Speaking of Duke....

Coach Smith vs Coach K:
Coach Smith was not only an innovating coach, whose game schematics caused the rules of the game to be changed in a huge way (shot clock), but he was also a tremendous person.

Beyond the normal sort of charity work that any coach does, and his military service (which Smith also had), I'm not aware of any similar stores from coach K.

Coach Williams vs Coach K:
As others have pointed, Dook has completely embraced the one and done model in a way that UNC has not (yes, UNC has the occasional one and done player, but Dook stocks their roster with them). This is counter to how I believe college athletics should operate. If you don't want to be in college, don't go to college; until the NBA changes their rules, go play overseas.
dumb comment. Roy has even admitted he's tried to get almost every one and one recruit duke has landed but has failed. He's developed some very good teams without them. But you just keep making stuff up.

OK. I've loved all 32 of your posts, BTW.

I am not a UNC "partisan"; I am a UNC alumnus, who also got into Dook. I do hate Dook (which any non-Dookie will tell you is the correct spelling), and hated it from the moment I visited their campus (aka "Rutgers South Campus").
You got into duke but went to UNC? You are either lying or have no common sense.

That does not mean that Roy wanted them as well as one-and-done.

Roy might have had a player in front of him, with experience, and Roy told him you have to EARN being a starter.

THAT would cause many a recruit to not go to a school/UNC like that.

It was for graduate school.

I did not care for Dook's program in my field (too much policy, not enough STEM).

My major professor at UNC is far more famous in the field than anyone at Dook and he actively recruited me to come work with him.

UNC also paid me to go to school, whereas, despite receiving my department's "most prestigious fellowship" at Dook, I would still have had to pay out of pocket.

Sounds like pretty good common sense to me.

Hate UNC people are = Hate Trump people!

LOL!!!!!

I don’t believe PSU3UNC is a liar. Going to UNC is not chopped liver typucally a top 25 university with sone excellent graduate schools.

The two schools despise one another. Great times living in Durham as a youngster. Great games that Duke fans celebrated, games we lost and cried. If you are from the area or have gone to school at either university, you understand why it’s the greatest rivalry in sports.

And at UNC you can take fake classes to keep your GPA up.:)

Stop making stuff up

https://www.zagsblog.com/2018/03/09/roy-williams-says-wishes-dukes-players/

Roy wants one and done players, just not a full roster of them.

K doesn't promise playing time. One and done players wait to see who leaves before committing to schools.

Once again Roy 'wishes' he had them but they have to EARN starting playing time.

Nice try junior.
Are you ok? That's the same at Duke or Kentucky. They don't promise playing time, you have to earn it. Duke has had one and done players not starting.

Ya'll are saying Roy doesn't want one and done players. YES HE DOES. I posted a dang link to quotes from ROY! He has failed to land as many as he would like.

Domination is fun. In all forms!

Oh i don't really think he was lying, I know UNC is a good school. Duke is clearly better, but there are many specific reasons to choose UNC over Duke even if you get into duke. I'm just giving him a hard time.

Very true, and 75% of the football team takes it, but they attend class. Big difference between a cake major and a fake major.

I can honselty say that some, but not many, did not go to class but they still played on Saturday's because the professor or T/A didn't mark them absent.

I was there.

I talked to my football-playing classmates.

I know.

The terms often used were: He's cool about it. We worked something out. He knows Joe will get upset so he hasn't mentioned to him. He said he'd cover for me. He's not going to say anything.

Comprende'??

No, junior.

YOU are wrong.

Your premise was that "Roy recruits one-and-done kids and he believes/encourages that scenario."

I said Roy makes you EARN playing time and promise's you nothing.

Swing and a miss junior. Strike two!!

Can someone call this clown out or am I alone here? You frichan use quotations to a quote I never stated. Look back up. How awful are you?

