Scandal brewing in AnnArbor: Michigan Wolverines athletes selling team-issued shoes for $5,000 a pop

Now THIS is what gets me going in the morning! I want to see the wolverines humiliated for more than just their on-field results and misplaced hubris.
After seeing what the NCAA did to UNC for both the fake classes deal and the shoe scandal, I wouldn't expect much. What a clown show Emmert and crew have become.
And "Failure to Monitor" Big Ten institutions. Jim Delany should also be charged with second degree manslaughter in the death of the Maryland football player.
Well that escalated quickly.
Prediction: Michigan, forced to admit that this did actually happen, investigates and conveniently finds that all of the shoes were sold by walk-on kickers and long-snappers, who are immediately suspended for 3 games. As such, no real athletes will be missing for the season opener against Notre Dame.
At this point, why even have the NCAA? They make rules and don't enforce them. In fact, I don't even think half of the schools even care about their rules anymore. They don't enforce them so why not just let everyone do what they want?
scUM should merely give some shoes to a few non-athletes and hope a few sell them as well... then the NCAA would throw up their hands and shrug their shoulders*
UNC is off the hook entirely now. The NCAA isn't touching Michigan, that's for sure.

For what it’s worth, Marquette has already completed its investigation. By my understanding, it’s likely these are shoes were sold by former athletes (UM grads Jourdan Lewis and Derrick Walton posted and sold their shoes after leaving for example). In any event, anyone caught should be punished - it’s an incredibly stupid thing to do given they UM makes them sign a document saying they won’t sell them while enrolled and number each shoe.
Now Michigan has a road map to follow in their “investigation”. Soon Michigan will say “ditto” and be done with it.
I can see this from michigan athletic supporters:

Regardless of what Marquette found, I would just assume some current Michigan players sold their shoes. And honestly, why wouldn’t they? The NCAA has no teeth so why bother with their arbitrary rules?
Those guys needed some quality life coaching.
Pretty much what OSU was doing when they allowed players access to conveniently unlocked equipment rooms. Players described it as an open secret. This part of the story is rarely mentioned when #TattooGate comes up.

$5,000 for a pair of sneakers? Either someone has more money than they know what to do with or it's simply a slick way to launder money. In this case I'll go with the latter.

Going forward, maybe these 2 things need to happen:
(1) If Nike is going to put out a "limited edition" of shoes, the school needs to tell Nike "no." Either everyone, including the general public, has the ability to buy these shoes, or the school won't wear them as part of a special uniform. The primary reason these shoes are going for $4700 (!!) is because of their scarcity.
(2) Players don't get these shoes, their gold pants, etc until after graduation/they've left the program. All these goodies get held in an "escrow account" of sorts.
Going forward, maybe these 2 things need to happen:

Those look good, but if I'm Michigan, or any school besides North Carolina, I would rather not have Jordan as my logo/brand.
Just gonna give you guys something to look into for evidence. I'm leaning in the direction of some iminent suspensions, but you guys look for yourselves.

The Retro NRGs definitely look like they have a crossed out name on the box.... It almost looks like it says Hill... there are other boxes that have that same spot scratched out

I think players should be able to make money off things like this... not a popular opinion but seriously.... so many people making money off of them.
There is zero mention of LaVert Hill on twitter. Until now.

I sort of agree - especially when you consider what they do for their scholarship, and what Delaney and Ermmert do for their salaries.
