Welp, I'm out. I watch football on Saturdays now. I know Philly's symphony and opera aren't as good as Pittsburgh's (tic Phillys are amazing, great way to impress a girl) but I will find something else to do on Sundays.

Is there any legit reason why anyone would care?

FWIW, the PSU squad isn't even on the field (IIRC) during the National Anthem
Does anyone care?

probably just do what the soccer team did, and just change the time of the National Anthem. I don't even remember on a regular Sunday game they show the playing and singing of our national anthem on TV. I don't recall

It' 9- 11 on Sunday, if you can't respect our nation on that day perhaps the US shouldn't be your primary residence. The key word here is RESPECT.

The flag is not as much a symbol of the US,but a symbol of those who died for it.
But people shit on it,wipe their ass with it ,burn it, and they are backed up by supporters who view them as some sort of cult hero.

I'll say this --if one of these MFers goes down and players are holding hands, i just "ain't" feeling it , might just crack a cold one and tap the TV.

They also make hideous clothing based on it. I find this more offensive than kneeling for the National Anthem.

Just think of all the crime and oppression that will be down tomorrow because of these "heroes."

I never understood people thinking it was appropriate to turn the Nation's Flag into clothing. You can print a flag on it, but you should never do something like in KnightSlayer's post. That is disrespectful. And then putting words on it...

I believe the US Code actually prohibits using the flag as an article of clothing.

Yep, 4 U.S.C. Sec. 8.

A friend of mine poured a nice cold bucket of reality on me the other day regarding Colin. This is the league and its fans who readily embrace rapists, wife beaters, murderers, drug dealers and other assorted sociopaths...AND THIS IS suddenly the issue that is intolerable?

GMAFB!
Yep.

Some douchebag NFL players not standing during the National Anthem......and our "national culture" thinks this is an "issue"

Oh....the HORROR!!!!!!!

Does it seem that a lot of interest in the NFL is driven by Fantasy Football? I would rather watch just about any college game than an NFL one - I have a hard time relating to these players since they change teams so often and the whole thing seems so over produced.

Last year the NFL promoted Draft Kings and the like more so than any other 10 years combined. I think FF is a major reason people pay attention the NFL anymore and the brass realized that.

That's exactly it. There are those who would destroy nationalism. its one there mantras. Thus a non sequitur protest against the nation over local police tactics.

Pathetic. The NFL is in danger of losing people over this if they don't take action

Interesting that most of the discussion focuses on Kaepernick's behavior, the act(s) of sitting or kneeling during the Anthem, not the issues to which he wants attention drawn. I'll be generous and give him a C-.

Whomever it is that supports the NFL.....we KNOW that they are more than happy to cheer on their "uniforms"......
Even if those uniforms are worn by wife-beaters, murderers, rapists, etc......
We KNOW that to be historical fact.

But NFL Fandom is gonna' walk away 'cause Colin Kaepernick is kneeling during the national anthem?
I guess so long as that dumb, fat, former ND lunkhead - and his sexually ambiguous jock-sniffing partner - yap about it for 30 minutes on the radio each morning, it will remain a "World-Changing National Issue."

PFFFFFFTTTTTT

The next time some wanna-be "celebrity bimbo" experiences an "accidental" cooter-flash, this will be yesterday's news........while everyone gets all jiggity over the issue of "Celebrity Cooter Flash: The Breakdown of the Moral Fiber of America"

When a society spends more time consternating about side-show freaks (Caitlin Jenner) than about the real issues we face
When we feel the need to reform national policy to determine which pisser should be used by a penis vs a vagina
When we have an electorate that will select a POTUS.....with no more consideration and thought given, than what it takes to look at a Facebook MEME

And we wonder why real impactful issues remain FUBAR?

Really?

But, yes indeed, lets make sure dicknutz Colin Kaepernick remains a relevant national issue.

Meanwhile, 15 years after "9/11", we've still got 10,000+ troops over in Afghanistan - trying to "stabilize" a regime that is nothing more than a Heroin cartel. (Just one of 317,000,000 issues that should be receiving more attention and concern than Colin Fing Kaepernick)
But it is so much more intellectually easy to view Colin Kaepernick, and his douchebag buddies, as the #1 societal issue of our day.

Super!

plenty of flag-wavers out there wearing flag-themed sweaters/hoodies/bandanas (probably made in Bangladesh), standing for the national anthem, reciting the pledge of allegiance shouting "UNDER GOD" and still managing to be a hateful, pretty shitty American... Just like so many of those ding-dongs who brag about going to worship every Sunday and citing scripture to impress lecture and condescend - only to be, in reality, hateful, shitty human beings... In the grand scheme of things, kneeling for the national anthem isn't an earth-shattering event, doesn't immediately define someone as unpatriotic... There's a pretty noble, powerful extremely American concept known as peaceful, non-violent resistance ... Get over it

As for the original post, I'll believe it if/when it happens. It's hard to imagine EVERY player will sit. I'm sure there are some players who had a close relative serve in the military and they'll stand to honor that relative. I realize the point of sitting has nothing to do with the military but they'll still stand to honor the flag under which their parent/sibling/grandparent fought.

I'd like to see the Bears honor the emergency room docs, nurses and surgeons some game. These folks are incredible heroes in saving lives in that city.

Turned off the Broncos and Panthers after Brandon Marshall didn't stand. I won't watch a game when that happens.....it's my right.

Sorry, it's a violation of my right to be entertained. When we turn them off and the values of their contracts fall, we'll see how dedicated they are to their cause.

I can't help but wonder how many of the people feigning outrage over this are the same ones who never bother to take off their hats and salute the flag (or even stop talking) when the anthem is played. THAT is disrespect. That is what pisses ME off.

Making a protest is one of the most important things that that flag protects. That I can respect, even if I disagree.

And which amendment is your "right to be entertained"? Lol.

They have a right to be assholes. We have a right to tell them to go to hell. I never watch the league anyway.

Everytime I see that family photo of "Colin" Kaepernick, I just see this kid...this young kid, with this freakish athletic ability, who suddenly becomes wealthy and famous and wanted by so many beautiful women, and he simply can't handle it. Sorry, I see this young, confused, kid who can't handle fame and wealth. Just me, I suppose...

Yes, I realize he is adopted, that's not my point. I see a young kid who was raised in a safe, middle class family home, with this freakish athletic body and build, with this superhuman strength and speed, who simply can't handle fame. He has nearly been arrested 3 or 4 times BEFORE this latest thing, is known in the Bay Area to be a porn groupie for the A list porn stars, and on and on...I think he just has problems growing up and living in the fishbowl.

Salute the flag? I thought civilians or plain clothes removed their hats with their right hand and hold it towards your left shoulder so your right hand was over your heart. Military and Police in uniform leave their hats on and salute. Veterans are allowed to salute. If you are carrying and plain clothes, you are also supposed to salute. I was always under the impression Joe Smith and Jane Doe were not allowed to salute.

I don't have a problem with what Kaepernick is doing because he appears sincere. He is trying to make a difference but IMO could have chosen a different path. He is donating his first million and any money that he would get from his jersey sales. After NBC showed Marshall, I am wondering if some of the players are doing it for camera time.