Here is my quote "Roy has even admitted he's tried to get almost every one and done recruit duke has landed but has failed. He's developed some very good teams without them. "

Everything I said was a fact, backed up by a link proving so.

Don't disagree Roy makes you earn playing time, so does K, so does Calipari, and none of them promise you playing time.

I provided a link proving myself 100% correct. GAUNTLET for you GLOV, provide a link stating that K or Calipari promise specific playing time to a player. I'll even help you out. The opposite happens with K and Wendell Carter, Carter thought he was going to be the only big but never got promised that, and Duke got Bagley to reclassify making Carter have to work even harder to earn his keep. It worked out great for both as they made each other better and both become lottery picks.

Here's a great K article from someone that knows the inner workings of duke.

https://takechargefoundation.org/playing-for-coach-k/

quote from article

"What distinguished Coach K from all the other coaches who tried to recruit me to their college programs was that he didn’t promise me a place in the starting lineup, and he didn’t dangle before me the potential spoils of victory. Instead, he promised me only one thing: that every day I would have the opportunity to earn playing time. Even before I had committed to Duke, that was his way of challenging me intellectually: “Are you mentally tough enough to accept that challenge?”

#1: You're not alone, it's just that you can't argue with stupid, and there's no point in trying because it'll only frustrate you.

Ha, Thank you. Despite being a PSU grad, I only linger occasionally on the message board, so I don't have a lay of the land down on who is who with regards to posters. I'm better informed now.

Oh stop.

Since when was our "Parks & Recreation" major characterized as a tough major??
But you can’t take fake classes to earn a degree in that major. And the beauty of it at UNC is the fake classes are available to everyone! You get a fake class! You get a fake class!

Except that all most no one does.

Fun fact: UNC, Dook and NCSU all have reciprocity agreements in which any enrolled students can take coursework (at the per credit rate of their home institution) at any of the three universities (I took classes at both NCSU and Dook while I was at UNC).

Far more Dook students take classes at UNC, than the reverse.

Wouldn't billionaires have MORE free time to spend on message boards?

I guess your logic skills are on par with what I would suspect from a Dook fan boy ;-)

Also, you assume that my goal in life was to become a billionaire. It was not. My goal was to have a career in a job that I loved in which I made enough money to not have to worry about money. Mission accomplished.

Please keep in mind that UCF's coach is a former Dook player and assistant. If this was some random team or someone from the UNC coaching tree, I guarantee that he wouldn't have been as gracious.

The only nice thing I will ever say about Coach K is that he had the proper response to Paterno's firing. Kudos to him for that. Otherwise, eff that guy.

"It was horrible, and I've respected coach Paterno my entire life and had a chance to get to know him really well in the last year of his life. I thought it was really not well done in handling the situation that—it's a difficult situation to encounter.

You had somebody who's given six decades of service to the university and done such an incredible job. Somehow, you have to let—something has to play out and respect the fact that you've gone through all these experiences for six decades. It doesn't just go out the window right at the end. I thought it was a real mistake by Penn State's leadership."
UNC, Kudos is correct. But eff the guy? Oh, and you keep spelling Duke wrong!

There's SO MUCH wrong about this post, but the most important thing that needs clarification is this - Duke campus is NOT Rutgers south! Not! Not! Not! And if you've been on West campus, which I assume you have, you know that.

Finally! Something I can support. My wife and I went to Europe for 3 weeks after she graduated with the money we didn't spend on Carolina (in addition to her GA).

I don't think Duke and Carolina despise one another at all. In fact, my personal experience is that there is more of a mutual respect than anyone wants to admit. If there's any hatred, it's NC State fans toward Carolina. And that's 100% due to jealousy.

Yep. And I'm living proof of that. And, may I add, I can't believe I actually agree with you!

Athletically, Duke and Carolina do despise one another. Academically there is tremendous respect and collaboration among the faculty and staff.

It would be cool if the professors from the two schools despised one another. I’d love some trash talking between academics.
