Some coach voted Iowa #1

I guess they just see the final score. In my view, we were clearly the better team with Clifford at QB. The defense didn't look elite at all. They will probably go 12-0 then get smoked by whoever wins the Big Ten East.
which won't be you

Isn’t that what they should base the votes on? Am I missing something? These aren’t power rankings. Wins and losses have to count for almost everything.

I’m not saying Iowa is better than (insert team in top ten), but Texas A&M and Oregon are the only teams with better wins than us.

I thought we were about to win by at least that much. Even with Roberson, I thought we were going to win by single digits. I thought we would eventually find a way to get another FG or a TD. It was frustrating. I don't think we have any chance against OSU, though. Iowa is a paper tiger
This paper tiger knocked your QB out of the game with a clean hit -that 's what happens when you take on a 6'5" 243 Lb all american LB and lose

Clifford was on pace to throw for about 500 yards. PSU wins by 21 if he stays in the game (and that assume Iowa makes some adjustments...if they had no answer for him....woof...big blowout)
The answer was named Jack Campbell 6'5" 243 junior LB and will be 1st team B1G Ten if not all American

Yes, in the Coaches Poll. That's why they call it the Coaches poll.....

I believe if Clifford does not get hurt and plays the whole game that PSU would have won by 2 TD's. And with the hostile crowd impacting the game in Iowa's favor at that.

And on a neutral field I believe PSU is a 2-3 TD better team.

But we will see if a team in the weaker B10 West can beat them, or if we'll have to wait until the B10 championship game to see them get stomped.

They don't vote

If the voter didn't watch the game to see that Iowa isn't really that good and they just look at the fact that Iowa just beat #4 and their stats on defense (although inflated) are really good, why wouldn't you vote them #1?

If Iowa isn’t really that good, wouldn’t PSU losing to them knock them out of the top 10-15?

If they would have lost straight up, that probably would have happened, but they lost with a backup QB.

Iowa at #2 is the best possible outcome for us. Keeps us in the top 10 for now. By the time Iowa loses, our loss to them will be forgotten. We control our own destiny from here
That loss could be soon….they have a history of losing to teams they shouldn’t.

Why does everyone assume that Iowa wouldn't/couldn't make adjustments at halftime if Clifford wasn't hurt. They got 4 interceptions because their defense was in the right position and are fast. Our lack of any form of running attack is what cost us the game.

They do at this point. The problem with Iowa is that their best records have always been mirages - they crumble when facing an opponent of a similar record later in the year.

1986 - #13 UCLA 45, #4 Iowa 28
2002 - #5 USC 38, #3 Iowa 17
2015 - #6 Stanfiord 45, #5 Iowa 15 (lost 17-14 to MSU, which lost 38-0 to Alabama in CFP)

It's hard to take Iowa seriously as a national title contender with that track record. I wasn't impressed with what I saw yesterday. They did get the W, but they needed a QB knockout to do it.

Right, that’s part of the team, correct? If Iowa loses their starting CB who leads the nation in INTs (which they did) and they lose, do they get to claim they should be ranked higher? Depth is a huge factor and has to be factored in. You don’t get to pick and choose.

Because even if they made adjustments, PSU went 37 minutes of play with 46 yards of offense. At the very least if we mustered a measly 100 more yards in those 37 minutes (they had 155 in one quarter mind you) that it would effect everything from time of possession to field position to likely more than the 3 points Roberson had (mind you Clifford had 17 in 17 minutes). To think they wouldn’t have won is highly unlikely I mean Iowa only won be 3 and had 23 points despite those offensive numbers for 2.5 quarters. How many do they score if we add another TD in the final 37 minutes, had the ball less, or weren’t in a position to pin us that much, also not take 8 penalties due to cadence issues…

Jeff Brohm and Pat Fitzgerald usually own Kirk Ferentz, but probably not this year. If Iowa loses either of those Ferentz should retire mid-season.

I wouldn’t ever sell Fitz short for a one game situation especially against a team that has no offense.
