My 29 year old son has lost more members of his high school class, due to opiods, than I have lost totally from my class of ‘81....Months ago I commented on a thread about our society not just being in a pandemic but also a horrible opioid epidemic. The situation is not being dealt with. It is devastating the young generation.
The misnomer that some of the public has, is that the problem only involves a certain sect of the population. The drug problem affects all walks of life. I know this because of my profession.
It just is more upsetting when you know the family involved.
My son has O.D. twice in 2 years. Thankfully he hit his rock bottom and lived. It puts the whole family in jeopardy. RIP young man and I pray for those left behind to deal with this loss.Prayers to Mikey's family and those who loved him.
Wishing your son continued recovery. My son has O.D. twice in 2 years. Thankfully he hit his rock bottom and lived. It puts the whole family in jeopardy. RIP young man and I pray for those left behind to deal with this loss.
I knew the events of how the situation played out before the story was written. The timeline is even sadder than Racciato overdosing. He was taken to the ER on Christmas Eve for an OD, was discharged that night, met his dealer in the hospital parking lot, bought more fentanyl, and was found dead on Christmas morning.
if anything the legislative and judicial branches have made the situation worse. The emotional toll that no school, no sports, no travel, no interaction w friends, nothing to look forward to is driving kids to drugs and worse.I knew the events of how the situation played out before the story was written.
The drug epidemic in our country is terrible. I know this because of my business which deals with the aftermath of a families loss.
The addiction affects all walks of life and family values. Parents and love ones can try to intervene but sometimes it is to no avail. A portion of the public think the opioid issue is not being in the main stream of society.
It is .
Legislative and Judicial branches have done little to help the situation.
The Fentanyl coming across the border supplied to Mexican cartel's by China has to be stopped. To many US citizens are dying every day from Over dosses from the trash the cartels are selling as opioids..
Your right. As horrible as it sounds, make it all legal and only prosecute crimes against people and property while using drugs. If it is legal, people could buy the drugs at the local pharmacy where at least they would know what they are buying instead of buying something on the street where the quality and what exactly is in it are not known. Alas, if this was done, some political critters would probably lose a cut of the illegal drug trade costing them money, no chance it happens. We have been fighting this war on drugs for how long now? Forty years? It hasn't gotten better, probably worse. We have lost this war on drugs. What we've been doing for four decades isn't working. It's time to find another approach. And while I don't know exactly what that is, I do know if we continue to just do what we've been doing nothing is going to change.
There are a whole lot of fine upstanding folks who are not going to put up with legalizing drugs, and their motivation has nothing to do moral conflict.Your right. Plus, legalizing fentanyl would be beyond stupidThere are a whole lot of fine upstanding folks who are not going to put up with legalizing drugs, and their motivation has nothing to do moral conflict.
Drug money has polluted society from the tippy, tippy top all the way down to the guy doing oral favors in the men's bathroom for a fix.
Maybe. Legalizing all drugs may actually eliminate the need for fentanyl at all if you could buy oxys or something at the drug store for a fix instead, since the fentanyl is mostly used as a cheap ingredient in the mass production of the illegal narcotics. This is kind of a cynical analysis, but there is evidence from CO and other places that have legalized cannabis that opioid abuse decreased as people switched to the legal pot instead, so rather than being a gateway, pot appears to instead be a substitute for a larger segment of the abuser community, and a much safer substitute at that. People don't WANT to be addicts and throw their entire lives away until it kills them, it just happens that way because of their disease, and I do think legalization would give us more avenues to help more people get OFF the really dangerous stuff before it's too late.Plus, legalizing fentanyl would be beyond stupid
Daton Fix still will, if it's his dad's milkshake. If we have more weight classes at the Olympics, then I won’t start taking illegal drugs!

For the fine upstanding folks, they need to get off their high horse and deal with reality. Illegality of drugs is not preventing people from using them, people who want them get them. I fully recognize the horrible behaviors and crimes that result from the drug trade and people needing to get money to buy drugs. I also recognize that their are a lot of deaths from overdoses and cities are shooting galleries from the drug trade. Make it legal and those problems will be reduced. There are a whole lot of fine upstanding folks who are not going to put up with legalizing drugs, and their motivation has nothing to do moral conflict.

make it legal and the crime to gain the funds to purchase will still exist and get closer to your front door. For the fine upstanding folks, they need to get off their high horse and deal with reality. Someone famous said something about doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity...we have 50 years to verify the current approach is insane.
that's a generic statement. I had lots of drug education in the 70's (via school) telling me a lot of bad stuff regarding drugs... didn't stop many.... For that matter look at DWI - we need to educate better or have stronger knowledge of right/wrong...The United States needs to a better job in the education department in a whole range of problems in society, the "War on Drugs" is a perfect example of failed policy, sadly there are many more areas to approve upon.

Not if you make it cheap enough. That assumes that making it legal will cause more people to use and abuse drugs, that is not necessarily the case.make it legal and the crime to gain the funds to purchase will still exist and get closer to your front door.

No need to drag WildTurk into this.
Sorry for your loss. It's just terrible. When you were young you mightve smoked some pot in high school but that was about it. It's like these hardcore drugs are the kids pot now. It's so sad and it's all about the mighty $$$As I noted above, the drug epidemic is real and has gotten worse since Covid. We got notified last night that a 25 year old that we knew since he was born died from drug overdose.
His mother was friends with my wife. They went to same high school. The mother passed away in 2019 from cancer.
It was at that point her son escalated in sliding down a dark path.
I had mixed emotions if I should post this being a non-wrestling issue. However, I felt that if one person would read it and benefit from it then it was worth it.
RIP Joey.
