I know people are gonna say "Why bother listening to espn blah blah" but I usually enjoy listening to these two because of their focus on college football.

That being said, they just spent their WHOLE first segment railing on the committee for having Penn State at #12. They were saying how the committee must be messing with people and how PSU doesn't deserve to be anywhere near that ranking. They went on to blast their schedule "What's temple? 6-3? Congrats guys...great win". Talk about the Pitt loss and getting blasted by Michigan. They then name about 5-6 teams below PSU that they wouldn't pick PSU to beat (UNC, Utah, WVU, etc).

They then played the committee members interview last night on why they had them so high and when he got to the point about how much more improved they are they stopped the tape and exclaimed "IMPROVED?? What is he talking about??" This after claiming they have watched every PSU game. If you have actually watched them you KNOW they have improved every week (so I'm guessing they haven't watched $hit).

I find it interesting that they really don't have much of a chance to make it in the top 4, Washington is behind A&M, the cubs are on the verge of winning the world series with a game 7, the Vikings OC just up and quits, yet the biggest story is PSU at #12??

Nice to see we still have everyone's attention!

It actually is a big story - for college football.

I mean, what would they think we should be ranked if we finish 10-2? Because we are likely going to be favored in all games. As for our resume... there is only one team with a better win than what we had over OSU, and that is Bama (over aTm). Who exactly do they think should be ahead of us based on their current resume?

Personally, I do not believe that we are the 12th best team in the country, but that is not how the playoff committee ranks teams. They go almost elusively on resume to date.

Freeh is writing a report as we speak that in his opinion Penn State should be ranked much worse than 12.

I was interviewed by him. He told me that if I didn't agree that PSU shouldn't be ranked, he'd see that the Indians lose tonight. This morning, someone approached me on the rental car bus to the airport and asked me "kenneth, what is the frequency?"

I agree with this. Plus, if you've been watching at all, we clearly became a different team following halftime of the Minny game. And we've been getting better each week. Purdue set up as a perfect sleep walk game, and we sort of did thru the first half. But then scored 45 points in the second half!! I don't really care how good Purdue is or isn't, 62 points in a game and 45 in a half, especially considering the great potential for a let down following the OSU game was pretty darn good. We have an offense that seems to be getting better each week. A dynamic running back who is truly elite and can make a big play every time he touches the ball. An improving defense that is benefitting from having had to play so many people earlier in the year, especially at LB. And a good/really good special teams. 12th best team in the country? Ahh, not sure. But a good team that is playing better each week and beat the then #2 team in the country. Not too bad.

These guys don't know anymore than the drunk next to you at any given BW3 at 3:15 on Saturday afternoon. Might as well listen to that guy at the bar.

I like that the committee takes into account an improving team and i also think they considered players that were hurt that are now coming back. We weren't a top 12 team in September. But we might have been in October. 4-0 with two blowout wins, a win vs a 6-2 Minnesota team and a win vs then Number 2 Ohio State who everyone thinks still has a great chance at being in the playoff. I happen to think we could beat UNC, Utah and West Virginia.. Temple's tied for the division lead in the AAC. They sure gave a lot of love to Houston from that conference. Truth is that from 12-20, it's a muddled mess. All the teams have losses and flaws. We're just the hottest team from that group and have clearly the best win. Who behind us should clearly be ahead? That would be my question.

Why do people even listen to any knucklehead commentator in general? Was listening to Todd Heremann (sp?) ex Eagle OL I think (sorry not an Eagle fan), but he said the other day he watches Football games with sound down and listening to music. When asked why he said he gets so irritated listening to announcers as they have no clue what they're talking about.

These idiots at ESPN, Fox, etc are all the same. For instance, when Maddon brought in Chapman last night in the 7th inning up 5 runs, the announcers went crazy on Maddon saying they will burn him up for tomorrow... big advantage for Cleveland blah blah blah... Do you really think they know better than Joe Maddon LOL. I guarantee Chapmon can give at least 2 innings tonight with no loss of speed. Dear God, they used to do it all the time in the 70s letting relievers go 3 innings. Gossage used to do it and would throw gas all 3 innings.

That is all.

We are so in their heads. LOL.

i usually like russillo and kannell but wow. dont say we're not improved -- thats clearly shows they dont have a clue about our team. i dont think we're 12th either but wait until the season finishes out before blasting this team.

The same Houston team that lost to SMU? LOL.

Let the clowns at ESPN and elsewhere talk all they want. Then make certain our guys listen to their comments and continue to work their butts off to show everyone just how good they can be. We are in for a couple exciting years, I intend to enjoy them and not worry what some jerk at ESPN says.

The rumor of PSU's football demise has been greatly exaggerated.... Sticks a hole in their narrative and many DO NOT like that PSU is alive and well in college football.

I was thinking the same thing - Chapman threw like 20 pitches, that was all. Every one of those clowns blasted Maddon - I was like do you know if they don't win tonight it's over - what a bunch of drama queen know it alls.

