Starocci and Bartlett have not been very impressive so far and where.........................

Starocci will be fine. Kerk is injured. His father said he may be ready by B1Gs.
Howard I assume is still recovering from his offseason surgery so I ha e have no idea if/when he’ll wrestle.
Bartlett has looked good, not sure what you mean here?

Starocci so far has been less than I expected on his feet, but has looked tough on top. He may need to figure some stuff out, but it's three matches into his RS freshman season.

Bartlett looks fine; he just doesn't look at all like a 149 pounder.

I'll say it again, Something looks different with Starocci. He looks like a shell of the guy that beat Marsteller and Bullard in the NLWC events. Looks smaller, weaker and slower. Maybe he has been sick or hurt?

Starocci looked fine against a tough Krattinger. He’ll be fine. Bartlett hasn’t lost yet, Kerk had surgery.

Only mystery is RH, but he just told us to relax
Someone with Starocci's projected talent should have at the very least been in position to push for a major against Krattiger, not rely on a 3rd period rideout. For reference, here's Kemerer against him last year. Before some pose a huge jump from Krattiger, he's already lost to Labriola and Romero by the same margins as he did last year.

He's been underwhelming. No way around it. This version will not be competitive with Kemerer. I still think he has more to give, so we'll see if he rounds into form. I know the training situation hasn't been ideal. There isn't a lot of time though.

I haven't seen this posed, but is it possible scratch 174 with a one hour weigh in is really tough for him? Didn't he wrestle 182 as a senior? I know he probably wasn't cutting a ton of weight that year.

Yes, but he was one of those guys who went up an extra weight for the challenge. He wrestled 160 as a JR.

He looked small to me. I wanna say he wrestled up as a senior but I may be thinking of someone else.

Romero beat him 9-5 and everyone has been raving about Romero.

And Romero hasn’t been shut down recently for weeks like CS’s whole team.

I’m not close to the program and most things are hush hush. Is it possible that since we have a very limited amount of matches this year the coaches are asking for wrestlers to work on different situations during the matches? Like getting in a hole and battling back. Or riding out your opponent to gut out a win in the 3rd period. Let’s face it, you won’t run away with every match and sometimes you have to show some grit to win. All a learning process along the way.

No one’s getting in a hole on purpose. I just think they’re behind a bit having to stop due to Covid and need reps. They already look much better than a few days ago

Bad example since CStar was in a 10-0 hole. But I think they preach adversity and overcoming obstacles, working through situations. Q as an example...that one year he took some lumps along the way but at the end he overcame his obstacles.

That's gotta be it Cael tells them they can't start going hard until after they're down a few or it's the 3rd.But don't post that your giving away his secrets

I think you are on to something. Nick and Aaron would otherwise be getting 1st period TFs. ;-/

They (the coaches) teach the wrestlers that this sport is about dominating their opponent, in other words "imposing your will". Q had a bum wing the year he lost 4 bouts in January/February before his national championship run.

I had a similar thought. Perhaps he's had C-19 or some other ailment recently and is battling fatigue, oxygen levels, etc. I sincerely hope not. Just want him to be healthy and able to perform at his best. While he hasn't looked like the wrecking ball I hoped for (yet), the season and his college career are young and there's no reason not to believe the sky is still the limit for CStar.

I don’t disagree. You are closer than most. But not all matches are won on imposing your will. It’s a war and sometimes crap happens. Work through it.

Starocci looks tough on top, struggling from neutral. He is not setting up his shots, has not taken angles or changed level.

Bartlett, people need to keep in mind he is a true freshmen and has not had the open tournaments to get a bunch of matches to build off.

Its a weird year, young guys have started the season being thrown into the deep end, they did not have early season cupcakes. We also do not know the impact of a disrupted practice schedule is having or if anyone was actually sick and missed extended time.

For some of the young guys, probably a big adjustment mentally from wrestling unattached to actually being the guy and wearing the PSU singlet.

Eventually they will be fine.

I agree. the team is young. They have fewer opportunities and matches and everyone is that much more important... They are fun to watch and will continue to develop every week... they will all continue to improve... that's gonna be fun to see...

Bartlett has looked solid at 141. He is also shorter than the guys he has wrestled. Going to 149 now would bring even more ?? to the length question. We all saw Mark Hall.....who I think we would all agree is the more talented wrestler....lose a match where length and not skill was the problem. I want to see Bartlett wrestle as much as anyone but asking a true freshman to move up to 149 when he wrestled 138 as a Sr. in high school is not fair to him. It will work out....... Relax :)

Starocci losing 10-9 to Washington was his Subjeck match.
So maybe only beating Krattiger 5-3 is when Cenzo only beat Gunther 7-4. (half kidding)

Carter didn't forget how to wrestle guys. Maybe he's sick, hurt, thrown off by COVID shutdown, is overthinking finally becoming a PSU wrestler. It's obvious he isn't the same form as last year right now. We won't know the reason, just let Cael and crew take care of it like they do best.

Put it this way. If Carter starts the turnaround at Big Tens, he is going to be that landmine people are nervously watching out for during the seeding show. Remember how Iowa fans reacted to Mekhi Lewis getting an 8 seed because of an early season loss to Connor Flynn of Missouri?

Putting your team in a tough situation to challenge and measure their grit worked for that Paterno guy.

This may be why so many folks want to see BB at 149. It counts but it doesnt count.

To the staff and wrestlers....it clearly counts.

Doesn't count toward eligibility, but it definitely counts to all the wrestlers and staffs.

BB has nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking a shot at 49.

The one angle on Cael’s quote that I don’t recall seeing is that it was a motivator to the guys that are true 149s to step up and seize the spot, or he’ll not rule out Bartlett taking it.

It’s all a process people. Learning to travel, continue to work on school assignments on planes and in buses. Making scratch weight and staying hydrated . You’re talking about freshmen on their 1st road trip. Relax. We should have our entire team before Big10s. Everything is going well. We need to stay healthy and get those who are not prepared to compete. Looking great now is not important. Improving every day and learning is important right now.
