San Francisco is banning chewing tobacco from all Stadiums(OT)

There us a good reason to have players banned from using it: It is a very bad example for kids. Ask Tony Gwynn.
There is a different reason to have fans banned from using it: I really don't want to be forced to sit next to some redneck dickwad spitting tobaccy juice all over.

The reason why we keep slipping in nearly all measurable a to Asian countries is.... (Hint - It isn't due to stupid rules and regulations governing every aspect of our life).

All the "Nanny State" cities you cite are in California; a soon-to-be bankrupt (nanny) state that is losing its industrial base at alarming levels. Your analogies are very weak. I smoke cigars because they prevent bronchitis. You should try it next winter! This guy did...

2013 data
California per capital GDP $53,497 million real GDP +2.0% YoY
Pennsylvania per capita GDP $47,274 million +0.7% YoY

.. and the California economy has only continued to grow while PA circles the drain.

You are apparently unaware of the concentrated campaign to get kids not to use chewing tobacco. You are apparently unaware that this campaign is a big contoversy in MLB. You are apparently unaware that medical authorities such as the Mayo Clinic say it is more dangerous, especially to kids, than cigarettes.
But then, you are obviously unaware in general.

"An expert from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that, “Professional athletes in certain sports, including baseball . . . have traditionally had high levels of smokeless tobacco use. Athletes serve as role models for youth, and smokeless tobacco manufacturers have used advertising, images, and testimonials featuring athletes and sports to make smokeless tobacco products appear attractive to youth. Children and teens closely observe athletes’ actions, including their use of tobacco products, and are influenced by what they see. Adolescents tend to mimic the behaviors of those they look up to and identify with, including baseball players and other athletes.”

Kudos to SF for doing the right thing.

Meanwhile they are fine with alcohol and drunken fans. If they are going to go on 'principle' then they better be consistent. The 'it's for the kids' argument is a nice sentimental/ emotional tug at people but a slippery slope at times. Then again- they sell beer and make money on it. However, they don't sell tobacco products and make money on it. ;)

If chewing tobacco was sold at sporting events this wouldn't be an issue even in San Francisco. They can afford to lose business they don't have.

No. That's the Dodgers.

Always amazes me when I see some on this board take a heavy anti-CA position and reference our forthcoming financial demise. We have a bit of a surplus going, but hey, who's counting?

Oh really? The City of SF invented that? Try to stay on topic
Yep, Tesla ain't SF-based but, as you know, a lot of Silicon Valley's youthful workforce ride the 'grey' buses from SF to SV everyday. It and AirBnB are screwing with SF real estate/rental situations.

I know it's a disgusting habit but as someone who does chew this is probably going to piss a lot of Giants off who have to play half their games there. Some have spoken up in support of it(Bochy did and he chews too).

The penalty won't be fines it will be anyone(fans, players, umps, etc.) that is caught will be immediately removed from the stadium. Crazy. As silly as it sounds could hurt the Giants more than a little bit. Chewing is more than just a little part of the game and is a given routine for some ballyplayers.
Good. Should be banned everywhere. Bad habit and only bad people chew.

It may be a bad habit, but saying only bad people chew is unfair and inaccurate. One of the best men I know chews. He started as a young man, and has repeatedly tried to quit without success. Aside from this vice, he is a good father, worker, and friend.
