Sammy Sasso shot

Hero is a good word. This is Tom Ryan at his best.

Never had a dislike for Ryan. He recruited a kid from our area when he was at Hofstra. I talked to the kids father and he said Ryan was a good guy. The word he used was genuine. The kid decided to go to a different university because of his degree/career choice.
My guess is when Sasso is done he will stay in a position at Ohio State or Club. Numerous coaches have put a Lehigh Valley kid on staff.
Snyder at Nebraska, Labriola at Rutgers. If you include Faith Christian and Wyoming in the area, their is going to be a lot of talent coming out after this year..

Fact: Ryan is an all time good guy.

Who occasionally will either publicly say something or post something that warrants making fun of. Especially considering he is a Buckeye. Thank God he didn't take the Pitt job. Despite Pitt not being much of a rival at anything other than Womens' Volleyball anymore i am afraid we would really make fun of him then.

Nice to see the kind comment from Mark Hall also. I am sure Sammy will get a huge and well-deserved standing ovation at the end of his last college match.

I'm hearing that Sammy wants to go home after he's done at Ohio State.

Best of luck, Sammy. Your drive can take you many places.

I really hope they honor him in some way at B1Gs even if he is not wrestling. He's been a great B1G champ over the years.

I got goosebumps in November, 2024 when hearing that Sammy took the mat, and every time this season after that when his name was mentioned. It is impossible for anyone to relate to his story, except for maybe a select few. It saddens me a little that we won't see him on the mat (wrestling) in Evanston, but somewhere along the line he should get a mention during the tournament. It would be fitting that fans get a chance to show their appreciation there and in Philly.

I had a chance to speak with Sammy personally at the CKLV tournament. I told him that a lot of Penn State fans were rooting for him to get back on his feet and start wrestling again. He really appreciated hearing that. Seems like a pretty decent guy. I sure wish him well with whatever he does next.

Missed this before ... but both perps have pled out.

The shooter was charged as an adult and took a plea deal about 3 weeks ago, with sentencing in April. The other perp took a deal earlier, and will remain in juvenile jail until she turns 21 (probably about 4 years).

Both sentences should have mandated at least one full practice in the Buckeye room.

I couldn't imagine the sacrifices Sammy made to get to that point in life where he's inches from his goals to have them all taken away for a stupid crime. The best part about this is he's not getting away from the sport and he's going to give back by coaching. He's going to have perspective and gratefulness for these kids. God bless him and good luck. I'm rooting for him.

F that guy 10 years huh...
Makes me so mad....that POS will be out in his mid 20's or earlier with the rest of his life to live for trying to kill someone. Keep in mind Sammy could have easily died had he not been literally minutes away from a Level 1 trauma center at Ohio State.

Our criminal justice system is so screwed up...

I like my guns but this is where 'gun control' should be enforced.... forgiveness for this type of shooting should be a little more difficult from a punishment perspective...

Generally it is -- extra time for using a gun in the crime is the law in many/most states.

But as always, that's subject to any plea deals or the whims of a judge or jury.

Here's a video of Sammy speaking. Note that he's not vengeful towards the guy who shot him!

was watching on of those true crimes show and they were talking to an inmate named Manning same first name as well, now we know what he was doing before he became a wrestling coach! just kidding huskers!

I never want to see CT complain about people typing "wow" in a match thread ever again.
Okay - people are going to be very upset this is even mentioned, but don’t shoot the messenger. Chael pivoted directly from AJ talk to directly asking CP: “did Sammy Sasso get shot trying to buy drugs?” After nervous laughter from the FRL crew, CP said “I don’t think so”. Chael then said “I know your ’lie face’ and then played out a hypothetical botched drug deal in a humorous fashion. It was EXTREMELY awkward.

But if you remember, there was a wrestler on twitter (Joey Ward) who said the exact same thing right after the shooting and he got hammered for it on social media.

It’s not like I didn’t cite the exact minute on the FRL podcast that’s free to listen to where Chael goes off on his tangent. Anyone curious can hear it. In fact, here’s the transcript:

Did Sammy Sasso get shot buying drugs? On the spot.

Gosh, I don't think so.

Pivot.

All right, now I know your lie face. All right, we continue. We can continue with this little game of back and forth.

Yikes.

Yeah. Well, we'll switch gears here. Where do we want to go?

You know, since it has been, but even if you buy drugs from a guy, but don't you ever report, you know, hey, you remember me. I was here two weeks ago. What's up?

It's all good. I'm a couple bucks short. I'll get you next week.

I mean, isn't there like an honor out on the street anymore? Is that not how it is?

It's been so long for me, Chael. I just don't.

Maybe they didn't recognize him. He shows up with a slimmy, right? That's the disguise.

Maybe he's got a head down. They don't see the curly hair. He should have been able to say, Hey, it's me.

It's Sammy. You would think you would think they don't just turn to blasting.

I don't. I'd listen. I'm moving on.

Yeah, you were there.

So I wasn't there. I. Yeah, well, we'll go to NCAs”

It’s not there. Either it was there and got removed. Or you are doing a Jedi mind trick on us! 😀

I vaguely remember at the time the story was something along the lines of he we was in the alley way and was trying to run over a rat. Was that correct? Sorry but this makes way more sense.

Yes, there was some story about a rat at the time. That never made sense
