America has been transformed since the reagan Administration. Before he was governor of CA, California had free college education for its citizens. reagan ended that, then brought his dislike for the young and the poor to Washington where he effectively gutted the Middle Class. He ended federal support for tuition because he didn't want to sponsor the intellectual curiosity of "brats who protest my policies." He was a very nice guy.

In 1990 the boomers (my generation) who were in their 30s had 21% of the wealth in America. Today Millennials, in their 30s, hold 4% of the wealth in America. Does that mean anything to you rightwingers? No, you will say it's the Democrats' fault. Be honest at least with yourselves. it was the republicans taking everything from the average people and giving it to the rich --- which of course was giving it to themselves at the expense of all those nasty blue collar types.

"Right to Work" laws passed by republicans around the country eliminated unions. They were really "Right to Work Cheaper" laws. In the 1940s, 80% of the workers who applied for a union were allowed to have one. Today, union busting is a billion dollar industry. Huge corporations don't want workers asking for livable wages. Better to pay for thugs to make sure those workers stay in line.

And you republicans are cheering them on, as the middle class goes away and is replaced by the perennially poor. Millennials can't afford to own homes. They can't build wealth. They are drowning in student debt.
And right wingers on this very site decry how selfish and self-serving they are. Kids how have nothing to look forward to economically because of republicans. And they can look forward to a decaying, brutalizing world where weather disasters will be totally commonplace.

But of course, republicans don't believe in science. Science tells us we may have to spend money facing a climate crisis that republicans refuse to acknowledge. And republicans want to spend less, less, less. More breaks to billionaires.

It really comes down to this: What's it going to take for republicans to start caring about their grandchildren?

You probably already know this, but 97% of climate scientists agree that the globe is warming. And it's warming much faster than their computer models predict. So, you republicans refuse to accept the science, even when it is obvious that global warming is in full blossom right now. Glaciers melting, wildfires across Europe and North America. Crazy storms. Sea levels rising.

And none of it makes an impression on the always right republicans. Okay for you, but what about your grandchildren? Are you going to continue to close your eyes with your fingers in your ears screaming "NAA, NAA, NAA"?

Why?

You start, sell your gas vehicle, rip out your gas furnace and go green. Then get the Hollywood lefties to give up their jets and gas vehicles and fossil fuel items and go green.
Then I will think about it.
But, you first.

Don’t forget how they pushed as many jobs as possible into foreign countries in the name of free trade and their regressive tax policies

Another complete moron who is certain that global warming is an issue.

But you moronic liberal arts major, you KNOW NOTHING.

You have no understanding of even conduction, let alone radiative heat transfer, cloud formation, and the rest.

Moron with an opinion.

How did all those INSANE and draconian long term lockdowns impact small/medium sized businesses aka the middle class? Newsome in CA ruined millions of small & medium sized businesses with his insane policies.

However your main gripe should be directed at the globalists who gutted our manufacturing base and moved countless jobs to off shore locations so they could enjoy slave labor rates. It's not left vs. right b/c there's a uniparty of establishment politicians on both sides who have been selling out the American people and mainly the lower and middle classes. Special interests corrupted both sides. This is why Trump's movement was so popular to so many people. He called this bs out and implemented policies that helped Americans not just special interest groups.

What helps boost the middle class the most is low tax burdens. Look what the tax cuts Trump pushed for did to the economy: record low unemployment, huge gains in wages, etc.

Do you realize that the U.S. spends more per capita on education than virtually every country in the world excluding Luxembourg.

More than Germany, France, Canada, etc.

Dear God.

Here's a guy who's quaffed deeply of the Wokeist Kool-Aid, which is why he's blissfully oblivious of the fact that it's the Dem-Mediacrats who've become the Party of privileged elites.

Republicans were once said to be "for the rich," and at one time they probably were, but now in a surpassing irony, they've become by default the only political hope of the average working person.

Dem-Mediacrats opened the border to a flood of cheap labor crushing the American Middle Class and illegal drugs decimating Working Class communities all over the country.

Their queen, Hillary, and the Clinton clique, which they lionized and sold their souls for, aligned with bankers, corporations, and oligarchs.

They blithely exempted themselves from the crushing economic burdens that their insane Green Regime would impose on the "little guy."

Their policies have drastically deepened the economic stratification and class divisions of American society, creating an almost feudal gap between haves and have-nots.

You have to be a total Useful Idiot or living in an echo chamber of clueless elitists (inhabited by most Dem-Mediacrats) not to have faced up to this.

you forgot how Japan killed the steel mills in the 80s. That wasn't Ronald Regan. It was globalization, although we didn't call it that then. After Japan, it was Korea. Then China. Now it is Vietnam, Mexico and Malaysia.

Do you think we should shut down the internet? Stop jets from flying to China?

Sadly, we are in the age of globalization. In fact, your party is championing it. Unions are kaput, worldwide, and have been for several decades. It isn't just America, it is worldwide.

Today, there are two divisions: people who take responsibility for their lives and know that they are the company. And clerks. Oh yeah, there are people in jail and the homeless but lets leave them out for now.

Truth to both sides . Reaganomics was the start . For comparison , Clinton was a globalist and that didn't help either . The machine keeps churning and the middle class disappears. America has been on a tailspin for quite a while . The rich keep cozy laws in place . Our government is has been and seemingly will continue to be bought out by corporate interests that can only benefit those whom afford to play that game. Broadly it is very simple . There are exceptions of course . Both parties have a hand in it. Who really is to say there wouldn't be inflation under Trump? Could he have handled it better , perhaps. Certainly seems it couldn't be worse. The lowdown though, how people can afford the ridiculous rents our conversely high mortgage rates is a complete mystery to me.

