Rumor on Nebraska Board about BOB…..

good fit for the huskers, IMHO. Hard nosed, no-nonsense guy. The downside is that, if he does well, he'll leave for the next NFL opportunity. But, beggers can't be choosers.
Yep. He is a great, quick fixer. The next hire after him is key. Suggestion to UN, don't hire guy that is a QB loyalist, one that always focuses on stats and explosive plays while forgetting about the lines.

I would be very careful with BOB. He knew he was a short timer here and even with the sanctions left the cupboard pretty damn thin.

Seems like Auburn would be a better fit for him (unless he / them have a thing about where he currently is). Better athletes, better recruiting area, better job. I might even wait to see what happens at ND after this year. Doubtful they get rid of Freeman after 1 year, but they clearly made a mistake there.

I think Bill gets back to the NFL though....Denver looks like it might be open after the season, Carolina, Detroit, Arizona, Chicago, Washington & Dallas...all potential openings.

I really don’t understand this fascination with BOB. He did an OK job here under some extremely difficult circumstances. Would I ever consider bringing him back? Hell, no. He’s not a recruiter at all and in today’s college game, recruiting is 75% of the battle.

He a great offensive mind. If he can get a great staff/DC he could do great. But the recruiting part will be a big question mark.

With the portal as it is, and with NIL money he could buy what he wanted and thus leave the recruiting to fend for itself.
I think that is what eventually happen with everyone. The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.

People see a guy who is smart, hard nosed, and a Winner.

But if he doesn’t want to recruit, that’s it, can’t work.

If Franklin's idiotic contract weren't an issue, I would gladly dump Coach Hype to the curb where he belongs and bring back O'Brien, even if it were only for four or five years. It would be worth it.
Would be interesting to see how BOB does without the extreme sanctions, without people transferring out by the dozen, without all the terrible media and the turmoil and distractions and infighting and anger and taint.

Not here necessarily but at any major program. Did amazingly well here despite the bull sh!t.

For all the criticism CJF gets, and some of it is warranted, I agree, no one can say the man doesn’t work his tail off on the recruiting trail.

ND's mistake was letting Brian Kelly leave, IMO. They will probably cycle through 3-4 coaches before they get back to that level.

Given that a large majority of the most impactful recruits during the Franklin era came from O'Brien's pipeline and the simple fact that the core of Franklin's best teams were built almost exclusively out of O'Brien's Lions he did fairly well given what he had to deal with, and unlike Franklin, had to actually deal with negative impacts of the sanctions.

Your first two premises are false.

So a guy who doesn’t like to recruit or deal with crazy alumni, going to a place that’s hard to recruit to with crazy alumni?

Let me know how that works out.
Truthfully--dealing with Nebraska and their alumni is easier than him having to deal with the ghost of Paterno and the BOT wanting us sanctioned.

OB is a very good no nonsense coach, both in college and the NFL.
Compromise: Maybe demote Franklin to Head Recruiter, keep him on staff and pay his big salary?

You keep repeating this nonsense. O’Brien had the benefit of Paterno’s left over players for the 2 years he was here. Anyone with a brain who doesn’t have an agenda knows that sanction years 3 and 4 would be the most difficult because the scholarship limitations would kick in. Stop the BS.

Yeah sure and the moon is made of green cheese. O’Brien hasn’t won a single championship as a head coach. Period.

Well, at Nebraska he’ll be dealing not only with the ‘ghost’ of legendary Tom Osborne but the actual live guy interfering behind the scenes. As their rotating carousel of coaches show- he wouldn’t last long there.

I don’t think anyone questions his work ethic. It’s the on field results that people find lacking. For a guy that’s supposedly a top notch recruiter, we sure have serious deficiencies on the Offensive line, Defensive line, linebacker, wide receiver, etc.

Obsorne's been gone long enough that's it not remotely the same.

Except for the undeniable fact that it is 100% true. Franklin set up Coach Hype quite nicely. He mitigated 90% of the impact of the sanctions before leaving and left Franklin with a team most expected to challenge for the playoffs in 2014. Too bad Franklin and his clowns ran the team into the ground.
