Are you thinking that Cael and Co are still trying to change their mind, or?

If you want, PM me and discuss off board so if it has been discussed, we won't bore others. Although it doesn't really affect me, I think it is great you have done this.

Haven't updated it in a month or so, will do. I can't believe I don't have Carr on there, lol, I can't believe spyker has not pointed this out to me before. Every once in a while I go over the recruiting section of it pretty good - looks like its time for me to do so.

Pretty lousy full court press you're putting on Carr.

Carr came up to give his mom a kiss after his match. What I heard and saw really endeared him to me. Seems like he would be good catch wherever he goes.

Lots of kids practicing for their pics with Coach Franklin.

Carr- Dad went to ISU, brother coaches at Cornell, and and he lives in OH. What are PSU's chances? Do they really need another 57 with Joe Lee coming in?

I really liked PSU chances with Fix a couple of weeks ago til I saw the Flo videos of him rolling with G-Feller, his little brother, and his dad in his and G-Feller corner. I don't see him leaving all of them and going cross country to PSU when he has a perfectly good school, coach, and program right next door.

David Carr's Dad is an Iowa State and Pennsylvania wrestling legend.

Pennsylvania State University's legendary wrestling coach is also an Iowa State wrestling legend.

There are connections.

I will be more surprised if David Carr does not wrestle for Penn State than I will be if he does.

Realistically PSU could not sign anybody else the next few years and still contend for team titles each year. Insane amount of depth within the program.

Then again Carr wasn't one of the coaches' first 4 priorities for 2018, according to A2S as the OP in the "Sept 1 first contact day for 2018" thread.

Take this with a huge grain of salt as it comes from an ISU connection, but he has proven fairly accurate in the past. My clone brethren believe there is a very good chance of landing Gable S. and Carr. Carr, I'm told, will be a battle between ISU, tOSU,V-Tech, and PSU. Gable is between tOSU,Mn. and ISU. I don't like our recent track record in landing big recruits when going against the likes of PSU or tOSU, but there is optimism on the home front I haven't seen in a few years. I'm a realist and even I see some future smiles having watched some matches of a few of the recent recruits. I'm not exactly printing tshirts just yet, but a return to the top 10 or even top 5 seems reachable.

nice tidbits JPW3 thats great for wrestling if it happens! We need you guys relevant if for no other reason than it stirs the intrawebs up. Im not sold on KJ developing kids, but if he proves to just take uber talent and manage it, clones could be back in no time. IMHO he is right up there in the top 10 recruiters.

I share many of your sentiments. KJ is an absolutely great human being imo, but many of us don't like the development we have seen in some wrestlers. Ames is a small place, so he feels the heat. I have personally chosen to support KJ and hope for the best. I figure it will either work out or it won't. There is not the amount of support for the wrestling program most of us would like to see, so despite the great tradition we are not in a place any of us embrace. There have been MANY proud moments in Cyclone wrestling, not the least of which was watching Cael achieve perfection. Cyclone nation is fairly split between those who wish Cael success and those who don't. I happen to be an admirer and well wisher.

Says who? How many matches have you seen each wrestle?

Flo has Lee as the 2nd ranked non-senior at 152 to Carr and they are #1 and 7 overall at the weight. Seems like they're in the same area code.
One big difference is that Cael already put a full court press on Lee.

Well 152 is stacked at Super 32. Carr(1), O'Conner(3), Hovis(4), Glasgow(5), Lee(6) with Brady Berge also listed at 152 (#1 at 160).

Should be a great bracket.

Joe Lee is not even close to David Carr....
But Nick and Joe are a package deal. I'm not saying it would happen or go down like this but do you wanna risk losing Nick because you tell Joe he isn't good enough?

That's another reason I fell PSU won't land Fix. Fix knows he is the second option because PSU didn't land Lee. I think PSU is a little late to the party, but you can't blame Fix for taking them up on the free trip and hearing them out.

Thought what was suggested was scholly % could be an issue.

Could be wrong, but until young Carr announces he is going somewhere else I am continuing to believe chances are better than average he wears blue and white.

There's ALOT going for Okie State in the Daton Fix sweepstakes, and our coaches know that. What Penn State offers is compelling.

I'm not making the same connection as you between those two situations.

I don't disagree with your overall point about Carr and Joe Lee. However, using the Flo rankings (or any rankings for that matter) to support the point is kind of questionable. For instance, there could be a significant gap between the #1 guy and everyone else. Just too many unknowns to use rankings alone for that type of comparison, IMO.

Spyker - as always I love your enthusiasm, but this is really weak. And not even remotely true.

I'll pat myself on the back here as I've been a huge Nick Lee fan for a long time, in fact I jokingly posted that we got the "right Lee" on here a long time ago.

Joe may end up just as good as a prospect as Nick, he may be dealing with the realities of wrestling a more difficult weight class as an underclassmen than Nick. But I would not bet against him following Nick's arc.

There's more to judging a recruit's potential than just a ranking. Not that FLO does a bad job - on the contrary they do a very good one - but they also necessarily are heavily results based. Willie probably does the best job of ranking potential, but there is only so much of that you can put in a public ranking and still maintain credibility. Coaches are not hampered by this.

The above is not to say David Carr is not an elite recruit. He is. More to say Joe Lee is one also. He may be underhyped, but I doubt he will stay that way much longer.

Doesn't matter. You don't recruit athletes based upon who they are today. You recruit based upon who they will be during the 4-5 years you have them. And I trust Cael to make those judgments, more than anyone else.

Bad pro sports franchises pay their athletes based upon current production, not future projections. And they inevitably fail, because they misallocated their limited resources.

Don't fall for that trap.

Take a look at the rankings of wrestlers coming out of high school from previous years. Lots and lots of top 20 kids that just didn't pan out in college for a variety of reasons. I trust Cael is looking for the right kinds of kids that are going to continue to strive to improve and will make up the difference by the time they get to PSU. Not worried about Joe Lee AT ALL. He will be great. Same paragraph I wrote about Nick Lee a year ago when people were questioning him.

I would like to think that Iowa State is after Wittlake, Steveson, RBY, Carr, then add in guys like Teske, Real Wood, Jessen and there is just not enough money to get many of them.

We will have Downey and Pestano's money and I assume they will bank Mantanona's money for next year also. Just not sure who the top targets of that group is,

Agree. And Cael has the formula down after making a few missteps early on. Nick Lee was not a #1 a year ago but is undisputed #1 now.

Y'all misremember Nick Lee's career. Anybody would be foolish to have been questioning him. Entering high school, he was the next best thing to Spencer Lee. Then he had a couple losses, Fix and Yianni stepped up their level, and Nick had an injury. Nick has always been really, really good. Joe isn't at his level, but he is very impressive. Wins over Griffith, Gissendanner, Ramirez, Verkleeren, etc.