Quick question. In inflation adjusted dollars, is 21% "of the wealth" then more or less than 4% "of the wealth" today?

"Wealth" is not static. It is not a 16" pizza.

Here's another point you might want to consider.

In 1984, the minimum wage was 3.35 an hour. I washed dishes for it. How much is that 3.35 an hour today? I whopping 9.80!!!

https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

Today you can sack groceries for 17.50 an hour..... Sounds to me that low wage workers are getting paid pretty well.

Last point........... And it's a fun one.

Why?
Hhmmnnnnnn........

Carter = stagflation, economic malaise, globally weak.

Reagan = economic boom, had to create new terms like yuppies and McMansions to describe the massive success of the middle class, global powerhouse, the fall of the Soviet Union.

Bush 41 = continued economic boom until Iraq invaded Kuwait and energy skyrocketed sparking a short recession....which ended when Bush evicted SoDamn Insane. But damage was done and along came

Clinton = First two years so bad he lost both the House and the Senate to the Rs for the first time in 40 yrs. Then Newt worked his reform magic and housing and tech worlds exploded. middle class was wonderful.

Bush 43 = 9/11 changed the course of history. Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq yet he won two terms. Last term he didn’t push back against the press or the evil 🤡 party which led to

Obama = massive government programs slowed economy. Sparked racial divisions instead of helping unite the country and putting racism behind us. Sucked up to Putin and turned his back on allies to make a terrible deal with Iran. His sickening big government led directly to

Evil Orange Man🙀🎃 = did amazing things economically and globally ......best foreign policies since Reagan.....but since he was an outsider that dared show up the ruling class he was constantly attacked by them and their supporters. Despite the best attempts of our beloved superiors he thrived until......along came Wuhan, a year of BLM, Antifa riots followed by crooked elections.

A puppet installed called Biden so that the ruling class can resume it’s historical and rightful place on the throne.

Lets review......Carter, Clinton, Obama= poor economic policies performance and poor global outcomes.
....................Reagan/Bush, Gingrich/ Bush, Evil 🎃 man= excellent economies and strong global, results.

Obama maintained a zero rate policy for almost his entire term.

This provided for the explosion of private equity we had over the last 10 years.

Private equity did more to destroy the middle class than many of the other items and made billionaires out of those who levered up the government.

You have to be a total Useful Idiot or living in an echo chamber of clueless
Dems want free healthcare, free college, etc. They say we should be more like Europe. Here's some reality.

Income taxes:
Germany > $60k = 42%
France > $75k = 41%
Spain > $60k = 37%

USA up to $90k = 22%

Europe also has ~ 20% sales tax

Dems also don't want European Healthcare. They want American Healthcare for free with presumably "the rich" paying for everything.

P.S. Dems have sucked at math since long before they closed the schools.

Interesting that you mention Clinton. Yes, he was a globalist. BUT, he would not LIE about it like the current Democratic Party -- the party that tells its constituents that money falls from the sky.

I remember Clinton's response when asked about the loss of manufacturing jobs (paraphrasing). Basically said that it was a matter of education. In other words, Clinton knew that you could be paid only based on your production ability versus the ability of someone else in the global market. If all you are good for is a pair of hands, you won't be paid much. If a union forces you to be paid above the global market rate, then the business gets run out of business and the manufacturing ends up overseas. This is a basic market principle. I don't understand why Democrats find this so hard to understand.

This was a response by Clinton to his constituents expecting him to be a proponent of labor protectionism. He did not do it.

Nixon once said of Clinton: "He's too smart to be a Democrat."

And we know of Hillary's gaffe in characterizing Democrats, her voting constituents, as being "stupid."

And Clinton cronies were saying that we don’t need manufacturing as that was hard, dirty work for those other countries to do. Said the US will be a service and financial economy. Which means financial people make big money and the rest can serve them in hotels, restaurants, bars, retail stores, travel.....and they will shut up and like it.

You start, sell your gas vehicle, rip out your gas furnace and go green. Then get the Hollywood lefties to give up their jets and gas vehicles and fossil fuel items and go green.
Then I will think about it.
But, you first.
just read that the attendees at the climate conference will be dining on exotic cuts of beef and seafood all the while talking about the rest of the world cutting back on meat consumption.
Oh and there were 400 planes carrying the climate concerned to the conference.
Pay attention to what they do and not what they say!

Look what the tax cuts Trump pushed for did to the economy: record low unemployment, huge gains in wages, etc.

it's a boundless economic question..why would american companies, saddled with high wages and benefits, move their manufacturing to a country with significantly lower wages and no benefits ....when coupled with low packaging and transportation costs ....and the ability to sell more at lower prices to consumers , even think about moving their business overseas.
Let's raise the wages higher......wasn't there just a report out about decreasing productivity in the US?

to your first paragraph...democrats believe that when you pay higher wages , in order to keep up with market you either reduce executive pay or profits. They've been saying this for decades, it never happens that way, but it doesn't stop them from saying it.
Somehow they can't get the concept that money searched for the highest return. I sometimes think folks like the couger, maypole, et all keep their money in a money market fund paying .05% interest

Why do Gore, Obama, etc have big homes on the coast? Aren't they worried about sea level rise?

You know what I think is messed up ? When did being the POTUS turn into a money printing press? Clinton family certainly cashed in. One could say the Bush dynasty sure did also , with dickhead cheney doing it the old fashioned way with haliburton . By Obama to me it was set in stone that presidents would all join the hundred million net worth class. Don't even ask me about trump and his motives : trying to make his family a dynasty . Anyone who thinks we should have michelle obama ????????

Screw all of these thieves . Anymore POTUS means chief thief..........
