Scherzer throwing perfect game

Pirates are not going to make a play for Hamels. Phillies would want either Glasnow or Taillon in return, and Huntington has said those guys are not available. The other top prospect, Kingham, is down with TJ surgery, so he would not be in play at this time. I don't think the Pirates have another pitching prospect far enough along to make the Phillies interested, so long as they insist on getting a big time pitching prospect as part of the return.

Just so you know a top pitching prospect is just the "starting point " for Hamels-not the ending point. It will take multiple high level prospects to get one of the most durable and best pitchers in baseball who also happens to have a very cost friendly contract

Polanco or Bell would be good centerpieces. Polanco is starting to look like Dom Brown v2.0 though. The Phillies are pretty loaded in pitching prospects anyway.

Polanco could be had, maybe, since the Pirates seem to have a lot of outfield prospects, albeit a few years away. But they aren't going to trade Glasnow or Taillon. Glasnow in particular is thought to have a higher ceiling than Cole, possibly, and they already know that Cole will not be resignable. Huntington was pretty adamant in that interview, I thought. Bell's not going anywhere, since he will replace Pedro at first base when they dump him this winter.

Yeah, how dare he try to get on base. Let's hit him in the head.

That's even dumber than the rule that you can't bunt against a guy who has a no-hitter going.
Hey moron any fan but someone dumb enough to live in Pittsburgh knows you don't do that. It's just further proof that Pittsburgh is bush league in every way.

On our conversation from last night, I think you are right that they won't trade Bell. I'd bet you some beers you get Hamels. It's going to be Polanco+ and the Phillies will ship enough money that the Pirates will have the biggest bargain ace in baseball locked up. It will be Taillon I think as the other side.

If Taillon goes, I won't be happy about it. I'd rather take the money they will give Hamels and re-sign Cole, and then still have the two young guys.

That's a really tough call. I'm OK with Polanco and someone, but Taillon, not so much. Pitching is so unpredictable year to year, but works both ways I guess. Anyway, why does everyone think the Bucs are serious about this? I haven't heard anything to indicate that other than speculation.
