So NOW what the He** does PSU do at 197!?!?

Just a thought. Wrestle Cassar for the Iowa dual and Rasheed for the Big Tens. If he beats Moore at the big tens, he won the wrestle off and deserves to wrestle nationals. If he doesn’t win, Cassar has a win over #1 for seeding purposes.
If Cassar doesn’t wrestle at big tens, he can’t wrestle nationals. The 10 we send to bigs are our 10, no substitutions.

I really feel for the two of them. I am afraid the one that does not get the nod may be off to another school. Two class act guys.
That is what I would be worried about also..Which one has the most time left to wrestle?

I may be wrong, and probably am, but I don’t think you can go to Nationals without wrestling BIGS, hence why that kid from Jersey had to go on the mat and default.

Edit, see others answered the same.

No thought there as that can't happen. We can't just enter whoever we want for NCAAs. They have to qualify and that happens at BIGs. In your scenario Cassar CANNOT wrestle at NCAAs.

Byers probably has to use the status on the PSU website.

Why that lists Cassar as a SO instead of RS JR ... who knows.

If Cassar is a RS Soph he may have been already granted a 6th year. Makes sense as he did miss 2 seasons with shoulder. That being the case he may stick around either way. Like Hammond and Law I will be a big fan unless against PSU if he does leave. GL Casheed.

Cassar did not enroll at PSU two years ago while rehabbing from his shoulder injury. The issue with Cassar is that even though he was not enrolled, his eligibility clock started when he initially enrolled at PSU as a true freshmen. Per NCAA rules, you have 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility. I believe you apply for a 6th year of eligibility when you have exhausted the five years, or the application occurs during the fifth year. Cassar would seem to be an excellent candidate for a 6th year, but we are dealing with the NCAA.

I believe Shak has said if he is not the starter he will transfer (make sense). OTOH, if he is the starter and Cassar sticks around there is no guarantee that Shak would be the starter next year. Incredible that they have two guys at the same weight class who are probably in the top five in the country and capable of winning nationals. Brutal decision for Cael.

To me the decision is pretty easy. If he's healthy, It's Shak. There's no doubt he's capable of many more team points and the word is he's routinely beating Cassar in practice.

Sucks for Cassar, but this stuff happens at elite programs in any sport.

Hats off to Cassar. Unbelievable win, but I think Sheed is just as good and he is going to pin guys in the first couple of rounds and Cassar will only major. Those bonus points will be huge.

Isn't Sheed an undersized 97 pounder?

Cael,Jake,Cody, and Casey see these guys everyday. I trust them to make what they feel is best for the team all the while understanding that both young men have battled through tough things and bought in completely. I see things in each guy that makes me think it should be his job. Shak has Ed Ruth type ability with that cradle and could be a 20 point plus type guy at the tournament if he wrestles like he has shown to be capable. Anthony has world level type quickness for a big guy and somewhat seems to just be realizing how great he can be and winning the whole thing is not out of his grasp. I think Cael is really struggling with this decision because he admires both of these guys so much. This is not even bringing Cutch in who Cael has called too important to the team not to be at road duals. First world problems, but the broken heart of either young man probably causes sleepless nights for the entire staff- these coaches spend so much time around these guys they grow to really love them. I will support the guy who goes and the guy who is left home.

I'm rather fond of the Shraken's tag-team idea. Let him pin everyone he can in the 1st, then let Cassar bring it home. That's allowed, right?

I know it has been discussed before, but is it impossible for one of them to bump up 20 pounds or so and be our HWT for a year while Nevills red shirts? Cassar would be undersized, but so quick...just hate to see either in something other than the blue and white :(

Nick Nevills is a junior, no need for anyone to bump up while Seth Nevills redshirts. If Nick was not back next year, given an offseason, no reason why Cassar could not bulk up to 220 pounds and be a Kasper type 285.

What does Hwt look like next year? Snyder gone, Stevenson coming, right? Any conventional wisdom about GS redshirting? I assume since he is entrring tourneys now he will compete next year. Also, is Nick’s brother (Seth, AJ is the one at Fresno, right) projected to heavy? I assume he will rs next year for Nick’s senior year, right?

What are Coon and Stoll class-wise? Does the weight clear out or others projected to step it up?

Lots of questions and assumptions.

Nevills redshirts? He redshirted 2014-15. Or did I misread and have the wrong Nevills? Either way, the transition from Nick to Seth is pretty clean as far as taking redshirts.

Snyder, Coon, Kasper, Hughes, Dhesi, and Butler are gone, as are a couple guys in the 10-15 range.

The top of 285 is up for grabs next year. Steveson immediately in the mix, as he's a huge upgrade from Streifel for the Gophers. Also back, besides Nevills, are Stoll, Hall, Hemida, Miller and White (all JR's).

It's setting up nicely for Steveson as the top dog, with only Jordan Wood as a guy even remotely close to him after next year. S. Nevills will be there too, but Steveson projects to be on another level.

Yes, I meant Seth Neville... sorry
