I agree. The Wisconsin game is the hardest for me to predict, but with a new OC in a tough road opener, it’s hard to predict a W.

Pretty much agree with this but could be better and could be worse. If we can beat Wisconsin in the opener, we could go into Columbus undefeated with a real chance.

On the other hand, a bad loss at Wisconsin could lead to a let down home the next week, (Ball State), and the bottom could fall out with the only win Nova the first six games.

I just gave myself a headache.

I don't know how accurate some of the online depth chart services are, but Wisconsin reportedly has an all RS SR offensive line. WRs are all RS SRs also. I don't know if the QB is any good, but you could probably pull some random fan out of the upper deck and let them run the ball behind that line and WR corp. If Clifford was ever going to be the difference in a win, now would be the time.

I think Obliviax has it right at 9-3, but I will be watching that OSU QB situation very closely. We usually showup for OSU.

Assuming we win one toss up and lose one toss up, that's 10-2 (11-2 with NY6 Bowl victory).

Personally, I think this is the year we hit rock bottom on defense. This is the least talented defense of the Franklin era, the least talented front seven this century and Pry is still Pry. The offense will struggle early before righting the shape near mid-season but the schedule is the ultimate undoing. I expect a 2 and 4 record going into the break. The If we knock off Maryland, we have a shot at a bowl game. If we lose, it could get ugly down the stretch. I like our chances in the last four games and am going with 7 and 5. Maybe 8 and 4 if we get a few bounces.

tOSU just lost a probable started DE today. Not that I'm hoping for injury but its a part of the game !

Preseason coaches poll has us at #16

tOSU 5
Wisconsin 14
Indiana 18
Iowa 21
Michigan 23

Other notables are TA&M 6, Iowa State 7 Cincy 8

Im not seeing Maryland as a trap game this particular year but Villanova just might be- based on what Ive read on Lions Den those Hoosiers literally couldnt step up to get knocked down quicker gain if they were singing smashmouth at the bowling alley again.

Defense will be the key this year.

DTs remind me of '16. No studs, but perhaps a solid group to rotate with. PJ and Tangelo will set the tone for rotation.

DEs a question mark, but at least we are bigger here this season. Fisher and Tarburton are interesting prospects. Would like to see Beamon out here some.

LBs are probably our highest rated in years collectively. When is the last time we had two 5*s starting?

CB should be very good. At least the coaching moves sound so (Wilson to WR, Ellis to S, Dixon transfer in, TCF returned, JPJ in his second year, And King emerging).

S is going to depend on who steps up opposite Brisker. Only as strong as your weakest link.

Looking for Mulbah to break out at DT this year. That 600+ lbs squat at 19 is strong.

I feel so bad for them. Somehow, their 2 freshmen 5* DE's -- ranked #2 and #4 overall in the 2021 class -- will have to fill the gap. How terrible for them.

I'm going with 9-3.

Slam dunk: Nova, Illinois
Heavy favorite: Ball State, MSU, Rutgers
Favorite: Maryland, Michigan
Toss up: Auburn, Indiana, Iowa
Underdog: Wisconsin
Heavy underdog: Ohio State

I figure we'll take 2 of the 3 toss-ups. Probably the two home games (Auburn and IU).

I’ll also go 15-0 a with a national title. What’s the point of not being optimistic in the preseason?
Though if what I read earlier on another site about Adisa Isaac being injured is true, that makes me less optimistic. I have high expectations for him.

How is Indiana a toss up?

The way I set those categories, toss up = either +/- one score. I'd imagine we'd be favored against IU by about 5 or 6. Probably a similar favorite vs. Auburn. Perhaps a 3-5 point underdog vs. Iowa. In my view, that says that the teams are pretty close and the game could easily go either direction.

Again. As it stands right now. This all could change radically after week 1. PSU @ Wisconsin and IU @ Iowa will tell us a lot.

Ball State won the MAC last year so there’s no walk over either

Shocking…never would have guessed it coming from you (eye roll).

I put them in "heavy favorite", meaning I'm guessing we'll be favored by 14+.

I agree -- no gimme. It's not beyond the realm of feasible that we lose (as losing to Nova would be). They're probably closer to App State than Idaho. But if this team is what it should be based on talent, it's a game we win fairly comfortably. 38-17 type of game.

Good analysis. I just think PSU will be extra jacked up for this game. But we will see.

I agree -- or rather, we should be.

I'm not buying the IU hype this year. A lot of chatter about them possibly springing the upset and winning the Big Ten East. They're definitely the fad pick. I don't see it.

The X factor though is whether we come into that game unbeaten or reeling from a loss or two. We haven't rebounded very well from losses the past several seasons -- seems like we don't regroup mentally very quickly. Really no point in even prognosticating the IU game with any confidence until after the Wisconsin and Auburn games.

I have to FLAG you for two annoying reasons

1) you didn't provide a summary W vs. L prediction without a reader doing the maths themselves, and
2) you omitted per game designations as to which were home vs. away.

You're not alone...I see that other posters are unfamiliar with the @ character. 🤷‍♂️
