Over the past month, Flo has posted the school lists for the following 11 recruits (some are very tentative lists):

Braxton Brown
Andre Gonzales
Vinnie Zerban
Brandon Hoselton
Luka Wick
Evan Bates
Shayne Van Ness
Stevo Poulin
Trey Kibe
Cael Valencia
Nate Schon

Common schools for these 11 are:
9 -- Ohio State (all but Bates and Kibe)
6 -- NC State
3 -- Penn State (Van Ness, Poulin, Valencia), Okla State (Wick, Poulin, Valencia), Stanford, Cornell, Missouri, Michigan
2 -- Iowa (Valencia, Hoselton) plus a number of other schools

The main reason I created this thread was that it seemed that Ohio State was on every list that came out. That is close to the truth. From a recruit view point, this shows how attractive the program is in Columbus. From a school view point, I am not sure if this says anything about recruiting approach, focus, etc. Not clear to me if the school has expressed strong interest or if the recruits are merely saying they are interested. It is a pretty diverse group of recruits regarding rankings, so having Ohio State on 9 of the 11 lists is interesting.

Wow this is a pretty interesting list. Thanks for putting it together.
I don’t know details on all recruits and projected weights but a number of recruits could also be using a factor of starting (either right away or after a redshirt). And not every student athlete wants to greyshirt and then redshirt. Like looking at penn state from 74 and up (maybe include 65 as well), an athlete could be potentially wasting 2-3 years on the bench. Great info thanks for sharing

"Very tentative" indeed. Zerban listed the schools he's most in contact with. Valencia, Wick, and Hoselton (at least) listed 8+ schools. Also PSU was among Kibe's original finalists prior to the commit/decommit.

But in any case: Cael's recruiting philosophy is public -- he goes after very few guys, and goes after them hard. Ohio State's philosophy ... being selective doesn't win Recruiting National Championships.

Interesting that Wisconsin didn't make Wick's 8 schools.

Figueroa is supposedly still available. Facundo is off the market.

That brings up a bigger point: no good conclusions can be drawn from any snapshot in time, because recruits don't follow the same timeline.

... I'd put more stock in PSU being runner-up for Valencia's brothers.
Wow. In the alternate reality that Zahid came to PSU, and the actual PSU guys also came to PSU, Mark Hall and/or Cenzo would have spent years on the bench! Which invites the question of who were AA-caliber PSU studs that sat on the bench during the past decade. Cassar of course was an NC-caliber stud on the bench. Nick Nevills was AA-caliber. Mighty Mouse. Who were others?

I believe Matt Brown did for a year before Ruth and Q both moved up a weight to create a spot at 174.

Conaway's career:
2012 = shirt
2013 = R12 at 133
2014 = opens + a couple spot starts
2015 = 8th at 125
2016 = 6th at 133

Recruiting school lists are like the grocery lists of someone I know. :rolleyes: Never complete, and when all is said and done, there are usually a few surprises that don't quite seem to make sense.

I think you would have seen Zahid to 184 and Bo at 197 a lot sooner than his last year.

Alt History 2018 is fascinating. Mark Hall wouldve won 174. Bo wouldve won 197.

I think Zahid wins 184, though it's not a certainty. (Zahid beat Martin 7-5 in freestyle in Dec 2019.) Pinning Martin wouldve been unlikely.

If Max Dean is better than Martin a year after Bo majored and pinned Martin, I have confidence Zahid beats Martin the year Bo did major and pin him. Ohio St still ends up the best second best ever and Penn State breaks 150.

But I wonder if Anthony Valencia would've been at 165 and Vincenzo at a different school.

I love this kind of speculation. How about throwing SLee in there and Suriano didn’t transfer.

Lee FR.
Suriano SO.
Lee FR
Retherford SR
Nolf JR
Joseph SO
Hall SO
Valencia SO
Nickal JR
Nevills JR

not a bad team in 2018. 8 champs?
