Rock and Roll HOF Inductees

She is in as a songwriter, not an artist. Her album Tapestry was the best selling album in history for quite a while. She should be in as an artist as well.
That is the result of her songwriting skills far exceeding her skills as a performing artist. She had one album that did well with the rest of her performing body of work being mediocre at best.

I think it will be a long wait before she is ever inducted as a performer. Album sales don't necessarily reflect quality, otherwise there would be Milli Vanilli, Spice Girls and much more trash among the inductees.

LMAO. This coming from someone who thinks the Sex Pstols are great. Puke rock.

Ahh, Tapestry was not trash. It was terrific stuff.

Somebody needs to explain how KISS rates then if it isn't album sales, because they are certainly not in due to having any musical ability, and their songwriting is moronic at best.

That one is a head-scratcher. One possible explanation that it may be due to the innovation of a sub-genre, but even that is a bit of a stretch.

It is spelled Pistols.

Even if you do not care for their music, no one with any knowledge of the evolution of R&R can argue their influence and innovation. It spawned a movement that basically destroyed disco and prog rock. End of one era, beginning of another. Life goes on.

I personally despise disco but I'm objective enough to recognize it is a valid genre, there were some innovative artists involved, and it was popular. Same with prog rock.

Country Music is the soundtrack for domestic terrorism.

So you are willing to cite how Joy Division influenced these artists but ignore how bands like Yes do not influence artists? Sad

Not sure what this means... Are you saying 'Yes' wasn't a musical influence to anyone? I get you don't like Joy Division, and that was the only band I was commenting about. I do not have much familiarity with Yes so I don't have much to say about them.

Of course they werent. According to him Rick Wakeman is garbage.

Oh and BTW the only movement the sex pIstols spawned leads to the sewer.

Alright - after watching the "Wrecking Crew" documentary, Brian Wilson stuck out the most. He and Micky Dolenz (of all people). Because they told the truth.

Just listened to Pet Sounds start to finish w/ really good sound quality and quite loud.

Jimmy Webb said that George Martin told him that Sgt. Peppers was an attempt to maybe equal Pet Sounds.

What people (many still to this day) don't understand is that the Beach Boys didn't even think of playing their own instruments on this album. All wrecking crew. Hal Blaine is in the HOF, but Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, and Glen Campbell, and many others are not.

They all should be in. They actually played the music!

I was just looking to see who isn't in this so called HOF.

Deep Purple and Jethro Tull lead a long list. I didn't even look for other great bands like Savoy Brown or Wishbone Ash- I'm sure they aren't "in" either. No Dick Dale either. Seeing that and seeing some of the pop acts that are in, there seems little value to me to being admitted.

Agree with NItt1300... and in addition to Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, and Savoy Brown, I'll add Steve Perry and Journey and Boston (aka the Tom Scholz show).

Emerson Lake & Palmer, King Crimson, Asia . . . a lot of successful and hugely influential Prog Rock bands not where they rightfully belong

Yeah, ELP should be in. That immortal "Love Beach" album is a masterpiece, that alone should have been ample proof they belong.
