Saw several references to this, so thought it deserved its own thread.

Question (discussion) is; Which PSU wrestlers, based on observation so far this season, are most likely to be the recipient of some home-cooked stall calls tonight?

A teammate of my brother was reffing a PSU vs Iowa dual and he made some questionable calls. My brother asked him able the calls and the ref said he got Carvered.

Stylistically, I think Iowa will shout for it for all matches except for 141, 184, 285 because our guys at those weights are very offensive. (though let's be honest, they'll shout for it anyways)

Refs have not dinged RBY for hiding the arm (probably because there's no rule against it) so I'm not too worried there.

At 149, 157, 197 ... their guys aren't offensive either so I'm not super worried about that (though Lugo managed to get 3 against Verkleeren lol)

But at 125, 165, 174, if they outshoot us and we stay defensive, Iowa fans will be able to influence calls potentially but I'm sure Cael had that in mind.

Ha, I like it! Seriously, I've seen the refs fold under the pressure of big CHA matches. I know this won't be popular, but I like Rivera there, as my impression after several years of watching being that he's unaffected by the crowd.

I just hope it goes both ways... pushing people can be stalling if not taking any shots. Riding will be interesting as well..

Well according to HR, all Starocci does is stall, so my money is on him. For some reason, they hate the kid.
not that hard to figure out. he wrestles for psu and kept a beloved team leader from winning his long sought title. it's a natural fan emotion.

I’m picking both Ayala and Murin to prevail by 1 pt on stall calls. Hope not but I see the refs being crowd influenced.

He may not be affected by the crowd but his I'm not so sure about his mental acuity.

As far as stalling
- dean
- Beau
- brady

I would say C* but I don't think Kemerer backup will have a chance.

Hilde but he'll have Yarra on his back in the 1st

I’d say Beau but Murin doesn’t exactly bring the action himself. Therefore I’ll say 157 and 165. Brady will need to take some shots on Bull or the crowd will get him dinged for at least 1 point.

It's all projection. What they really hate without coming out and saying it directly; they hate their team is dominated by 5th,6th 7th+ year seniors, and we have 4 national champs and a team dominated by underclassmen.

What they really hate about Carter is he is a Freshman!!!!

I think 165 might be near the top. Berge doesn't shoot a lot, and Marinelli is constantly moving forward, which could make the pressure to call stalling all the more difficult to resist.
If Berge doesn’t shoot and keeps backing towards the edge of the mat then he deserves to be dinged for stalling if AM is forcing the action. I would say the same for any wrestler not being aggressive. I like watching Offensive wrestling.

Nope. I’ll speak for other Iowa fans when I say we like our 5th, 6th and 7yr seniors. Find another angle to shit talk Iowa fans, cuz this dog ain’t biting.

Also, two of your champs are upperclassman, so weird flex brah.

Well hopefully most of the cries happen when we’re up halfway through the third.

In the body of the match, in order Brady, Beau (Murin loves handfighting that he has no chance of scoring off of), Drew on top assuming he gets there, Carter. Nick, RBY, Brooks and Dean would be nonsense. Kerk, only if Cass gets his arm behind his back. 157 they’ll have no room to talk.

But let’s be absolutely clear, simply hand-fighting and pushing forward while holding your hips back like ya got a load in your drawers is not “pushing the action”. It is an act to make it look like you’re working without taking any risk. More than one Hawkeye has it down to perfection. Up
to PSU guys to create legitimate action in those cases.

Well, you know this was going to be FFY.

Stay in the center of the mat and look to score and I’ll never yell for stalling. I don’t give a damn which team he wrestles for. I don’t know why any one would find that objectionable, unless they’re trying to be a prick?

He beat grandpa. He also isn't the better wrestler he was just better prepared for the NCAAs, by a guy who can not coach.
By the time Carter wins his 5th title HR will implode with dismissive logic that goes what's the big deal, winning 4 is what's important.

What many Iowa fans call stalling is Iowa hand fights, leans forward stretching, reaching towards a knee and takes a partial penetration step forward.
If Marinelli actually initiates offensive attacks while pushing forward, I will admit Berge was stalling. That probably isn't exactly how things will play out though.

-10 points for the use of brah. It’s not the 1980’s and there are no beaches in Iowa.
Also an upperclassmen and a senior are different things. They are even two different words. We have one champion who does not have any eligibility left after this year.

Anyone in blue will be subject to stalling. Carter will get called for stalling for walking slowly to mat.

First off, I urge you not to tell me what most or many of us Iowa fans think. You’re just going off of a stereotype and it makes you look like a one dimensional thinker. Although, Idk how more stalling calls is a bad thing. Like I said before, I like offensive wrestling.

Back to your hypothetical posted in your message. If AM is forcing the action, taking half shots, and BB was backing up while he’s doing that….that would obviously be stalling. In this scenario BB would be avoiding the offensive wrestler.

When stalling isn’t called appropriately it slows down a match and lets the inferior wrestler hang around. Often times, the stalling frustrates the offensive wrestler and he ends up forcing a bad shot and getting countered. I don’t mind counter wrestling, but counter wrestling can’t be your only offense. Iowa definitely has guys on their team that are guilty of this too.

After the match is over I’ll come back and point out where I believe stalling should have been called. I think we will agree more than we won’t.

It’s not a playground game of King of the Mountain. The goal is not supposed to be keeping your ass facing the center and keeping your opponent away from it, it is to score TDs.

This gets right to the root of a fundamental difference between mindsets of wrestlers and fans alike — the philosophy of going after points vs. working for a stall call. “Looking” to score is much different than actually going for it.

He never used the word “think”, even though you scolded him for it.

My experience this week with Iowa fans is that they have poor reading comprehension.

Nick Lee was a senior, he’s now a super senior.

I said brah because I thought it was a dumb ass comment I was responding to and wanted to sound dumb. So you can take points away all you want, because much like, who’s line is it anyway, the points don’t matter.

Also, there are several beaches in Iowa. They surround lakes….so.
