Schedules

Big BBall schedule should be secondary to the Big Ten Wrestling schedule!!!! Ever seen how many fans are at a BJC basketball game, very few, very FEW! WTF!!!
Didn't basketball 'Return to Rec Hall' a few years back to free up the BJC, albeit possibly for a Manheim Steamrollers' concert or monster trucks or something other than another PSU sport?

this is ridiculous!!! when the hell is our schedule coming out! PSU basketball sucks! mens and womens! Wrestling should be the priority sport! AHHHH!

No matter how much you don't like it bball pays a lot of the bills for PSU athletics. Plus, we are not talking about the PSU bball schedule, we are talking about the BIG bball schedule and the money from TV for bball outstrips the money from wrestling by a LOT.
You and I can wish that wasn't true but it is.

I thought someone, maybe Roar posted the history of the schedule release date last year.

I tried to search for it but failed.

That is why they don't give me the nuclear launch code.

If found, I wish it was a sticky.

Well what was your bottom line take-away after revisiting?

How much later are we this year in terms of the statistical norm?

Might this year's schedule release date be a result from additional thoughtful planning by B1G wrestling coaches to address the new true freshman participation rules?

The B1G, basketball, and BJC scheduling might not be entirely to blame.

On FRL last week they looked it up and said that PSU’s schedule came out on Sept 28 (or something close to that) last year.

Ever seen the number of fans at a basketball game vs wrestling matches at Purdue, Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota or any other Big Ten School not named PSU or Iowa?

We all love wrestling. We all would love it to be greater than other sports, but it does not carry mass appeal and most certainly not over BB. Except at PSU. So it is completely understandable that wrestling schedules have to wait for the BB schedules.

Also at Ohio State.

Tan Tom Palace has a capacity of 3700 fans -- less than 2/3 of capacity at Rec Hall and Pegula. There must be a reason they didn't build a bigger arena ...

Think of all the wasted room for tanning beds, robes and black shirts. Agree on the size for wrestling though vs bball.

Just to add additional info. The main reason this is happening is there are more and more wrestling matches on BTN, but they can't schedule those until after the BIG bball schedules are out.

I WANT MY WRESTLING SCHEDULE NOW!!!

There seems to have been a lot of speculation by wrestling media types that BTN telecasts of wrestling may suffer under the latest expansion of the conference. They are predicting more basketball and fewer Olympic sports overall. Hope it’s not true.

In 2018, the most recent data I could find, Womens Volleyball averaged 3,346 in Rec Hall.
In the 2021-22 season, Hockey averaged 5,976, 103.4% of capacity in Pegula.

Question: The hockey arena is named after a Pegula. There is a current professional woman's tennis player from NY state (in the quarterfinals of this year's US Open) named Pegula. Any chance they're related? (Forgive my ignorance of the person for whom the arena is named after)

100% chance the relationship is Daughter-Father.

Named after Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres and worth about 6.7 Billion, also PSU alum. Oh, and father of Daughter Jessic Pegula.

New York Post : Jessica Pegula rolls into US Open quarters as famous dad watches from distance.

Wow--very interesting. Glad to here it! I don't imagine the daughter played tennis for PSU! BTW, for those who don't know, there is a women's tennis and PSU wrestling connection. Jan Bortner was the PSU women's tennis coach, before being the PSU men's tennis coach. He later became asst AD in charge of wrestling and used to attend all of the NCAA wrestling tournaments (maybe still does--I saw him at one after he retired from the AD).

Jan Bortner was a guest speaker at the Williamsport Area Nittany Lion Booster club about 10+ years ago. He talked about the interviewing and the hiring of Cael. Jan said they secretly had to tour Cael around the wrestling facilities at 3 AM, so they wouldn't have Iowa State find out. Really nice guy.

I know Jan well. He's a very nice and humble guy. And, he had one heck of a forehand! Interesting anecdote about Cael's hiring.

It looks like it was around Sept 21st
