Stalling at CHA tonight (PSU vs Iowa)

First off, I urge you not to tell me what most or many of us Iowa fans think. You’re just going off of a stereotype and it makes you look like a one dimensional thinker. Although, Idk how more stalling calls is a bad thing. Like I said before, I like offensive wrestling.

Back to your hypothetical posted in your message. If AM is forcing the action, taking half shots, and BB was backing up while he’s doing that….that would obviously be stalling. In this scenario BB would be avoiding the offensive wrestler.

When stalling isn’t called appropriately it slows down a match and lets the inferior wrestler hang around. Often times, the stalling frustrates the offensive wrestler and he ends up forcing a bad shot and getting countered. I don’t mind counter wrestling, but counter wrestling can’t be your only offense. Iowa definitely has guys on their team that are guilty of this too.

After the match is over I’ll come back and point out where I believe stalling should have been called. I think we will agree more than we won’t.
Are your fingers sore? If you can't get your thought across in 140 characters maybe rethink entery into the thunderdome.

Nick Lee was a senior, he’s now a super senior.

I said brah because I thought it was a dumb ass comment I was responding to and wanted to sound dumb. So you can take points away all you want, because much like, who’s line is it anyway, the points don’t matter.

Also, there are several beaches in Iowa. They surround lakes….so.
Nick Lee is in his 5th year.

Agreed that he is super.

It’s not a playground game of King of the Mountain. The goal is not supposed to be keeping your ass facing the center, it is to score TDs.

This gets right to the root of a fundamental difference between mindsets of wrestlers and fans alike — the philosophy of going after points vs. working for a stall call. “Looking” to score is much different than actually going for it.
I wrestled for 15 yrs and ended my career at a decently respectable level, not world class but respectable. I know what the goal of wrestling is. I never once thought to myself I’m going to get a stall called on my opponents, but you can sure as hell feel them avoiding you.

I myself have been hit for stalling, and I deserved every damn one of them. In today’s wrestling most stalls are called because someone is trying to avoid a certain position. So they back up and reset, but if they kept losing the hand fight or positional battle and are allowed to keep resetting its stalling.

If Berge doesn’t shoot and keeps backing towards the edge of the mat then he deserves to be dinged for stalling if AM is forcing the action. I would say the same for any wrestler not being aggressive. I like watching Offensive wrestling.
Real stalling should get called, no matter which team does it. My concern is that just pushing forward without shooting can be stalling (or at least a way to artificially get a stalling call). Coon from Michigan was good at that (until he was good enough he didn't have to do that anymore). If Marinelli is shooting a good bit, and if Berge backs off, then stalling would be indicated. But if the shots are equal and it's just pushing, that's not stalling.

This is Twitter now? Didn’t know we had to be succinct over here. Is that because attention spans are so small at BWI? I think that’s less than 140 characters, then again if it’s not I’m sure you’re not reading this far down anyway.

We will see a few times tonight where Hawks will be just looking to bull/push guys out of the circle just to draw stall calls because they get them at Carver. Won’t matter that they aren’t looking to score or our guys will trying to circle around to keep action going.

If you have to tell us how long you wrestled and at what level....you lost.

It’s a rule of thumb; don’t write more than you can intelligently read. (I’m referring to your “don’t tell me what Iowa fans think” rant; cause he didn’t.)

I was responding to Slush’s message saying there was a difference between fans and wrestler’s. Essentially I agreed with him. Did he lose too? Did you not understand that? I might have to break your 140 character rule to explain better…

Gotcha McPat, but after a careful re-read he used the words what many Iowa fans think. Isn’t that interesting? Almost as interesting as Iowa not having a an opponent to wrestle on Sunday.

How about this. Every time the Iowa crowd can be heard yelling “stalling” tonight, you come over here and post about what they are seeing so we can learn more about it?

No - he said “call”. You can hear Iowa fans call stalling. A lot. It’s a witness thing. Not a what they think thing.

So you’re the angrier version of msu158.

What many Iowa fans call stalling is Iowa hand fights, leans forward stretching, reaching towards a knee and takes a partial penetration step forward.
If Marinelli actually initiates offensive attacks while pushing forward, I will admit Berge was stalling. That probably isn't exactly how things will play out though.
Hey Hawk1986 - this is your third chance to read nitlion6’s post and see how the word “think” doesn’t appear in it.

I have attended enough wrestling events to be aware of what many Iowa fans think stalling is. My description was accurate. It may not be what you define as stalling, but it is certainly what many do. For that matter, many fans across the spectrum would be screaming stalling in those situations.
I will attempt to improve my linear thinking, or one dimensional. Whichever, either way I should see improvement.
I will be intrigued by what you have to offer, and am sincerely looking forward to the conversation (through written board messaging).

Now your getting it. Well get you straightened out
I was taking wrestling, I’m never mad when I’m doing that. Even when I gotta respond to some of the ridiculous comments over here. Most of the time I’m more than happy, I’m outright laughing.

I’m looking forward to your posts each time the Iowa crowd yells stalling. Remember, though, 140 characters or less.

Hopefully the volume of posts you make won’t crash the site.
I’ll be a tad busy to come over every time, we do say it probably to often.

I will be available to come buy and discuss it afterwards. I’m always happy to educate : )!

Lehigh fans call for stalling and they are certainly not known for super offensive wrestling. They would yell stalling on Nolf............

Lehigh fans call for stalling on the other guy even as Lehigh guys fall backwards off the raised mat.

Nope. I’ll speak for other Iowa fans when I say we like our 5th, 6th and 7yr seniors. Find another angle to shit talk Iowa fans, cuz this dog ain’t biting.

Also, two of your champs are upperclassman, so weird flex brah.
Actually, based on eligibility our 4 champs last year where a junior, a soph, and 2 freshman.

Ha, I like it! Seriously, I've seen the refs fold under the pressure of big CHA matches. I know this won't be popular, but I like Rivera there, as my impression after several years of watching being that he's unaffected by the crowd.

Mad respect for you Roar. However, Rivera is an ass.

So if A wrestler digs an under hook, grabs a wrist down and pushes B wrestler has to not get pushed back or gets a stall call even though A wrestler does nothing else with that tie up. Granted wrestler B cannot just back straight back and out but we’ve all seen even when they try to circle back wrestler A just adjusts to do nothing but push.