They then name about 5-6 teams below PSU that they wouldn't pick PSU to beat (UNC, Utah, WVU, etc).

Wonder if they watched UNC get smacked to the ground at home to Va Tech 34-3? or WVU get beatdown by a team that lost to Western Michigan?

When the selection show gets to rug cutting time, the talking heads will use the expression ..."the full body of work". I'm not a big fan of that word grouping (especially when Mark May uses it), but just suppose that PSU runs the table - their "full body of work" will include a win over a highly regarded opponent in tO$U, a close loss to a "supposed rival" in sPitt, and a a$$ whooping from Jimmah and his scUM. The other wins just don't carry the impact needed to help the cause.

In my eyes, the biggest factor in where a team gets ranked is how they do in their BIG games in November. Since PSU's November opponents seem to have lost some luster, the only way that PSU will travel in the rankings is slightly downward. Everybody loves the most recent big game victor.

My bottom line here is that this team needs to just go out and play, continue to improve and maintain their newfound "status" - should have heard Pompeani on the KDKA 11:00 news last night when he had to show the graphic with PSU at 12 and WVU at 20.

These are the same "experts" that had ND, Oregon and Texas in the top 20. They know little other than the hype fed to them by the ESPN analysts. The first two months of the college season sort out the contenders from the pretenders. We are probably not yet a contender but we are certainly moving in that direction.

Further, how many of these clowns had Lamar Jackson winning the Heisman?

Same crap every year. Hype, hype, hype. Then the games begin and their predictions are proven wrong then they switch to hyping the emerging stories. Does anyone every go back to check their records?

I'm in the asset management business. I have to face my incorrect calls all the time. I'd love to be able to ignore the past and just talk to the day like these guys do. Alas that is not the real world.

Listening to any of these tits on a bull is a real waste of time Kannal has always carried a minuscule hard on for PSU... because that's all he's got.

And I hear talk radio guys explaining away bad games from big name teams all the time due to injuries to one or two key players. How about losing all of you linebackers to injury? How about losing half your defensive starters? Yet PSU is supposed to overcome that and still be impressive in their games and not lose any. We've been healthy on defense for what, two games? And in those two games we beat the #2 team in the nation and beat a team 62-24.

It doesn't matter what any of them say or think.......The victory is already there. Even if psu loses again this year. The fact that they achieved relevance again is huge considering how last year ended. Penn State is trending up and will return pretty much the whole team next year. That was the goal for this year. The number 12 ranking even if for a week is just a cherry on top.......mission accomplished . They will be ranked going into next year and it will more than likely be top 15.

I don't know you and don't care who you are. You, on the other hand, have taken the trouble to stalk my identity and my facebook page. You know very well what I am talking about. Take it further and you could be charged with harrassment.
Look idiot, I also don't know you or care who you are. I don't use facebook and have never looked you up. So whatever is going on with that, you can keep me out of it. I come here and to other PSU sites to talk about sports, not to stalk people.

I'll do us both a favor and put you on my ignore list. Have fun doing whatever it is you do.

Russilo rode SVP's coattails to this gig and to my knowledge only has this job because SVP is his pal. Dude lives the most typical loser man-child sports-'journalist' life - no wife, kids or real job to be honest. He's mostly an NBA/basketball guy anyway, so no surprise he's out of his element when it comes to NCAA football. Kanell isn't much better; he doesn't wear slim fitting hipster suits very well and talks like someone who went to FSU (which is to say 'not a voice made for radio'). I'm curious as to what Dan LeBatard has to say but it's tough tuning in the exact moment he actually talks about sports. When he's not s*cking his own d*ck he's doing skits with his Dad or that twit that co-hosts the show with him. ESPN Radio is garbage.

I don't know who those guys are. I will assume that they are not sophisticated enough to do the type of homework it would take to be able to make or understand a nuanced argument. PSU has the opportunity to have the type of season that most, myself included, thought improbable at best. Those guys - who cares?

Against my better judgement, I listened to these clowns for a brief time, so heard the whole segment where they went off on the committee & trashed PSU in the process. Have always thought Rusillo to be an arrogant asshole, & he lived up to that rep today. While he's entitled to his opinion, he proved his complete ignorance on PSU when he made a mockery of committee's comment about our improvement. How can that possibly be questioned? There's so many other teams ranked between #8 & #20 where ranking can be questioned, but they were all in on PSU to prove their point.

Consider LSU, ranked right behind PSU. No mention of question there, yet LSU's wins are vs: Jacksonviile St., Miss St, Ole Miss, Southern Miss & Missouri. That's an absolute joke of a resume vs PSU! Rusillo commented that PSU would have no chance vs the Sooners. They have beat no one & got smoked vs OSU! They expressed no issue with Wiscy at #8, but frankly (other than acknowledging their D is great), what have they done to earn that ranking? Badgers wins are against LSU, Akron, Ga State (23-17 game), Mich St, Iowa & Nebraska. 0-2 vs OSU & Michigan. You can't question PSU at #12 without having some concern with Wiscy at #8.
