Serious question: would BOB have had a better record with this OL?

BOB is a damn fine coach. We would be a ten win team this year with BOB.

I knew losing him would hurt a lot because our admin suck.

I only wish Bill O'Brien could have coached the mess he created by recruiting ZERO offensive lineman. He will be viewed positively for history but unless you recruit 4 guys on both sides of the ball each year, this is what you get.

I think our offense would be better than it is now, but not what it was when he left. That being said our defense would be back to being terrible, causing about the same record give or take a win.

10 Wins? That is crazy. He had a better team in 2012 and went 8-4.
Also a better team in 2013 and went 7-5.

What makes anyone think that he could have won 10 games with this team, which
has far less experience than the two he coached.

Just curious how much of this is coaching.

It's all about coaching, authentic leadership and player development. Not only would he have gotten more production out of the OL, BOB would have helped Hackenburg develop more than he has under Franklin, imo.

He had 15 recruits per year. Give him a break. Sanctions really hurt recruiting OL. JOHNSON WAS IN THE BAG BEFORE SANCTIONS TOO.

OK, fair point. But O'Brien had little interest in recruiting and failed to recruit any meaningful players in the trenches.

Yes, but BOB stayed with the Patriots instead of locking up recruits. Remember when he rationalized that PSU was hiring a coach for the next 5+ years, not just for 2012?

Yes he had limited scholarships. He used them to get kids that could help immediately instead of planning for the future. He had no intent on staying at PSU long term.

Couldn't give a flaming $hit how "BOB" would do with the OL he left - primarily because he didn't even leave enough OL on roster such that Franklin couldn't even run "live scrimmages" in Spring and Fall practice last year (PSU had to convert 2 DL players that never saw the field to OL just to field a 2-Deep for gameday!) - so given that we didn't even have enough OL to practice and the one's that we had listed (several of them brought in by "BOB" and not very good), how precisely do you think the whiner would have done?

The OL he did bring (forget how many it was, I think it was 8 if I remember correctly) were either terrible or transferred such that his recruiting to the position (8 scholarships I believe, far from diminimus) had zero-impact and equated effectively to wasted scholarships. So you're idea is to hold Franklin accountable for "BOB's" failings in the area (e.g., developing quality OL depth) and not only give "BOB" a pass, but praise him for the classless way in which he left and used PSU for all he was worth??? Good stuff and telling - ridiculous perspective especially considering that Coach Franklin is our current coach and has done an incredible job of recruiting that should begin filling the "BOB-created" gaps in 2016.

We would have been as good as we could be had BOB been the OC. As HC, the record would have been similar, or worse, and we might not have had the recruiting that we have today. Going forward, it remains to be seen whether our new OC can help Hand develop an offensive line, and whether he can come up with a playbook that really utilizes the players that are available.

I think not having a short passing game this year really hurt the run game. BOB would have developed that better. I have to believe he would have worked with Hack to develop some touch on short throws. Hopefully Hack gets this at the next level.

NO, hell NO. I think that was the reason he left after the Wisky win. He knew what was coming :)

Yes, O'Brien would have had a better record with this squad. But he wouldn't have touched what Franklin is doing on the recruiting front. I'm still not sold on Franklin as a gameday coach, but great players will often make or break how a coach looks on Saturdays.

When, not if, Franklin gets fired,...some coach is going to inherit some talent....and hopefully know what to do with it.

Yea, "BOB" left the position in good shape and with lots of talent available to select from.... What a bunch of ridiculous, diametrically antithetical to reality, BS post which qualifies as nothing more than pure hyperbole "BOB propaganda" and demagoguery.

Which position? I tend to ignore most of your run- on diatribes

O'Brien might have gotten one more win, because this team should have beaten Northwestern. Maybe two more, if you assume he could have beaten Temple.

O'Brien was the reason this O-line sucks. O'Brien also showed that he was perfectly capable of failing to prepare for games (both big games and not-so-big games).

Couldn't give a rat's @ss as to what you ignore twit. The positions which were the biggest weakness with zero-depth and massive holes the last 2 years Zippy! You just finished making a post in this thread that said O'Brien would have put a much better O-Line on the field than Franklin - with what Mr. Vacuous, Gratuitous Claims - smoke & mirrors? Certainly wouldn't have been with any of the talent that your hero brought into the program.

Do you remember his disdain for defense?
First rule don't lose the game.
In addition to no OL where was his punter for field position?

I couldn't be farther from a troll....are you going to ban me? Franklin's shtick ends the year after next. Moorhead spares him one year...plus the buyout is reduced.
I actually agree with this. Franklin is in very little trouble right now, but only because his buyout is still very large. Franklin's salary is at least 50% more than O'Brien's, and at least 300% more than Paterno's. He had to know that he was signing up for a short leash when he negotiated that.

Really? O'Brien didn't sniff ten wins with much more talent-laiden Paterno-era aided rosters, but according to you, he would put up two more wins with his weakest roster (some of which was due to O'Brien's crap recruiting) that had a fraction of the talent of the roster O'Brien inherited for his first 2 years?!?! What a laughably stupid and revealing post as evidenced by it's ridiculousness relative to REALITY.

Don't you think it's a bit immature of a "supposed-adult" to be trolling a college football board, dork?

No, I like most of your posts. However, I think your quote about Franklin was very sPitt-ish.
